4. The Great Trek
- This was a movement into the inland of South Africa
- It was as a result of Dutch distain towards British
authorities in the Cape
5. The Anglo-Boer War 1899-1902
> 1867, diamonds and gold were discovered in the interior
> This brought an influx of outlanders (foreigners)
> PM of the Cape Colony, Cecil Rhodes
- Attempted to ignite a rebellion of outlanders so that Britain can take over the whole of South Africa
- This failed, as a result the Anglo-Boer War erupted
- War between the British and Dutch
6. this war first started as a guerilla warfare
> (Guerilla warfare) when your enemy strikes without notice and quickly retreats
> The Boers were defeated in 1910
> Thus making the whole country a British Colony
> The Union of South Africa was also formed in 1910
7. During this time, the Great African Nations once led by
a king known as Shaka Zulu had long been defeated and
their culture was disdain by the Europeans

>South Africa declared itself a republic in 1961
> National Part which was led by white supremacist, ruled for 30 years
> Apartheid was now declared a national policy
> Shanty towns flourished on the outskirts of central cities
- they were for providing shelter for the workers who worked in mines and other major
industries
