1. In what ways does your media product use, develop, or challenge forms and conventions of real
media products?
• My media product challenges the conventions of other media products by using
the ideas for rock magazines and altering them to fit with the styles of a pop
magazines, for example using a bold and harsh feel of a rock magazine and adding
subtlety to it by using shadows and other shading.
• My media product Develops the conventions of other magazines by mixing two
genres together which most magazines don’t do seeing as they are built around
certain genres of music, for example; Kerrang is built around the genre of rock
music
• My media product also uses the conventions of other magazines such as the big
bold title, I got the idea and inspiration for this from kerrangs magazine, the
abbreviation idea came from my self because I wanted to challenge the
conventions.
2. How does your media product represent particular social groups.
• My media product represents an
age group of around 15-25 who
are into Pop Rock Music, it also
relates to them by using artists
in the 15-25 year age group so
that readers have more to relate
with in my magazine.
3. What Kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?
• Media institutions that are fond of rock or pop music that are aimed at a young
audience may distribute my media product.
• Institutions that want to study and analyze conventions being challenged may also
distribute my magazine to help understand the differences between genres
4. Who would be the audience for your media product
• The audience for my media product would be mainly people aged 15-25 who are
interested in pop rock music, it would also be for people who want diversity in a
magazine.
• It would also be aimed towards an audience who are interested in learning about
the lives of celebrities and reading about what they have done and achieved in
there life's as well as what they want to achieve.
5. How did you attract/address your audience?
• I attract my audience by using a picture of an artist who is fairly new to the
spotlight as well as using bold titles and colours to grab the readers attention, I
also use witty comments in the magazine to keep the reader interested and also to
lighten the mood of my magazine to make the reader feel like they could relate
more with my product.
• I address my audience with bold colours and quotes which grips the readers
attention making them want to read more, I do this by adding thoughts about my
magazine from other magazines which the reader may have read, this is to give the
reader a sense of reliability in my magazine because it is approved of by another
magazine they read
I used colours which stood out from
each other to grab the readers
attention.
I also used a bold title to draw the
reader towards my magazine.
6. What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this
product?
• I have learnt how to use Photoshop effectively, adding shadows and colour and
also how to remove imperfections using a Gaussian blur tool as well as learning
how to darken and lighten images using level adjusters as well as the burn and
dodge tools.
• I have learnt how to edit shapes I have created by rasterizing them and then using
other tools to change them, I have also learnt how to import fonts and brushes
into Photoshop so that I can broaden my amount of tools to use.
• I have learnt how to use quark and how I can add Text to my designs and also work
the text around obstacles For example
7. Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the
progression from it to the full project
I have learnt that too many bold colours can
overpower a magazine, I have also learnt that
sticking to a colour scheme makes your magazine
look more professional, whereas adding random
colours everywhere makes it look very amateur.
I have learnt that using a bold title works better than
a thin one, the reason for this is because the bold
one stands out more and grabs your attention where
as the thin one looks more like a cover line.
I have learnt that using puffs works best if they are
not taking over the page and they are subtle, they
also work when you want something to grab the
readers attention or to stand out from the page.
