- Think first about the different approaches to teaching and Learning…We all have our preferred style Didactic Teaching Where the focuses on transferring knowledge efficiently from teacher to student- As the teacher you would: Explains how something works or how it’s done Provide facts and explain how to learn them Provide opportunities to practise new skills and knowledge (mouse click) ITA Resources MOAC for MOS or MTA ITA Lesson plans (mouse click) Action Based Using Projects is an alternative to rote memorization, teacher-led classrooms. The use of activities and projects provide the opportunity for students to work on real challenges, using the knowledge and skills they have been developing and implement solutions – learning by doing There are numerous benefits to the implementation of these strategies in the classroom, including a greater depth of understanding of concepts, broader knowledge base, can increase retention of content and improve students confidence Quizzes help students maintain focus and develop essential problem-solving skills They can be a motivational tool for students. Students will naturally be motivated to study more and pay attention during class if they know that later they will be tested on the material in front of their peers. Students build on prior knowledge and reinforce concepts which may have been unclear to them. Quizzes provide an excellent way to reinforce material that needs to be covered before the upcoming exam. (mouse click) ITA Resources Within the ITA Lesson Plans are wonderful projects and quizzes (mouse click) Self-directed Self-directed learning is something that quite often needs to be taught to students, all individuals have the capacity to engage in and develop self-directed learning skills. Students can (and should) take greater control over their learning. One of the fundamental principles of the model is that every student is different and not all students have the same capacity to self-direct their own learning. The ability to self-direct may vary greatly with different types of activities. Therefore teachers need to scaffold learning by making learning 'visible.' They model learning strategies and work with students so that they develop the ability to use them on their own. Some student may prefer to engage through online learning while others may prefer a more paper based model. They may also be used with lesson plans. MTA Student Study Guides (mouse click) Blended Teaching and Learning The recourses can be blended in many ways and for many reasons Within the IT Academy there are resources not only to support the different styles, but also the opportunity to blend the styles to enable students to fit all the pieces together in a holistic manner

- …the Flipped Classroom Flipped classroom is a reversed teaching model that delivers instruction at home through Online learning and moves ‘homework’ to the classroom. Moving lectures or instruction outside of the classroom allows teacher to spend more 1:1 time with each student. Students have the opportunity to ask questions and work through activities/projects with the guidance of the teacher and the support of their peers – creating a collaborative learning environment. In flip teaching, the student first studies the topic by themselves. In the classroom, the student then tries to apply the knowledge by doing practical work. The role of the teacher is then to assist the student when they become stuck, rather than to impart the initial lesson. This allows time inside the class to be used for additional learning-based activities, including use of differentiated instruction and project-based learning.
