The SBI Act does not permit the government stake to dip below 55% in the bank but there is no such restriction on the subsidiaries. SBI can dilute and become a minority shareholder in subsidiaries when they need to raise capital, said Jagannadham Thunuguntla, head of Delhi-based SMC Capital.
