Band: Gorilaz
Album: Plastic Beach
Released: 1998
‘Plastic Beach’, is an album
released by the band ‘Gorilaz’ in
1998, created by Damon Albarn
and Jamie Hewlett. The ‘virtual
band’ consists of four animated
members, who are involved in an
animated universe, often
referred to in their music videos;
one video in particular is
Melancholy Hill, which is visited
by three of the bands, animated
members. ‘Plastic beach’ is the
bands 6th studio album. The album cover, which is displayed on the
advert, shows an island with various features such as; palm trees, a
lighthouse and a large building on the top of the hill, which are all
places visited in the animated
universe during the music
videos. The chosen font for the
album is suited to the artwork as
it is wavy, which is a reference to
the sea and beach in the artwork.
Also in the artwork there is a
submarine, which is again found
in the Melancholy hill music
video (shown to the right). The
article has been made very
simplistic by only issuing its
primary aim, which is to promote the album. ‘THE NEW ALBUM OUT
NOW’ has been written in a large, bold white font over a black
background, this is to ensure that the text stands out to the audience,
in aid of the bands attempt to promote the album and persuade
people to purchase it.
