3. Natural gas in The Barents Sea
– New opportunitets in The North

4. Why LNG
- Liquefied Natural Gas ?
• Cooled down to -163 degrees C, liquid
• Volume less than 1/600
• Looks like water
LNG is a transport solution for natural gas
4
5. LNG
1. Transportation without pipelines – truck,
boat, train with isolated tanks
2. Flexible distribution to areas without
pipelines
3. Storage in special isolated tanks
5
6. Natural gas can be used as:
•Fuel for ships, cars and buses
–Engine and tank for gas use
•Energy in industrial production or
mining industries
– Heating, steam or drying processes
•Electricity
6
7. Natural gas – reduced emissions
compared to oil and coal
•25 % reduced CO2-emissions (50% compared to coal)
•75-90 % reduced NOx-emissions compared to oil
•No sulfur or dust emissions
7
8. Natural gas or biogas?
- Yes, please, I take both!
• Natural gas and biogass; both mainly methane
• Biogas very young – natural gas very old!
• Use the same equipment; burners, engines in buses and
cars
• LNG can be stored in tanks and used when necessary;
peak load for biogas

9. LNG-transport
9
2 main consepts:
Short value chain (lower investments cost):
LNG-production – transportation by car - users local LNG-terminal – pipeline to
user(s)
Longer value chain (higher investment cost):
LNG-production - transportation by boat – distribution HUB – transportation by
car – users local LNG-terminal – pipeline to user(s)
No definite answer; cost efficiency is depending on volume and distance
10. Today: Trucks from Hammerfest LNG – to
customer
Later: Trucks from importterminals in Finland, Sweden or other places – to
customer
10
14. Short distance to Finland and Sweden
from Hammerfest or from upcoming
importterminals
Hammerfest
Pori

15. Start usingnatural gas?
• Contract, usually long term
• BNG is responsible for the transport
• BNG usually responsible for the customer tank
• BNG responsible for routines for safety and
maintenance at thecustomer terminal
15
16. Why change to LNG/natural gas?
• Reduced emissions compared to oil and coal
• Can be used as peak load for biogas
• Easy; energy is delivered directly to the
customer
• Competitive price; volume, logistic and
tank/infrastructure
