REPRESENTATION OF SOCIAL GROUPS
       TARGET AUDIENCE
HOW APPEALED TO TARGET AUDIENCE
PROGRESS FROM PRELIMINARY TASK
Project

 For my project I needed to research on different
types magazines and specific target audiences.

 For my research I've interviewed a number of people
on their views on what they like to see in a
magazine, the way I've done this is by interviewing
people within the school using open and closed
 questions.
Questions

 1.What do you think is more important within a
    magazine the images or text?
 2. What types of magazines do you like to read?
 3. Do you think its important that magazines adhere to
    the stereotypical conventions
 4. Do you think its important that magazines have a good
    influence for the readers?
 5. would you prefer a big name artist or an up and
coming artist to be the main focus of the magazine
 6. what is the price range you would think would be
    suitable?
Answers

 1. images
 2. rap/hip hop
 3. I think its important that magazines use stereotypical
conventions because then the audience will be able to tell
what the magazine is about and because it will be able to
  attract the target audience easier
 4. I do think its important that magazines have a good
influence on readers as it could encourage or inspire
them to achieve what they want to do in life especially if
they wanted to be a rapper
 5. big name artist
 6. £1.50
 Overall I think that I have progressed in since the
first preliminary task. I have learnt to use programs
such as Photoshop, Prezi. Other tools I have learnt to
use are the camera effectively. Besides using
programs I have also learnt to be able to develop my
media terminology and develop an understanding
 about the media industry.
Examples of magazines of the same genre
 I have used these pictures to get a better
understanding on what a rap magazine looks like
and I have used the stereotypical conventions these
magazines have used in my own work.
 In what ways does your media product use, develop or
challenge forms and conventions of real media products
 The conventions of rap magazines front covers are
skylines, cover lines, medium and close up shots in my
magazine I haven't challenged any of these conventions
because if you use the normal conventions there is a
higher chance that a publishing company will accept your
magazine and a higher chance of you being able to sell
your magazine. Also in my magazine I have used hats
and jewellery the reason I have used these props because
they are the generic conventions of a rap magazine so in
order for my audience to know that this is a rap magazine
I have used the stereotypical conventions
 How does your media product represent particular
  social groups
 My magazine represents my target audience in a
positive light as it is aimed at teenagers and young
adults who want to aspire to be rappers. On my front
cover the artist is represented as rich and confident
this could be seen as a positive as it shows if you
work hard you can make it and it could also show no
matter what age you are there is a possibility that
  you can achieve your goal.
 What kind of media institution might distribute your
 media product and why?

 For my magazine I would expect a publishing
company like Time Inc. to publish my magazine.
Magazines they have published include vibe
magazine and NME. Because my magazine may not
be big worldwide it is less likely to be invested by a
 big publishing company
 Who would be the audience for your media product?

 The audience for my magazine is targeted at males
who are aged 16-21 however it is also suitable for
other audiences but this is my main target audience I
chose this because its mainly teenagers and young
adults who are interested in reading rap magazines
also it could be a guide for any young rappers.
 How did you attract/address your audience?

 To attract my audience I used techniques such as
cover mount to give the audience incentive to buy the
magazine. I also used dark colours to attract my
audience as it connotes bad and secrecy this is used
often rap magazines. Another technique I used was
the main artist this can be used to attract fans of the
artist to buy the magazine as they want to find out
the latest info on their favourite artist.
 What have you learnt about technologies from the
 process of constructing this product?

 In media I learnt how to use programs like
prezi, Photoshop and survey monkey. Other
technologies I learnt to use was the camera and flip
recorder. Theses skills have been useful as it has
helped me create a better magazine than I could at
 first
 Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel
you have learnt in the progression from it to the full
 product?

I have learnt more on the magazine industry and how they
work, I have learnt the generic conventions of music
magazines. I have learnt there is a massive difference
between my latest magazine and the first one I done I
believed the difference is because my improvement in
being able to use programs such as Photoshop and
fireworks. In terms of time management I could've have
done my final piece quicker and I feel that I could still
improve on my piece.
