  2. 2. 21st Century Skills for Academic Learners As known (OECD) the necessary and effective skills for the academic learner, in the context of academic requirements are: • Critical Thinking & Problem Solving • Communication & Collaboration • Information, Media & Technology Literacy • Self-Direction • Learning to learn
  3. 3. 21st Century Skills for Academic Learners and Up2U approach • If these skills will be defined as a main goal and as the center of the student's learning process, by using the appropriate teaching models, the learner may improve these skills and this process will even encourage the development of necessary digital competences for better and successful functioning in the technological world of the 21st century • To achieve this teachers should cultivate the appropriate digital pedagogical approaches and skills

Up2U approach & Teachers lack of skills • First training sessions in Greek pilot schools shows: • Teachers lack of knowledge and skills on cultivating students’ digital skills • Teachers ignorance on appropriate digital tools (e.g. web 2.0 tools) • Lack of targeted national training programs • Private initiatives and European programs bridge the gap at national level (e.g. eTwinning)
