2. Research
For my trailer I will most likely pick either a horror or a thriller
as the genre as they are one of the most popular genre’s
independent film companies make due to low budgeting.
Below are classic examples of horror and thriller films:
3. Plot Ideas
1: A thriller - A body is discovered in a local field
leading to a murder case which encapsulates
the whole town. In the mean time, a young group
of school kids know a little more about the case
more than they’re letting on.
2: A horror – A chaotic and chilling film about a
persons fight for survival against the unknown
when they get lost in the wilderness.
4. Soundtrack Ideas
For both my plot ideas, my soundtracks would consist
of similar aspects. Diegetic sound such as floor
boards creaking and the wind howling would be the
stereotypical sound effect for horrors that I might use
in my trailer. Furthermore, non diegetic sounds such
as my own score (dark and tension rising music)
would be played. Furthermore (depending on my
plot I might use dialogue in my trailer.
5. Location
A possible location I have been considering is at
a local park. The hills and trees would create a
good atmosphere for this genre, as the little
skyline would create a claustrophobic feeling
which many horrors try to make. Another location
could be the typical horror abandoned house.
Again the low key lighting and debris would
create a chilling atmosphere.
6. Typical Direction
For both my plot ideas the cinematography and editing
in my trailer would be the very similar if not the same, as
both films are made to create tension and fear:
Editing:
• Straight cuts
• Jump cuts
• Occasionally fades (at the start
or the end of the film)
Cinematography:
• Birds eye view shot
• Over the shoulder
• Long shot
• Two shot
• Low angles
• High angles
• Close up
• Point of view shot
• Track
• Pan
• Extreme long shot
• Tilt
• Eye level shot
7. How you will link it to your
ancillary tasks
In both the poster and magazine cover I
will create, I will use either a close up or a
medium shot (in which the background
will match the location that the trailer
was filmed) of the main character. Low
key lighting and other typical horror and
thriller traits will appear, as well as the
same font and colour scheme for the title
of the film. To the right is an example of
how certain traits of a film carry
themselves across to the
advertising/media side of a film.

you want to do
