1. Question 3: What Media
Institution might distribute your
Media Product and why?
By Rhya Warnett
2. Our media product is an Opening
Sequence to a film. The genre of our
piece is a Drama/Thriller, and we are
hoping to find out which Media
Institution might distribute our product!
3. As a group we would want a conglomerate to
distribute our film, as this would demonstrate how
much revenue has been spent on its production,
which will encourage audiences to watch it. In
addition to this, when the film is being distributed,
due to the funding that conglomerates have, they
will be able to market the product to a wider
audience.
An example of institutions of such would be 21st
Century Fox or Disney, as they produce and
distribute films in their subsidiaries.
4. The size of Disney allows them to thrive from benefits such as
5. However, when Disney comes to mind, people imagine
all of the special effects and cartoon characters which
a large portion of their films contain; whereas 21st
Century Fox’s subsidiaries are based on more realistic
storylines.
Due to the fact that our film doesn't contain cartoon
characters and revolves around a real story, connotes
that a large company such as 20th Century Fox should
distribute our film instead.
6. On the other hand there is Warp Films, a smaller
production company which produces films and TV
Dramas. Warp Films has a much smaller budge than
20th Century Fox or Disney, however they have the
funding to produce drama products, which our
Opening Sequence is based on. The fact that they
produce these products, suggests that they will be
more likely to help a small company such as our
‘Rollercoaster Productions’ company out. The only
real disadvantage is their small budget, as they may
not be able to market our product very far.
7. To conclude on my findings, we would
prefer for a conglomerate to distribute
our media product, due to the
numerous marketing benefits that
come along with these high budget
companies. In addition to this, they
could use synergy as a marketing
technique, to attract an even wider
audience with the simultaneous
release of other similar products to
our film.
