Performance/Power Space Exploration for Binary64 Division Units
Abstract
The digit-recurrence division algorithm is used in several high-performance processors because
it provides good tradeoffs in terms of latency, area and power dissipation. In this work we
develop a minimally redundant radix-8 divider for binary64 (double-precision) aiming at
obtaining better energy efficiency in the performance-per-watt space. The results show that the
radix-8 divider, when compared to radix-4 and radix-16 units, requires less energy to complete a
division for high clock rates.

This paper presents a recursive designing approach for high energy efficient carry select adder (CSA). Nowadays, the portable equipment’s like mobile phones and laptops have higher demands in the market. So, the designers must focus greater attention while designing such devices. Which means that have the devices must have lesser power consumption, low cost and have a better performance. The customers mainly focus on the equipment’s which have lesser power consumption, low cost and better performance. As we all know that the adders are the basic building block of microprocessors. The performance of the adders greatly influences the performance of those processors. The carry select adder is most suitable among other adders which have fast addition operation at low cost. The carry select adder (CSA) consists of chain full adders (FAs) and multiplexers. Here a carry select adder is designed with four FAs and four multiplexers. The proposed structure is assessed by the power consumption of the carry select adder using a 32-nm static CMOS technology for a wide range of supply voltages. The simulation results are obtained using Tanner EDA which reveals that the carry select adder has low power consumption.

The addition of two binary numbers is the important and most frequently used arithmetic process on microprocessors, digital signal processors (DSP), and data-processing application-specific integrated circuits (ASIC). Therefore, binary adders are critical structure blocks in very large-scale integrated (VLSI) circuits. Their effective application is not trivial because a costly carry spread operation involving all operand bits has to be achieved. Many different circuit constructions for binary addition have been planned over the last decades, covering a wide range of presentation characteristics. In today era, reversibility has become essential part of digital world to make digital circuits more efficient. In this paper, we have proposed a new method to reduce quantum cost for ripple carry adder and carry skip adder. The results are simulated in Xilinx by using VHDL language.

The sparse decomposition of images and signals found great use in the field of: Compression, Noise removal and also in the Sources separation. This implies the decomposition of signals in the form of linear combinations with some elements of a redundant dictionary. The dictionary may be either a fixed dictionary (Fourier, Wavelet, etc) or may be learned from a set of samples. The algorithms based on learning the dictionary can be applied to a broad class of signals and have a better compression performance than methods based on fixed dictionary. Here we present a Compressed Sensing (CS) approach with an adaptive dictionary for solving a Determined Blind Source Separation (DBSS). The proposed method has been developed by reformulating a DBSS as Sparse Coding (SC) problem. The algorithm consist of few steps: Mixing matrix estimation, Sparse source separation and Source reconstruction. A sparse mixture of the original source signals has been used for the estimating the mixing matrix which have been used for the reconstruction of the of the source signals. A 'block signal representation' is used for representing the mixture in order to greatly improve the computation efficiency of the 'mixing matrix estimation' and the 'signal recovery' processes without particularly lose separation accuracy. Some experimental results are provided to compare the computation and separation performance of the method by varying the type of the dictionary used, be it fixed or an adaptive one. Finally a real case of study in the field of the Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) is illustrated in which a set of sensor nodes relay data to a multi-receiver node. Since more nodes transmits messages simultaneously it's necessary to separate the mixture of information at the receiver, thus solving a BSS problem.

Retiming of digital circuits is conventionally based on the estimates of propagation delays across different paths in the data-flow graphs (DFGs) obtained by discrete component timing model, which implicitly assumes that operation of a node can begin only after the completion of the operation(s) of its preceding node(s) to obey the data dependence requirement. In this work we develop a minimally redundant radix-8 divider for binary64 (double-precision) aiming at obtaining better energy efficiency in the performance-per-watt space. The results show that the radix-8 divider, when compared to radix-4 and radix-16 units, requires less energy to complete a division for high clock rates.
