Profile:
My previous position was working within the document control group at CB&I. This involved various administration activities
such as data entry, filing, completing reports, alongside client and interdepartmental communication. Having completed a degree
in sports development it was not the most obvious step into employment, however it has taught me a great deal about working
within a global company. Progression within this industry is my next intention, as I want to take what I have learnt so far into
new experiences. I am versatile when it comes to new challenges as a raft of previous positions helps me to learn and apply
myself effectively.
Employment:
Technical Clerk – Document Control CB&I (Chicago Bridge and Iron) Statoil Mariner Project – November
2013 – November 2015
This project provided the engineering services and procurement support in the development of the detailed design of the Mariner
platform topsides facilities for the Statoil Mariner Topsides EPC Project in the North Sea. My role in this company was a
Technical Clerk, processing design, vendor and third party documentation. This role required prudent time management, liaising
with other employees and clients, and following procedural guidelines. Day to day tasks entailed administration skills, good
verbal and written communication skills alongside the use of the internal electronic document management system (EDMS). To
facilitate the workflow on this project I have used Microsoft Office 2010 suite, Windows 7 operating system, Adobe Reader and
Professional, and IBM Lotus Notes. Alongside this internal software I have also had to utilise the client systems, Documentum
(eRooms-Statoil) and IMS (DIMS-DSME).
Working on the design, vendor and third party side has provided me with the opportunity to interact with different companies
including Statoil, DSME, FORCE Technology and RDS. More recently my responsibilities have been to manage all incoming
and outgoing third party documentation. This requires coordination with the different disciplines within the company, but also an
understanding of working with multiple clients, and different specification of workflow.
The Barn Pub and Restaurant – October 2013 – December 2013
This job entails bar work, providing a friendly service to customers and a responsibility to keep the bar clean, tidy, and stocked
up. Main duties include making a note of missing stock and replenishing the stores, taking and relaying food and drink orders to
the kitchen staff, then delivering the orders to the correct customers. Being able to work in a logical order and have a hierarchical
priority of service to be cost, and time, effective for the company.
TOP RUNG Handyman Services – June 2013 – September 2013
Working for this company includes labour intensive work, as and when required, involving the removal of waste products from
the property and strategic planning of time and resources. This is to gain an insight and increase my knowledge regarding
property renovation, values, and marketing.
Dudsbury Golf Club and Hotel (Part-time evening)– November 2012 – June 2013:
Original employment involved providing bar and waiting work in the Bentley’s restaurant and piano bar within the golf club and
hotel. The requirement for this job was to be able to make and serve all the drinks to the bar and restaurant, greet and seat
customers in the restaurant, and serve food to silver service specifications. Alongside this I was required to organise the quality
and stock control in the bar area, and utilise the itemised billing system for the customers.
Training Dayz Sports Coach – September 2009 – June 2013:
While continuing with my university studies Training Dayz provided me with additional responsibilities as a coach. This
included planning, running, and evaluating my own training sessions. Training Dayz provides nursery sessions, breakfast clubs,
lunch time clubs and cover, and after school club for primary schools for the community in the local area. Initially I was
employed in voluntary work assisting coaches in afterschool sessions. This has vastly improved my self-management skills as
being dependent upon myself to make the sessions successful. It also requires me to be innovative when it comes to problem
solving, forward thinking and flexible whilst out on placement. Working with the other coaches in the company has taught me
about interdependence and how that can help with team working and effective communication skills within the workplace,
gaining knowledge from the more experienced coaches. An organisational aspect to this work was the accurate documentation of
invoices for the employer and for my personal accounts.
Gap Year travelling and University attendance – November 2008 – September 2010
The intermittent employment at William Hill was due the fact that I went travelling in November 2008 around South East Asia,
Australia, and New Zealand. I started university in 2009 and therefore was not able to continue my employment at William Hill
throughout the University term. However, they were accommodating in having me return to work for the period over the
University summer break.
William Hill – Customer Service Assistant – June 2010- September 2010; June 2009-September 2009; July
2008-November 2008
Roles and responsibilities here included lone-manning of the shop, travelling to other shops in the area as required and keeping
up to date on all sporting events to provide effective management of in-shop operations and offer a friendly service. This also
provided and insight in dealing with difficult and disappointed persons on the premises and minimising any effect on other
members of the public. The processing of betting slips involved using the provided system to enter data accurately to ensure the
correct selections were transferred to the correct sections of the system. This enabled the collection of returns to the customer to
be immediate and correct.
Superdrug – Sales Assistant – April 2006- July 2008
This was part-time work whilst still studying at school. This included money handing; customer service, stock management,
cleaning duties and promotional product changes. This was the first step onto the employment ladder and enabled me to gain
knowledge of the inner working of a business and develop key interpersonal skills. Stock management involved data entry in the
form of a stock take by using the software and hardware provided. This meant counting and entering the correct amount of stock
so the ordering of new stock to the store was never surplus nor inadequate.
Bournemouth Borough Council:
One week’s voluntary work experience in the Sports Development Dept including coaching football in the community with
representatives from Bournemouth Football Club, assisting Parks & Forestry Ranger with duties in town centre parks and on the
New Forest, assisting the sports development officer with promotion of school activities. This provided me with the insight into
my preferred degree path.
Education:
My main focus in education has revolved around sport and what it can do to help people achieve successfully run events, find
enjoyment in the participation of sport, and get the best out of their performance. My dissertation looked at how small business
management strategies could help team performance in football. I always apply what I have learned in a sporting environment to
the workplace, working as part of a team, motivation to perform, organisation, strategic planning, coordination and cooperation
to provide a high quality service.
