3. OBJECTIVE
The objective of this project is to implement a low cost, reliable
and scalable smart wall switch that can be used to remotely switch
on or off any household appliance, using Arduino to achieve
hardware simplicity, and mobile phone app in addition with
physical buttons.
The project also aims at saving energy and utilize it efficiently.
5. WHAT IS AUTOMATION?
• Automation can be defined as the technology by which a process
or procedure is performed without human assistance
• In the scope of industrialization, automation is a step beyond
mechanization.
• Mechanization provided human operators with machinery to
assist them with the physical requirements of work while
automation greatly reduces the need for human sensory and
mental requirements as well.
10. ESP-8266(WI-FI MODULE)
• The ESP8266 is a low-cost Wi-Fi microchip with full TCP/IP
stack and microcontroller capability produced by Shanghai-based
Chinese manufacturer, Espressif Systems
• IEEE 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi
• This small module allows microcontrollers to connect to a Wi-Fi
network and make simple TCP/IP connections using Hayes-style
commands
• Processor: L106 32-bit RISC microprocessor core based on the
Tensilica Xtensa Diamond Standard
11. PIN DESCRIPTION
PIN Description
VCC 3.3 V Power Supply Pin
CH_PD Chip power down pin
(Low=Power Down,
High = Power Up)
Tx Data Transmit Pin( Works
at 3.3V)
Rx Data Receive Pin (Works at
3.3V)
GPIO 0/2 General Purpose I/O Pin
RESET Reset Pin
13. RELAY
This is a 5V 4-channel relay
interface board, and each
channel needs a 15-20mA
driver current. It can be used to
control various appliances and
equipment with large current.
It is equipped with high-current
relays that work under
AC250V 10A or DC30V 10A.
It has a standard interface that
can be controlled directly by
microcontroller.
14. WORKING
• Relays are switches that open and close circuits
electromechanically or electronically.
• Relays control one electrical circuit by opening
and closing contacts in another circuit.
• As relay diagrams show, when a relay contact is
normally open (NO), there is an open contact
when relay is not energized.
15. DHT 11
• This DHT11 Temperature and
Humidity Sensor features a
calibrated digital signal output with
the temperature and humidity
sensor capability.
• The single-wire serial interface
makes system integration quick and
easy. Its small size, low power
consumption and up-to-20 meter
signal transmission making it the
best choice for various applications
16. SPECIFICATION
• Supply Voltage: +5 V
• Temperature range :0-50 °C error of ± 2 °C
• Humidity :20-90% RH ± 5% RH error
• Interface: Digital
17. BLYNK
• Blynk is an app available on iOS and Android platform to control
Arduino, Raspberry Pi over the Internet. It's a digital dashboard
where you can build a graphic interface for your project by
simply dragging and dropping widgets
• It's supporting hardware of your choice. Whether your Arduino
or Raspberry Pi is linked to the Internet over Wi-Fi, this new
ESP8266 chip, Blynk will get you online and ready for the
Internet Of Your Things
18. HOW BLYNK WORKS
• There are three major components in the platform:
Blynk App - Allows to you create user interfaces for your projects using
various widgets it provide.
Blynk Server - Responsible for all the communications between the
smartphone and hardware. You can use Blynk Cloud or run your private
Blynk server locally. It’s open-source, could easily handle thousands of
devices.
Blynk Libraries - For all the popular hardware platforms - enable
communication with the server and process all the incoming and outcoming
commands.
24. CONCLUTION
• The conclusion would be that the prototype is functional yet
requires more work to complete all the functionalities that would
be required for a commercial product. We believes that home
automation is the next big step in the lives of consumers.
