4. land acknowledgement
Centennial College is proud to be a part of a rich history of
education in this province and in this city. We acknowledge that
we are on the treaty lands and territory of the Mississaugas of the
Credit First Nation and pay tribute to their legacy and the legacy
of all First Peoples of Canada, as we strengthen ties with the
communities we serve and build the future through learning and
through our graduates. Today the traditional meeting place of
Toronto is still home to many Indigenous People from across
Turtle Island and we are grateful to have the opportunity to work
in the communities that have grown in the treaty lands of the
Mississaugas. We acknowledge that we are all treaty people and
accept our responsibility to honour all our relations.

● Chilling at home
● Taking time for myself
● Sleep
● Reflection
12. MH Across Cultures
Across different cultures and languages, people
talk about and explore mental health in multiple
ways.
In just a few words, please share:
How have you experienced the concept of
"mental health" within your own cultural
communities?
13. A judgment or stereotype that is:
● Always negative
● Always untrue
● Can be internalized
What is stigma?

16. SHARE WITH US:
What did you think?
How did you feel?
● Acceptance
● There is some frustration
● Decolonization
●
17. How does stigma feel?
● Isolating - that we are so on our own, that
no one else feels as we do.
● Living in fear, fear of judgement and
rejection.
● Dread feeling stigma if you have ever
experienced it, if you have reached out
before and it hasn’t gone well it can be so
hard to do it again.
● Constricting - like we can be our full selves
● Self guilt - we can make ourselves feel
guilty that we can’t fit into life the way
everyone else seems to.
22. SHARE WITH US:
What did you think?
How did you feel?
● It seems like its all about trust
● Its balancing safety and vulnerability
● Repeating of the patterns, there are cycles that
the characters go through, showing us that this
keeps happening, you have to navigate through it
all the time.
● Muscle memory - hands as enemies - the idea
that there are patterns that keep repeating, what
can we do to stop patterns that don’t serve us.
● Love and fear - the combination and how they can
feel sometimes strangely similar.
● Push and pull of the characters between each
other trying to find out what feels okay for both of
them.
23. What makes it difficult
to reach out for help?
● Reach out for help and someone is unwilling to
help - you can feel worse and you can not want to
reach out at all
● Physical safety - you may not be in a place where
you are safe to do that.
● You may not be at the point where you feel able
to emotionally either. You can just not be ready.
● Feeling isolated so you don’t know how to access
the help.
● Resources, where are they, how do you get
them? How do you make that connection? What
works for me?
● Not feeling like you deserve the help.
