4. In what ways does your media product use, develop, or
challenge forms and conventions of a real media product?
My Media product is the front cover, contents page and double page spread
of a rap magazine cover.
The front cover is conventional in the way that I have layed out the picture so
that the image of the artist is just over the name of the magazine which is the
masthead. It is also conventional in the way that I have used different types
of fonts and styles in the cover lines.
It is also convectional in the way that I have used the artists name and used
him to make him seem more ‘swaggy’, the camera shot is also conventional
as head room and shoulder room isn’t massive on my magazine.
5. House Styles
In all three of my magazine pages, I have used rather plain colours
as that is conventional to the genre of magazine that I have
created, the colours are mostly dark and the back grounds are also
dark. I have used some red because it really shows out in front of
the pictures and it would really stand out for a reader whilst
looking at my magazine.
I have used white on the front cover so the audience know what
the headline is and also so it stand out, this is also conventional to
rap magazine covers.
The black is bold as I want the head titles on the Contents page and
Double page spread to stand out, as this is conventional for the rap
magazine pages.
6. Page Layout- Front cover
For the front cover I decided to use a layout that was suited to the
rap genre and I didn’t want to make it so un conventional that is why
I have used a design a lot like the R.Kelly one, I have used the layout
for the cover lines as I saw it was extremely easy to read and it was
also easier to see.
I also thought I would put the masthead right at the top but in a big
headline font as people would recognise this and know what
magazine it was. The masthead is right at the root of the eye so it
would draw the audience in this is conventional in any magazine
cover.
The image placement was tricky as I wanted to stay conventional so I
made it the biggest thing on the page this is conventional, and it
helps the reader recognise a artist easier.
7. Page Layout- Double Page spread
The layout for the double page spread was extremely conventional, like
the image is always on the left hand side and that is conventional for the
double page spread in rap magazines.
I always used the big letter that goes in the middle of the article, usually
it is the first letter of the magazine name, that’s why my symbol is a ‘A’,
this would help the audience to recognise my magazine.
The article is in columns as it breaks it up and makes it easier for the
readers to understand the article, this is conventional for a rap magazine.
Most of the rap magazines have a quote from the artist who is in the
image on the double page spread, this is why I have used a quote from
Curt as it is conventional.
8. Page Layout- Contents Page
The layout for the contents page was also extremely conventional, like
the image is almost always sectioned on the left hand side of the page
and this is conventional for the contents page in rap magazines.
In the contents page the masthead is extremely conventional to the rap
magazine, as it is on three lines and if you look at mine to Vibes they look
almost the same.
The pages are usually placed on the right hand side of the page that is
why I have done mine like this, as it is conventional.
Most of the rap magazines have a whole article on the main artist on the
contents page that is why I have used, if you look at the Vibe magazine
they also have a exclusive with the main image on their magazine.
