A Comprehensive Program on Aligning HRM Strategies with the Corporate Direction
2. CONTEXT
In the strategic environment, it has become imperative for the organizations to align their human resources
and its management processes in line with the changing direction of the organizations. The quest for
competitive edge and survival implies strategic actions which are timely and effective in an enabling
atmosphere. In this dynamic environment, the organizations have realized that it is the human resource
that holds key to achieving competitive edge among equals. In order to achieve this, the HR function has
become an agent of continuous transformation, re-shaping its processes to improve an organization's
capacity to change for achieving organizational excellence. The alignment of human resource
management systems, procedures, practices and overall processes with other functional management
processes, is a pre-requisite to realize the vision of the organization. Gearing up to the emerging
opportunities and staying in a competitive business environment requires more responsive and innovative
approaches to Human Resource Management. In this context, it is extremely important for an organization
to orient their HR function in consonance with corporate goals.
The accent has shifted from legal and welfare approach to professionalization of HRM by deploying variety
of strategies focused on value creation through HR and leveraging on human potential.
This Program on Strategic Human Resource Management ultimately aims at helping the participants to
develop greater insight into various aspects that facilitate aligning Human Resource strategies with the
Corporate Direction.
OBJECTIVES
The objectives of the Program are to:
m Develop better understanding and diagnosis of the Human Resource problems in organizations
aiming at aligning Human Resource Management functions with Corporate Strategies.
m Provide an opportunity to study various aspects of Human Resource Management, including
Manpower Planning, Human Resource Development, Competency Management, HR Scorecard,
Performance Management, etc., in the light of changing Business Environment.
m Exchange information, based on experience, to reinforce the learning process on practices and
strategies in managing Human Resources.
CONTENTS
The comprehensive Program on Strategic Human Resource Management will deal with various aspects of
Human Resource Management. The contents of the Program include :

METHODOLOGY
The subjects in the program will be dealt with, through an appropriate mix of group discussions, case
studies, exercises and lectures. The sessions will be dealt with by internal faculty as well as a few guest
faculty of eminence. In addition to the basic concepts of Human Resource Management, participants will
work in small groups and go through the process of developing strategic action plans to improve Human
Resource Management.
3. ELIGIBILITY
Senior and middle level executives connected with the responsibility of managing Human Resources
including those dealing with HRD, Employee Appraisal, Manpower Planning, Employee Relations, etc.
Owner managers and entrepreneurs will also find this Program useful in formulating their HR strategies.

LEARNING FROM STUDYTOUR
On completion of Indian Module at COD, the participants would be undertaking a Study Visit to Malaysia
and Singapore, which are very close to the Indian cultural context. The Study Visit is aimed at providing the
opportunity to experience best practices followed by some of the world-class organizations. The Study
Visit will comprise structured visits to world-class organizations in Malaysia and Singapore with the
presentation from their senior leaders in their premises. The exposure to best practices followed by world-
class organizations will not only provide first hand experience but also help participants develop new ideas,
initiatives and processes that will be relevant to the participants to keep themselves abreast with the latest
trends and developments in the HRM.

PROGRAM FEE
Rs. 2,30,000/- (US$4,000/-, if foreign) + applicable Service Tax covers the cost of stay at COD, tuition fee
and courseware for India and structured organizational visits in Malaysia and Singapore. It also includes
return airfare (ex-Hyderabad), visa fees, taxes and coach expenses for visits and related expenses.
(Foreign participants have to arrange visas at their own cost in their respective countries before they arrive
in India).
The fee may be sent by demand draft/cheque in favour of ' ,Centre for Organization Development'
payable at Hyderabad along with the nomination form. In case of administrative delay in processing the
fee, please ensure early registration of participant names, with the fee following later.
STAYEXPENSES ABROAD
Accommodation, food and sight-seeing and out of pocket expenses at both Malaysia and Singapore will
have to be borne by the participants out of their per diem entitlement. This is not included in the Program
fee.
IMPORTANT
Travel and stay arrangements will be made by COD for administrative convenience. Best possible
alternatives will be attempted within the entitlements of participants.
The nominee should possess a passport valid up to end December 2017 with the stamp “Emigration Check
NOT required”. The passport along with four passport size (Head to Chin) Matt Finish Close-up
photographs (mandatory requirement for Singapore Visa), four ordinary passport size colour photographs
and visa forms duly filled in, should reach the Program Director soon after the nominations, but not later
than 30 November, 2016 as visa processing for two countries requires six full working days.th

Dr KN Viswanatham, Professor-OD&HR at Centre for Organization Development, Hyderabad.
He has a Master's degree in Psychology from Andhra University, Visakhapatnam, and an M. Phil
& Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences
(NIMHANS), Bangalore. He is an OD Consultant, Leadership Teacher, and Strategic L&D
Practitioner.
Before joining COD, he worked as Professor, Administrative Staff College, Hyderabad; Head,
Leadership Centre, Indu Projects Ltd, Hyderabad; DGM/Associate Dean-Corporate Training,
Everonn Systems India Ltd., Chennai; Faculty in OB & HRM, ICFAI Business School, Hyderabad,
and Senior Research Fellow in an Indo-US Project, NIMHANS, Bangalore.
Dr. Viswanatham has extensive experience in designing and conducting EDPs for top
management teams for a range of multinational organizations, software companies, PSUs, GoI,
and academic institutes. He is an accredited trainer in various psychometrics. He is also a regular
consultant for print and electronic media on mental health aspects. He has published and
presented papers at national and international fora and has supervised doctoral and pre-doctoral
dissertations.
Dr. Viswanatham's areas of interest include –designing customized results-oriented leadership
interventions for organizations, institutionalizing mentorship programs, coaching for building high
performance organizations.
Prof UmeshwarPandey before taking up the responsibility as the Director, was with ASCI in the
capacities of Dean of Consulting, Director, Centre for Management Studies and Chairman,
Human Resource Management. He was IPCL Chair Professor in Strategic Human Resource
Management. He provided consultancy support to a large number of organizations in India and
abroad including United Nations. He designed and directed a large number of announced
programs and customized in-company training programs in the areas of General Management
and Human Resource Management for Government, Public and Private Sectors Organizations
like HPCL, ONGC, NHPC, ISRO, IFFCO, PNB, DRDO, NPCIL, etc. He also delivered several
customized programs with foreign component for organizations such as, SAIL, NABARD,
Institute of Tourism and Travel Management, Indian Tourism & Development Corporate, Ministry
of Tourism etc.
