1. Opening and explanation
Since its appearance fifty years ago, the
concept of ESP has known continuous
evolutions and refinements narrowing
down in perspective at times and widening
at others.What comes in the following is a
review of the main ESP definitions to
which most reference has been made in
the last three decades.
2. - Hutchinson and Waters
(1987)
ESP is an approach not a product
- ESP is not restricted to the teaching of
specialised varieties.
- It is not related to a particular methodology
nor does it consist of particular materials.
- ESP courses have not to be based on the
surface features of the language but rather on
the underlying competence
4. LEARNING OBJECTIVES
Students can imitate the teacher's words regarding expressions of
asking and providing information about describing people in English
correctly
Students can distinguish how to ask and provide information about a
person's physical appearance and character in English correctly
Students can compose a short and simple written descriptive text
about people
Through Discovery learning, students are able to take action to ask for
and provide information about the description of the physical
appearance and character of a person in the form of written or spoken
text (dialogue) about people by paying attention to social functions,
text structure, and linguistic elements.
6. Descriptive Text is a text which says what a person or a thing
is like. Its purpose is to DESCRIBE and reveal a particular
