The following presentation is based on Information Communication Technology/Computer Application Technology topic, system technologies that focuses on hardware, software, input and output devices, computing processes, storage devices and additional related items.
3. WHAT IS INFORMATION &
COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY
• It is also referred to as ICT, a much simpler manner of saying it
without tiring yourself out.
• A general term of its description is that it is a…technological tool that
is needed for information processing within electronic devices as to
process, store and retrieve said information (Alfarö, 2017)
• At a schooling level however, ICT is referred to as Computer
Applications Technology (CAT)
• Today we well cover SYSTEM TECHNOLOGIES
5. HARDWARE AND SOFTWARE
• SOFTWARE are simpler regarded as programs on a computer which
perform a specific task or provide a graphical user interface (GUI).
• A GUI is a visual representation of a software that allows the user to
interact and communicate with their electronic device through
buttons, icons and much more.
• It is important to note that there
are 2 types of Software:
6. TYPES OF SOFTWARE
SYSTEM SOFTWARE
• Involves the usage of
operating systems such as
Microsoft Windows, Linux and
Android.
• These assist in managing
computer resources
(meryy21, 2015), as well as
run computer programs.
APPLICATION SOFTWARE
• Programs that are provided to
assist with a specific task
(meryy21, 2015).
• Examples of these include all
Microsoft suite programs,
calculator, Google chrome
and many more.
7. HARDWARE
• Hardware devices refer to the internal and external
physical components within a computer.
• INTERNAL components: Motherboard, Central Processing
Unit (CPU), Solid-State Drive (SSD), Graphics Processing
Unit (GPU) & Optical Drive.
• EXTERNAL components: Mouse, Monitor, Keyboard,
Printer, Universal Serial Bus (USB).
8. COMPUTING PROCESS
• INPUT – are used to insert data into a device.
• PROCESS – where data is processed into meaningful data
(information).
• OUTPUT – where the inserted data/information is displayed.
• STORAGE – where processed data is saved either as permanent
(SSD) or temporary memory (RAM).
9. INPUT DEVICES
• Keyboard – allows you to insert text,
numbers and symbols into a
computer
• Mouse – consists of 2 to 4 buttons
and a track ball under which allows
you to click on icons displayed.
• Joystick – usually used for gaming
consoles/devices
• Web Camera – intakes what is
occurring and displays it on an
output device
10. OUTPUT DEVICES
• Monitor – displays inserted data
from a mouse or keyboard on a
desktop/laptop
• Printer – allows for printed out
documents from an electronic to a
physical format
• Speaker – allows for an output of
sound/audio from an attached
device
• Headphones – is a combination of
speakers and a microphone
(alltimegeek, 2014)
11. STORAGE DEVICES
• It is used to store data and information
• We have Primary & Secondary storing devices
• Primary Devices being your main storage device which is used
by applications on your device such as your Random Access
Memory & Read Only Memory
• Secondary Devices are not directly connected to the device
through the memory bus, but rather are inserted through an
input slot such as SSDs & DVDs
Data Storage
Sizes
12. DIFFERENCE BETWEEN RAM & ROM
• Random Access Memory is
regarded as short-term
memory and quite volatile as
if your computer turns off
without you saving, your
work will be lost.
• There are 2 types of RAM
being:
Read Only Memory is
permanent memory that is
non-volatile but has one
major difference from RAM,
as it cannot be changed in
regards to its formatting. It
can only be READ.
There are 5 Types of ROM
being:
13. MOST COMMON SECONDARY STORAGE
DEVICES
• Hard-Disk (HDD) – retrieves data
using magnetic storage
• Solid-State Drive (SSD) – a storage
device which can hold up to 4
terabytes of data
• Universal Serial Bus (USB) – a small
device which can be inserted to
save files and transfer items
between digital devices
• Digital Optical Disk (DVD) – a disk
shaped medium used to store
visual/audio data, most commonly
