1. EVALUATION
How my product
challenges the forms
and conventions of
real media products
2. PRODUCTION
To create my music magazine I researched into different
successful music magazines such as ‘Kerrang’. I did this as I
thought it would give my a good indication of how to layout my
magazine, choose an interesting colour scheme which would
appeal to my target audience and what images I would need to
include on my product.
The main programs I used to put together my magazine were
Photoshop, Fireworks and Publisher. I used Photoshop and
fireworks to edit my images to make them look more professional
and publisher to put together my magazine.
3. CAMERAWORK AND IMAGES
When taking pictures for
magazine, I researched into
leading rock music magazines
such as ‘Kerrang’. This helped me
when I was taking pictures
because I knew which camera
angles to use and how to edit my
pictures so they would appeal to
I asked some of my target
my target audience of young audience about the images on
adults. I also created a survey this cover to find out what they
which helped me decide which liked about to make my
band member to put on my front images relates to it e.g. band
cover. member, camera angle etc.
4. LAYOUT
I wanted to lay out my magazine in a way that it would be very
typical of a music magazine. To ensure I did this I made a survey
and I researched into existing successful magazine. By doing this
I managed to make my cover so that it followed the route of the
eye and was easy to read, I managed to make my contents page
so that it looked cluttered which gives the impression that there is
a lot of information in the magazine and my double page spread
has a large image on one page with pull quotes and on the other
page there is the main article.
5. COLOUR SCHEME AND FONTS
This is one of few magazines I With my research, I discovered that most
looked at to get an idea for my rock/metal music magazines used dark
colour scheme. I chose NME colours and a bright colour which would stand
as it is a popular and out. So I used red, black and white. The
successful magazine and the reason I chose red as it represents blood
colour suit my genre of which relates to the genre and I chose black
magazine. and white as this is what most rock/metal fans
and artists wear. I also used appropriate fonts
that would also appeal to my target audience
and would compete with existing magazines.
The fonts I used were mostly sans serif and
were bold and in your face and gave the
impression that it was shouting at you.
