Walkathon
On Sunday, October 2, a group of dedicated
d'Youville students and teachers were part of the Oct 14 Staff Bus Trip to Woodbine Racetrack
National Lifechain. We joined St. Marguerite
d'Youville Parish to stand on Hwy 10, near Steeles,
and witness to the sanctity of human life, from the
moment of conception. For an hour, we held up

support, some did not. Regardless of the response,
Month of October
we wanted to show that the unrestricted access to
abortion is one of the most pressing social justice EMPATHY
issues of our time. How do we measure a caring,
compassionate society? One that extends full
human rights to its most vulnerable citizens, the 1. What is Empathy? (Read the points below
unborn. on empathy and generate a discussion)
2. An empathetic person is someone who Recycle whenever possible
listens when others speak
An empathetic person can see a situation Use a reusable water bottle
from another person’s point of view
An empathetic person notices when Place waste in the garbage bin, even if it isn’t
someone is upset and tries to help theirs
An empathetic person can understand and
name his/her feelings Use materials wisely (G.O.O.S.E paper, use
paper products minimally )
2. Suggested questions for discussion
Turning off monitors and lights in the classrooms
Can you reflect on a time where you found
it difficult to listen to the advice of others Educating others about energy conservation and
and/or see someone else’s point of view? reducing waste
Explain.
To live the virtue of empathy is to walk in Other:
another’s shoes. Why is it difficult for us to
understand another’s situation and why are
we sometimes unwilling to help?
Committees at D’Youville
The St. Marguerite D’Youville Eco Schools
Committee continues to raise awareness about our
environment and how to reduce our ecological
footprint. One of the initiatives that we have started
this year is the monthly celebration of Green
Students. Please see below for the criteria and
encourage your students to strive for Eco
excellence and leadership.
Each month two students, one male and one
female, will be nominated by a department to be
recognized for being GREEN! Once again, please
review the list of months and the departments
Quote of the Week:

those months. “With so much to be grateful for, let us paws and reflect
on the important things in our lives. Let us also be
thankful for the opportunity to teach young people every
