TRANSFORMATION OF SENTENCES (NEGATIVE AND
AFFIRMATIVE SENTENCES
 The Transformation or Conversion of a sentence means changing its form
without altering its sense.
 An affirmative sentence is a positive sentence opposite of a negative sentence
and it expresses an opposing idea.
 An affirmative sentence does not contain negative words like ‘no’, ‘not’, ‘never’,
etc.,
Eg: Negative: I do not believe you.
Affirmative: I disbelieve you.
A.Poornima Devi, Assistant Professor, Dept. of English
EXAMPLES OF NEGATIVE SENTENCES
 Robin has no relatives here.
 Jack is not right.
 I have never seen this case.
 John found the pen nowhere.
 None of us liked the program.
 Alice has nothing to say.
 Nobody asked me anything about Peter.
We use negative words for
negation.
A.Poornima Devi, Assistant Professor, Dept. of English
Hint: While changing a negative
sentence to an affirmative by removing
the negative words, care must be taken
to change the verb into a word that is
opposite in meaning.
Eg: My sister is not younger than I.
I am elder to my sister.
A.Poornima Devi, Assistant Professor, Dept. of English
