Lesson Plan – GETTING THE BALANCE RIGHT

This is an upper intermediate lesson plan which focuses on healthy habits. The language areas
covered are:
    • Asking and answering information.
    • Reacting to information.
    • Showing interest.
    • Summarizing material.
    • Taking notes.
    • Sharing information.
    • Designing and Creating a leaflet and a video.
    • Improving their skills (writing, listening, reading and writing)

Each class will last 1:30 hs.

1ST CLASS

Warmer (40 min)

Read the text on page 79 (FastTrack to FCE) and do the exercise. Discuss the information on the
reading and ask students what they think about stress. Ask students about their healthy habits
and why they think it is good to lead a healthy life. Brainstorm students´ideas.
Print out the introduction of the webquest and have students read it and discuss it. What do they
think about teenagers´daily routine?
Web (30 min)

Tell students they´re going to do a quiz to see how healthy they are. Have students take turn to do
the quiz and copy-paste the results for a later print.

Go to the introduction and task sections of the webquest and ask students to read it.




What next (20 min)
Give out the results of the quiz to each of the students and have a discussion about them. Were
the results the ones they expected? Ask them about what they think of having a campaign to help
teenagers improve their lifestyles.

2ND CLASS

Warmer (20 min)

The students will do an activity on beating stress (p81, FastTrack to FCE) and then they will jot
down notes about good and bad healthy habits. Divide the students into groups and make them
compare and discuss their notes.
Web (1 hour)

Have learners check out the Process and follow the instructions. They should be able to do point 1
and 2. Tell them they can use a Word Processor to jot down the information.

What next (10 min)

Print out their notes their summary and main points, give them time to check them for mistakes
and ask any doubt about grammar, vocabulary and punctuation.
3rd CLASS

Warmer (15 min)

Give out a copy of a leaflet as an example

g020.pdf) Tell them that the example is just to check the layout, but that they are not supposed to
do such a long leaflet. Ask them to jot down some ideas from the example and to share them with
their team.

4 and 5.

What next (15 min)

Give them time to check their summary and main points and ask any doubt about grammar,
vocabulary and punctuation. The Product will be presented on a special class for the whole school
in which all the students will vote for the best movie and leaflet. The Evaluation will be done as
homework and send via mail.
