2. INDUSTRIAL QUALITY STANDARD IN MANUFACTURING
Quality standard in manufacturing is any solution that is made to check the quality of product to eliminate
and identify defect. Generally, it will be found and repaired the product ever reach the hands of the
customers, but in the same cases, a defect can be found that will trigger a recall or other solution to repair
the issue after the product has been sent.
This is in modern manufacturing era, quality standard in industrial factory is extremely important, due to the
fact that a lot of product are made in relatively short time, therefore if there are machines had problems or
damage it will hamper production and will automatically have an impact on the productivity of a factory.
The advantages or benefit if you implementing quality standard in your manufacturing factory:
1. Customer loyalty, by implementing quality standard will reduce the risk of product defect, so that it
will make customers feel satisfied and trustworthy.
2. Reduced waste, being able to identify quality issues quickly will reduce the amount of waste
produced due to defected products.
3. Compliance, in manufacturing industries, there are compliance, quality standard programs can focus
on these areas to ensure compliance.
4. Improved safety, a defected products is often a dangerous product. Quality standard can find and
eliminate potential safety issues early on.
5. Employee empowerment, all employees are encouraged to take steps to identify issues. This can
help to empower employees, which can lead to improved morale.
6. Increased profits, allowing defected product to continue to be made can result in very costly recalls,
lost customers, and an overall drop in profitability.
7. Corporate image, companies are often known for their great reliability. This accomplishment starts
with a great quality control department. (Turillo, 2020)
Before you can even think about defining a quality standard process, you first need to detail the exact
specifications to be standardized. For example, in the manufacturing of fabric for bed linens the quality of
3. the fabric is generally defined by the type of fiber being used and the thread count. If a low end sheet is
manufacturing with a thread count of 200 and made from 100% cotton/poly blend, this is the standard you
will be inspecting along the way. You can’t have some sheets with a thread count of 250 and others at 190,
and others yet at 300.
The thread count is either 200 or it’s not. The weave is vital in this product and so a system of inspecting
periodically throughout the weave is vital. Here, you will be looking at the type of fiber and the thread count
in the weave. Of course, this is oversimplified because you will also be looking at dye integrity and other
variables, but the point is, you can’t run an entire batch of 200 count cotton/poly blend fabric for bed linens
if it isn’t precise in the parameters set out for the quality of linens being woven. (Manufacturer, 2017)
When implementing a system of quality standard in a manufacturing company it will greatly help the
company more secure in various aspects so that a company will have many advantages.
