A. Description of the
Level:Upper-intermediate
Class
Students between 20 to 22 years
old.
A mixed group of young adults
(20).
The class takes place from 3:00
pm to 6:00 pm on Mondays and
from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm on
Wednesday.
Students are dynamic and
generally enthusiastic.
Students have completed
approximately 20 hours of
English since they began the
semester.
B. Recent Work
Students have been working on
problem-solving of real-life
situations.
Listening activities (e.g. song
“Zero” of Circus Maximum).
C. Objectives
1. To study relevant vocabulary and
some information related to the
general topic “Average American“.
2. To raise expectations and
curiosity about some important
grammar points.
3. To foster group work through
game-like activities (e.g. board
games, discussions and debates).
D. Contents Objective 1(Estimated time 20 minutes)
a) Context: “Average American”
b) Activity/class organization: T.
will introduce the discussion topic
called “The Average American“giving a
general overview and making a
comparison between the American and
the Colombian one.
Then, Ss will be asked to discuss
2. about this topic and try to find out
the validity of the statements made
by the teacher. Also, Ss will have to
reach a consensus about the “Average
life” they prefer.

Objective 2(Estimated time 40 minutes)
a) Context:”Creating expectations”
about grammar points.
b) Activity/ class organization: T
will explain specific grammar points
giving examples taking into account
the students’ level. After that, Ss
will be asked to choose a card which
contains a word related to the first
grammar point (quantifiers).Ss will
use this word to create a sentence in
order to prove their understanding.
Then, Ss will be asked to complete the
oral statement or situation given by
the T with an expression of contrast
and exception in order to evaluate
this topic as the second grammar
point.
Finally, Ss will be asked to use the
last grammar point (Conditional
sentences) in the creation of a 2
minutes dramatization to be performed
in the classroom.
c) Aids: slides, cards and handout.
d) Language: quantifiers, contrast and
exception expressions and conditional
sentences.
Objective3(Estimated time 25 minutes)
a)Context: Fostering cooperative work
3. b) Activity/class organization: In
order to combine and apply the previous
knowledge T will present a board game
like “Monopoly” by which Ss are going
to be divided in small groups of 4 or 5
people. The game consists on taking
turns to roll the dice to achieve a
higher position in this game.
During the route Ss will have to answer
questions related to the grammar points
and the discussion topic studied before
if they want to win the prize’s game.
c) Aids: board game, dice and cards.
d) Language: quantifiers, contrast and
exception expressions, conditional
sentences and “Average American”.
Possible problem and solution: Ss
can get tired and bored for
studying a lot of topics. For
this reason, T will make the
class as most dynamic and
interactive as possible.
