Drafting the basic
pattern for short pants
By: Rochelle S. Nato
Learning
Objectives:
At the end of this lesson, you should be able to do
the following:
1. Demonstrate an understanding of the
procedure in drafting the front and back
pattern in short pants.
2. Draft pattern for front and back pattern in
short pants.
3. Appreciate the work of art in drafting the
front and back pattern in short pants.
Front Part
Mark the fundamental construction point A
in your pattern. Square out both ways
A-B = Length of the shorts Add 5cm for
bottom hem allowance.
A-C = rise or seat measurement
C-D = 1/6 seat measurement on the L-square
left from C and D.
C-E = 2/3 seat ,measurement on the L-
Square
E-F = 1/3 seat measurement. Square to the
right. Square down from F to G.
Front Part
F-H = 1 ½ cm to the right. Square up from H
to I.
E-J = ½ seat measurement to the right
J-K= ½ of the waist measurement on the L-
Square
J-L= 1.9 cm to the right. Connect K to J. Make
a slight curve to E.
K-M = ½ of the waist measurement on the L-
Square
G-N = ¼ thigh measurement. Connect N to E
Front Part
G-O = ¼ thigh measurement to the right.
Connect M to O with a hip curve 1 ½ cm
inward from C.
M-P = Measure 2 cm. Connect P to I with a
curve line.
Back Part
On the same pattern of the front pattern,
do the following:
O-I = measure 1 ½ cm to the right
N-2 =measure 1 ¼ cm to the left
F-3 = intersect line
3-4 = measure 2cm upward
4-5 = ½ wait measurement to the L-Square.
5-6 = measure 5cm to the left. Connect 6 to
7.
L-7= ½ cm downward
Back Part
E-8 = apply ½ cm of the seat measurement
on the L-square.
Shape the crotch from 6, with a slight curve
1 ¼ cm from 8
5-9 = midpoint of 5 and 6
9-10 =7.5 cm
9-13 =1.5 cm
13-14 = 1.5 cm
