1. Commercial radio Show Review
After listening to my radio show I picked up on a few things I could improve up
on but there were also things that I did well. One of the first things I would
change about what I did is the speed in which I’m speaking. Throughout the
entire radio show the pace in which I was speaking was a little too fast.
I feel this made me sound nervous and unprofessional. To do this better I
would make sure I take more breaths and try to relax more when speaking.
Apart from that I feel the speech was good and the conversations were
acceptable. It was also suitable for the audience but there could be more
speaking involved as I feel there wasn’t enough.
Furthermore When I was speaking I had music playing in the background so
that there wasn’t any dead air. This was effective at certain points but to
improve I would make sure the music is a bit quitter and my voice louder as
the music nearly drowned out my voice plus at certain points it did completely.
The music chosen to be played I feel worked well as they were all hits and they
were all listened to by the audience at one point in the last 2 years which
makes them familiar. The language used was formal and casual. This was to
have the purpose of making the audience feel relaxed and give the effect of an
easy listening show.
I found fading the music easy after a bit of practise and towards the end of the
show I managed to do it a lot better and sounded almost professional in my
opinion. Some of the things I thought I did well were making the show sound
fluent. This helped the show seem professional and well planned.
When practising for the show I always mixed up my words when announcing
songs but during the show I managed to pronounce all my words well and have
very little mistakes. At one point I was speaking and forgot to play the song
loud enough in the background so there was just dead air behind us. After
listening back to it you can notice that it doesn’t sound too bad although after
a while it becomes rather boring.
2. To make sure this doesn’t happen again for the next show I will defiantly pay
more attention to the fader so I know when I’m on air and how loud the songs
are.
In my conclusion I feel that the show was effective to its purpose, which was to
keep the audience entertained and sound well composed while talking. There
is defiantly room for improvements although now I noticed the mistakes I
won’t make them for the next show. This will help me make the next show
sound more professional and make the mistakes occur less.
