Introduction
Grammarman comic started in August 2005. Since then it has featured
in magazines and newspapers in eight countries. The Grammarman
website started at the same time, making some of the comics available to
people who don’t live in countries where Grammarman is published.
Grammarman has since taken on a life of his own, and a lot of people
have contributed and helped with the comic and website. A big ‘THANK
YOU’ to Thom Kiddle, Nick Turner, Jules Davies, Jamie Case, Phillip
Donnelly, Mike Kloran and Justin Toland.
Thanks also to every teacher and student who has taken time to send
messages of support, share ideas and give feedback.
This second version of The A-Z of Grammarman contains 40 new entries.
There’s still a lot more Grammarman to come, so look out for Version 3
in the future.
For now, though, this is the definitive who’s who and what’s what in the
world of Verbo City’s brightest star.
Best wishes,
Brian Boyd

skilled mechanic, and he enjoys
football, dancing and practising
Robo-fu, a martial art he developed.
Anna Gramme
Beautiful, but deadly, this mixed-up
lady is never far away from trouble.
However, Anna has one weakness; she
loves to leave scrambled word clues
at the scene of the crime. Luckily,
even the trickiest clues are no match
for Grammarman’s superior brain power.
Anna Gramme is an expert escapologist, and she demonstrated her skills
when she escaped from Sing Song women’s prison in Grammarman
episode 15 – right under the correction crusader’s nose!

from the same galaxy, so communication is possible.
Asterisk Park
Central Verbo City’s largest park has a band stand, a boating lake

Grammarman’s amazing invention has the power to alter molecular
density and make objects bigger or smaller. It also works on living
things, including
People. In one
adventure,
Grammarman
used the technology
to enter Alpha-bot’s
electronic brain
on a mission to
correct a problem
with his android
friend’s speech.

Sibilant Snakes
This species of large snakes is from
the anaconda family. They are typically
found in tropical rainforests, and live
on a diet consisting of anything
beginning with the letter ‘s’. Sibilant
snakes are highly intelligent, and
Sir Pentine keeps six of the beasts as
his pets. Although deadly, the snakes
can be controlled using the hypnotic
power of music.
Silence Bomb, The
Grammarman’s
foe, Wrongo,
created the
silence bomb in
an attempt to put
an end to all
conversation in
Verbo City. In a
race against time,
Grammarman
and friends tracked Wrongo to his secret hideout and discovered the
secret password needed to deactivate the device.

Simon Simple
When the funfair came to Verbo City, trouble came too, in the shape of
Simon Simple. The meddlesome pest decided to put a spanner in the
works and spoil everyone’s fun. Fortunately, Grammarman soon
realized what was going on and put a stop to his shenanigans.
Sing Song
Verbo City’s prison for women is
nicknamed ‘Sing Song’ by the inmates.
The facility has a special maximum
security wing for super-powered inmates
such as The Grammanatrix and Anna
Gramme. Grammarman regularly
donates books to Sing Song in the hope
that education might steer the inmates
back onto the straight and narrow.

Sir Pentine
This slippery customer has wriggled out
of Grammarman’s grasp more than once.
Endless playground teasing about his lisp
drove young Paxton Pentine over the edge
and into a life of crime. As Sir Pentine, he
obsesses over the letter ‘s’ – which he is
unable to pronounce. His unpleasant pets,
the sibilant snakes, sometimes aid his crimes.
Speck, The
The Speck is a member of The Uncanny
TeXt-men superhero team. Originally from
Scotland, explosive expert, Mike Robe, was
shrunk to tiny proportions whilst trying
to defuse a strange alien bomb. He was

Statue of Literary, The
The people of Verbo City erected this impressive structure as a thank you
to Grammarman for his continuing services to his adopted home. The
statue’s head has a public viewing gallery, and it is possible to see clear
across the city to Asterisk Park.
Syntax
There is still so much we don’t know about
this unusual visitor from a distant galaxy.
He originally came to Earth to learn English,
but decided to stay and help Grammarman
in the fight against crime.
Although he can only speak in strange gurgling noises, Syntax
communicates with his friends using telepathy. Grammarman’s
advanced reading skills allow him to contact Syntax from a long distance.
Syntax’s body is a kind of elastic jelly with no bones, and he can stretch
his ‘arms’ and body in all kinds of unusual and useful ways. He wears a
protective suit to enable him to survive in Earth’s atmosphere., Syntax is
over one hundred years old.

Talk Today
Hosted by Mike Westyunz, Talk Today is Verbo City’s most popular chat
show. Filming takes place in the afternoons and it airs five evenings a
week. Wrongo once tried to discredit Grammarman by editing his
appearance on Talk Today before it aired.
Thesaurus
It’s difficult to think of a word
to describe it. This Triassic
period, aquatic dinosaur
shocked the world’s scientists
when it was discovered alive
in Italy’s Lake Comma in the
late nineteen nineties. The
Thesaurus is now Verbo City
Zoo’s main attraction.
Think Tank, The
Just as Batman has the Batmobile, Grammarman’s personal automobile
is the Think Tank. Its jet turbine engine allows a maximum speed of
500 km/hr. The car has a voice activated shielding system and an
onboard computer which allows Grammarman to stay in contact with
his friends or look up new vocabulary whilst out on a mission.

Training Zone, The
Grammarman’s Vocabu-lair has many facilities, and one of the most
interesting is The Training Zone. This underground labyrinth is a
bewildering network of
interconnected rooms.
Around every corner lies
another deadly trap or
perplexing puzzle. The
Training Zone gives
Grammarman, Syntax and
Alpha-bot an opportunity to
hone their skills and test
their abilities.

Uncle Uncountable
Rice, oil, noise, information, soup – if it can’t
be counted, Uncle Uncountable will use it in a
crime. Uncountable nouns are his trademark,
and he is always thinking of new ways to use
them against his archenemy, Grammarman!
A runaway robot? A monster from another
world? Perhaps a ghost? Uncle Uncountable’s
true identity is still unknown, but one thing is
certain: every time he shows up, Grammarman
will be there to stop him. You can count on it!
Uncanny Text-Men, The

size of an ant and ventured inside Alpha-bot’s head on a repair mission.

Verbo City
The City of Hope is a massive multicultural urban centre. Five million
citizens, following their dreams and ambitions, rely on Grammarman to
keep them safe from the clutches of crime. Verbo City’s towering
buildings may be impressive, but it’s the people that give it its spirit.
Vocabu-lair, The
Grammarman’s home and headquarters is the Vocabu-lair. Only ten per
cent of the building sits above ground. The rest is an underground
network of tunnels, rooms and halls. Some parts of the Vocabu-lair look
like a regular house,
but the areas below
ground are
designed to assist
Grammarman in
the pursuit of
justice. Alpha-bot
and Syntax also live
in the Vocabu-lair.

Words Island
Words Island, Hospital
for the Lexically Insane,
opened at the end of the
19th
century. The private
island which houses the
institute was donated to
Verbo City by millionaire,
Waldo Words, who
eventually ended up a
resident in his own facility.
Nowadays, Words Island is in the care of Wilhemina Words, who
continues the work of her great grandfather. Many of Grammarman’s
enemies have spent some time at Words Island, including Adam Bomm,
Oliver Formal-Stiles, Sammy Colon and Rhyming Simon. Sadly, most
forms of lexical insanity are considered incurable.
Wrongo
The master of mistakes! Nothing is
known of Wrongo’s true identity, mainly
because he is the only villain Grammarman
has never caught.
The masked menace savors slipups, and
nothing gives him more pleasure than
causing chaos with blatant bloopers.
Like many of Verbo City’s master criminals,
Wrongo loves to taunt Grammarman by
leaving clues at crime scene.
The letter ‘W’ is his trademark – the mark of Wrongo.

Wrongo (continued)
Although he has never been
captured, Wrongo often
disappears for months at a
time. This suggests he has
another life somewhere else.
Wrongo’s driving goal is to
disgrace and destroy
Grammarman. He created the
element, Kraptonite, which is
capable of overriding Grammarman’s immunity to inaccuracy.
In episode 51 of Grammarman,
Wrongo orchestrated a mass jail
break, releasing some of Verbo
City’s most notorious criminals.
