What did you think?
How did you feel?
#Movies4MentalHealth
● Most of the film is out of focus / visually
showed us how she was feeling
● She was afraid to get help because of how
she was raised
● She didn’t have to only worry about
herself, she had a child to take care of
● If I get help, am I “crazy” like the people
talking to themselves on the corner?
● How people see you shouldn’t matter
● She actually put her kids first by getting
help for herself. Putting your kids first
makes you work on you.
16. How does stigma feel?
#Movies4MentalHealth
● Like you’re trapped
● Like you’re guilt tripping
yourself
● You’re stick in limbo or
purgatory
● Constant waves =
overwhelming
● Cause you to blackout /
shut out real experiences
● Stigma makes them mask
even more
17. What makes it difficult to reach out
for help?
#Movies4MentalHealth
● Internalized stigma
● You can’t blame your parents, so if
they don’t know what to do, what do
you do? Everyone’s in the same spot
● Fear of how the perception of you will
change
● Executive dysfunction - you actually
can’t do things
● It’s expensive
●

What did you think?
How did you feel?
● Turned her pills into something beautiful
● Felt intense - you can see how she
struggles on a daily basis
● Pacing of the film was what it felt like to be
going through that
● Like the description of how we love well: we
chose every day
● Buildup was really intense - shows how
things can get really bad really quick
● Made me feel like, “oh! It’s normal!” - puts
imagery to an idea.
24. What are some practices that support
your wellness?
#Movies4MentalHealth
● Personal events - sound bowls -
meditations. Piece of clarity. Brings the
mind at ease
● Hobbyist - chess, magic, anatomy,
mathematics, basic science, gym,
running, parcour, card throwing, card
flourishes, sword fighting, marshal arts,
fashion, makeup, medical biology
● Listen to music
● Symbolic logic (philosophy)
● Workout - connet mind and body
● Fall in love with the process
● Make lists of what I need to do to reach
29. #Movies4MentalHealth
What are your impressions?
● It felt dramatic, but not over the top
● It felt in your face but not over
exaggerated
● Gets he point across without sounding
pretentious or making you feel like the
bad guy.
● You could tell the filmmaker was truly
proud of being Black
● Felt liberating
● Felt very anti-stigma
●

How can we support ourselves
and others?
● We can make space for people
● Once you have space, you can reach out.
● Normalizing getting help for your mental health
● Doing research because ignorance can be harmful
● Normalizing everything. If I’m feeling some type of way,
bring it up and make it normal for someone else
● Actually having conversations
● Teaching people to be kind, especially to yourself
● Getting off your ass. Not always leaning on someone
● Have people who can help encourage you to overcome
obstacles. Ex: have a mature conversation with a partner.
Uplift each other when we’re down
● Tell someone what’s going on so you can really hear
yourself / know what is going on
● Healing. It’s okay to be a victim. It’s okay to have that
status for now, but over time, you need to grow. Support
yourself agian. It’s okay to take the time you need, but
then move on.
