Becoming A Good Writer
To me, the best writing is when you can't put the book down and want to keep reading more and more. It is when you can make a personal connection
to whatever the characters are going through in their life. To make a good piece of writing you have to have many things, but most importantly you
should have good vocabulary, punctuation, and sentence fluency so that it is easy to follow.
I know that writing will always be an important thing in my life. I'm taking Foundations of Writing to prepare myself for college and to learn how to
become a better writer. I will use what I learned in this class while I am writing college papers or even for a future job.
When I am given an assignment, the first thing I do is think about how I am going to write it. Then I begin writing down my thoughts until I can't
think of anything else to add. When I have no new ideas I start to get bored and then I begin to procrastinate. Procrastinating is one of my biggest
weaknesses. I always wait until just a few days before the paper is due to really start working on it hard. Another weakness of mine is that it's hard for
me to put my thoughts into words and sentences that make sense. Something I have never understood are semicolons. I don't know when I should use
them and when I should not. I would say that my biggest strengths are that I always write in complete sentences and use good vocabulary....show more

After I complete this class I hope that I will know how to correctly use semicolons and that I won't have to question when to use them. In this class I
want to push myself and become a better writer. I want to ask lots of questions and understand what I am learning so I'll remember it for years to
come. I expect the teacher to help me whenever I have a question or don't understand

This book showed the struggle between rich and poor. The two main groups of the story were the Socs and the greasers. The Socs are in the upper
class while the greasers are the poor ones that dislike the Socs because they have more money, better cars, and act like they are better than the
greasers. The Outsiders is a good story by S.E. Hinton that shows the struggles of growing up Hinton did a fine job with the character development,
the plot, and the theme with a few flaws. The Outsiders is a book that changed the style of young adult writers because it went off from the genre that
young adult writer were using during that time period. The reader sees the everyday problems that teenagers were going through, "I can't take much

The fact that all three boys were still moving on without their parents showed that they had a lot of heart. The two main divisions were between
the Greasers and the Socs, and this rivalry led to many conflicts in the book. Hinton illustrates the divisions and fighting in this quote, "They
caught him and one of them had a lot of rings on his hand that's what had cut Johnny up so badly" (Hinton 33). Johnny was attacked by four Socs
when he was playing with a football at the park. There are many times in the book where Socs attacked Greasers that were walking alone. Howard
explains the divisions and violence of the gangs in this quote, "Tulsa was one of many American cities that had seen an increasing division between
social classes since World War II, and the animosity between Greasers and Socs gangs illustrated the extent to which this division between social
classes had permeated society" (Howard 28). The Greasers were seen as the poor outcast while the Socs were the popular one with all the money.
The Socs provoke the Greasers by saying hurtful things and attacking them so both gangs feel the need to fight to prove that they are better. Hinton
did a good job of portraying the violence and building up to these points and this keeps the reader interested in the book. There are many critics and
parents who were outraged about the violence that takes place in the book. This quote by Hinton demonstrates the harsh violence, "I ducked and

The Importance of Clarity in Writing Essay
The Importance of Clarity in Writing
To write a good paper is there a magical recipe to follow? If there is you will not find it in these two books; Williams' Style: Toward Clarity and
Grace and Strunk and White's The Elements of Style. What you will find is the elements that should be present to have a successful paper. Of all the
styles mention though, one seems to stick out more then the others. This is the element of Clarity.
What is clarity, you may be asking? It is simply the process of making your paper clear to the intended audience of your text. This may sound too easy
and most of us probably think our papers are always clear, after all we know what we are saying in them. The question is, does everyone else? Both

It will also shorten our sentences, just by leaving out the words that were unnecessary in the first place. It also ensures that there are characters listed
for the reader to understand. A lot of sentences seem to forget the characters, which makes the reader search to see who thesentence is even about.
By using Williams' requirements though, you are not changing the way you write to your audience. This will shorten your sentences, but not as
Williams said, "into Dick–and–Jane sentences. (25) This only allows the writer to be more to the point which will eliminate most of the fancy words
and will automatically shorten the sentences. If you like the longer sentences though, Williams does not say you have to follow this rule exactly as it
is written. As long as from the beginning to the end of your sentence there is a whole understanding of everything in between. This I believe is
important, because many writers feel that if you are going to be clear then you must be short and to the point, but Williams allows you the flexibility
to write as you find comfortable, as long as the reader finds it comfortable as well.
Another point on clarity that all the authors bring up is the importance of the flow of your sentences. Your sentences may be clear, but if they do not
flow into the next one then there is no point in being clear. You need to make sure that each sentence is treated individually and then put together

I Am A Great Writer
I'm a great writer. Writing is something that comes naturally to me. I don't even have to think about it most of the time. Being able to communicate
through writing is important with any career, especially management. I am very creative as well. Ever since I was a kid, I've always been into
drawing, music, and coming up with new ideas. I am very motivated and I know how to lead teams. For example, in my Business Ethics class I took it
upon myself led a semi–dysfunctional team and we achieved a good grade in the class. I am also a perfectionist, which is good but can easily
backfire on me. Where I See My Management Weaknesses One of my weaknesses might be that I'm an introvert. To address the introvert/extravert
issue; I'd say I'm more of an introvert. Some of my favorite authors including Zig Ziglar and Grant Cardone identify themselves as introverts
although they come across as strong extraverts. Mr. Ziglar said something that made me want to get into sales. He said that introverts make better
salespeople because they can relate to the customer better, research what the customer wants, and adopt characteristics that an extravert has. On
my spare time I read books like "Sell or be sold" by Grant Cardone, "See you at the top" by Zig Ziglar, "Live your dreams" by Les Brown, and of
course "The War of Art" by Steven Pressfield. All of which motivate me and make me a better person. I view success as my obligation, duty, and
responsibility and I believe it is dangerous to be

What Makes A Good Writer?
The most important thing that a piece "good" writing does is make people question where they stand on certain topics. This is the most important
thing because when you question things you learn more, and when learn more you will be able to teach more. When you read something you do not
want to just read it and not learn anything from it, then there would have been no purpose in reading it. Writers do not just write papers so they can
tell the reader what is right or wrong. They write to explain their theory, to make others understand where they are coming from and the logic behind
them.
A writer can accomplish composing a "good" piece of writing by making sure he has logical reasoning behind their statements, by making it
noticeable when they transition into explaining another point, and when by not letting their personal feelings be put ahead of their logical reasons,
and by making the reader question them. These are not only important for the author but it is also important for the reader. If a author does not have
a logical reasoning behind his statements than the reader can not take it as a credible source and they will most likely not believe it. Transitions are a
huge part of good writing also because if a reader can not tell when your last point ends and the next one starts...show more content...

necessity in life and people learn the most by reading. Reading is an everyday activity and if an author writes something people expect to learn from
it. It also makes the author learn. While writing the author is putting his skills to use. By doing that they are keeping their brain function high and they
are getting relieving themselves from any medical issues that come with age and affect the brain. This being true that is an effect from writing you can

I Am A Good Writer
I have never been a good writer as far as I can remember. It has always been that way, no matter what strategies I have employed to improve my
writing ability be it making an outline or planning out the paper in any way. It didn't matter if I was doing a research paper, a reflective essay or even
a personal narrative. The writing that I had done in middle school and high school was by far the worst of it. When I was little, I used to love writing. I
would write about anything from dragons to adventures in space, and most of the time it wasn't in any way related to school at all. I used to love
writing because I could write about whatever I wanted and had no one to tell me that it was poorly written and no one to give me a bad grade on
it. It wasn't until I started to have to write papers for school that I began to dislike writing. I remember when I was ten, I wrote a story about two
dragons fighting off hordes of knights attempting to steal the dragons gold for the corrupt king. No one told me that I had to write a story, I wrote it
on my own time over the summer and I loved every minute that I was writing. I wrote almost every day, but now that I started to get bad grades on
something that I worked so hard on and being told I was an abysmal writer, it began to discourage me and push me away from the enjoyment I used to
have when writing.
I was a sub–par writer all throughout my time going to school, but it was the worst in my senior year of high school. I went

Guidelines For A Strong Essay
Guidelines to a strong essay
You might be wondering why it is important to write a strong essay I can give a few reasons. It is important to write essays because it helps to
further develop your writing skills. If you continue to write essays, journals etc. you learn to express yourself, by not physically saying anything which
can be hard. Everyone needs to know the process to writing a strong essay, because you never know when you might have to do something for your
job. Without utilizing these tools and remembering them could hinder your success. We use writing everyday whether it be texting, emailing or
homework official and unofficial. There are six main focal points to the composing of a strong essay. To write a strong essay you need to address
these six topics: Brain storming, research, audience, tone, draft and revision. Address those six points and you are on the right track to a great paper.
First, step to writing a strong successful paper is to brainstorm ideas. Brainstorming is when you as the writer produce ideas or ways of solving a
problem by holding a spontaneous group discussion or by scrabbling ideas. This is where you start to come up with a topic and start developing an
outline for your paper. Also this is important because it can help keep your ideas and thoughts in order, when everything seems jumbled up. To
effectively brainstorm you should start an outline to follow. Your outline should be spilt up in sections you would like to discuss and then

What Makes Good Writing? Essay
This for me was a very hard question to answer due to the fact that its an opinion, and there are very many types of writing. Different structures, ideas,
metaphors, and concepts. You have to remember to ask, whether the writing in itself is good in my point of view or not, has to answer to my specific
guidelines which in your case might not be the same. The first and foremost of the many guidelines is how the author set's up the introductory sentence
or better yet, the hook. If the author for example, is writing a cook–book, his first sentence should be appealing to the sense of taste. For example, If you
are writing on how to bake a chocolate cake, you can sound appealing by saying, it will almost feel like you added a hint of heaven...show more

Obviously the reader wont stay keyed in if you aren't, but I'm talking about making sense in a way where the reader can relate to you. Give an
example of a situation that most people go through in everyday life. The main idea that authors need to keep with them is the power of the authors
words relays only upon the reader.
Another huge element in good writing is production. You can be interesting, you can sound great, but if your story is just not headed anywhere the
reader will eventually lose focus and move on. Even if you have many details surrounding your story, try to focus in on the ones that play key roles.
A lot of readers talk about how something happened more then why. I like to hear the reasons for why rather then for how because if you already
know the climax of the story you really wouldn't wanna track your steps back, though informing the reader why can actually spice things up.
The biggest factor that plays in good writing in my opinion is how much emotion the writer puts into his or her work. Honestly, a good reader will be
able to tell how much effort was put into a writing from the first couple of sentences. If the reader gets a sense of the writing trying to force words
into a sentence or trying to stretch out a page you will lose your reader right then and there. If you honestly believe in what you are writing and have
interest in the subject matter the reader will be able to read between the lines and actually have a feeling of being there,

My Best Day Essay : My Perfect Day
Have you ever wondered what a perfect day would be like? An everyday routine starts to get annoying and boring, especially if you don't get a day
off. At the moment, my routine is to wake up early, get ready for school, go to school, and after a long day come back home. From the time I get
home which is around two in the afternoon and by the time I go to sleep, it all consists of doing homework. Sometimes I wish I can at least take a day
off and relax, with having no worries. The idea of a perfect day for me should be a day to get rid of stress, and should be an unforgettable day.
As the sun started to come out, I knew it was time to start my day. The perfect day that I've always dreamed of was going to be today. I looked at my

delivered I went back into my bed and started eating my orange chicken with rice. By that time, I was already in the fourth movie, all of a sudden it
was really dark outside, but I was not scared at all, even though I was home alone. Now it was around ten at night and I had finished watching the
Halloween series. I turned my tv off and started playing really loud music on my speaker. I knew it was nighttime and the neighbors might complain,
but at the moment I didn't care about anything. I enjoy listening to depressing songs specially from Coldplay which gets me in the mood to cry. My
eyes began to close so I turned my speaker off as well as the light and I went to sleep. At last, a perfect day for me should be different from any
ordinary day, and should enjoy it like as if it was my last. I see a perfect day as not something outstanding, but more of like a lazy day. This day was
one of the best days I've ever had because it's been forever since I've taken a break. Many people might do something like this on a regular day, but for
me it was one of the days where I got to stay in bed, relax, and let all of the stress out. Days like this doesn't hurt and everyone has their own ideal day,
but for me is all about being comfortable. As long as, I have a day off

How I Became A Better Writer
So I have become a way better writer than how I ever been in my high school career. My vocabulary has extended dramatically since being in

i know that means you have a large vocabulary, but i don't really care about that. I feel that I don't need to show that, but it is good to have it. I feel
that i can improve more ,but I have become a great writer.
The goals i feel like is a more variety of a vocabulary list. I think i can become a stronger writing. I want people to know that i am a amazing writer and
not just a normal writer. To students in the future that will be having these assignments,

Essay about How To Be A Good Employee
Being a good employee is essential in today's world, especially in these tough economic times when there are many seeking work. Consequently, it
is important to keep in mind that no employee is irreplaceable. While hearing many complain these days about his or her job, one just needs to look
around and be thankful that they have the means in which to survive and are able to work. There are many who are not only unemployed, but also
unable to perform due to illness or a disability. Sometimes when a person is feeling in a mood to complain, they may need to sit back, relax and take
a look around in order to appreciate what they have, and learn how to be a good employee.

Staying to finish the job or at least reach a stopping point will not be that much of a delay. If it is impossible to stay later, then you should plan your
day more effectively
Do not call in sick unless you are, or take for granted that you can call in a vacation day spontaneously. Vacations and personal time should be
scheduled. When you are out, your job is delegated to others, and having to take on unexpected responsibilities without being prepared can affect
production or productivity, as well cause stress and conflict among others.
Be that employee who, when someone asks you to do something, will feel confident that the job will be done, and done right, without a doubt.
Dependability goes a long way in the workforce, and having the reputation of being the employee that everyone can count on is a compliment.
*Be respectful
This means to respect others as you would want them to respect you. If you ask someone for help and they concur, do not steal the credit for their
work. On the other hand, if what they helped you with is unintentionally wrong, do not blame them or yell at them, as they were only trying to help you
out. Never cut someone else down in front of others, yell at them or point out their bad qualities.
Do not gossip, or fall in to the trap of one who does. Gossip can destroy a person and ruin their career, and is something that is easy to fall in to.
*Use time wisely

What is Good? Essay
What is Good?
Good, a word used by all, but most not truly knowing what the true concept of good actually is. What is good? Good, in my own understanding,
entails an act or statement that is, not only morally and perceptively correct in the eyes of others, but also in one's own eyes. There is a sense of
accomplishment; a sense of achievement felt when something good has been done. This feeling usually does not only pertain to the individual, but also
to those around him who might have benefited in one way or another from his/her good deed or statement. It is important to note that morals only apply
to individual action and consequence. Ethics, however, apply to the actions of two or more people. Ethics are meaningless unless...show more content...
Good can be thought of as situations in which one is found to have more pleasure in his/her life due to the occurrence of that specific event. One
can receive more pleasure in life by getting a new job. A new job would give someone money and the opportunity to do more things that would add
pleasure to their life. An example of this in my life would be a job I just recently got in which I am now making more money than I was at my old
job. With this job, I now have more money to do more things that will help to bring more pleasure in my life. I will never be able to do all things that
I would like to do and this is where Plato's idea of good being unattainable is demonstrated. Something that is unachievable would seem to have
different opinions based on different personal beliefs. There are the ethical and moral stands on each issue and oneself and the people around them
determine this sense of good by acknowledging the ethical and moral standpoints and determining what is more important to them regarding their
decision. If something makes you and the people around you happy, then what happened to cause this occurrence was good. For instance, scoring the
game–winning touchdown in a football game is good because your whole team will be happy about that touchdown and about winning the game.
Another instance of this would be talking to your best friend after he/she just heard some bad news and cheering them up is good.

Saying Goodbye Essay
I never thought this day would come. I mean, I did know it was coming, but I just never thought it would be this soon. Since birth, Lina has been
my older sister, my companion, my confidant, and moreover, my best friend. As years passed, I acknowledged that we were getting older, and that
the date of her departure was getting closer, yet, I did not want to believe it. Since last year, she had been in the exhausting process of applying to
universities, and by the end of May, the University of New Orleans (UNO) granted her with a generous scholarship. With a smile full of pride and
amazement, she accepted the scholarship and reserved her space in the Psychology field in the UNO. Overshadowed by the great news of her
scholarship, we failed to...show more content...
Suddenly, she stood up and a warm smile lightened her face. Her eyes shone with excitement as her three best friends approached her. They talked and
laughed zealously; they joked as if they had forgotten what was about to happen in less than an hour. I could not help myself from watching her.
Her smile was genuine and her sight deep. Her voice was melodic while she recounted all the anecdotes the four girls had shared for six long years.
She moved her hands while she talked and showed her perfectly white teeth while she laughed. There was no fear in her face, just a spark of
adventure glistened at the corner of her eyes. She was about to undertake a journey to the small state of Louisiana, to the beautiful jazz city of
New Orleans, and even at the verge of starting a new life on her own, she showed no signs of anxiety or uneasiness. There were so many reasons
why not to cry: she was happy, she was young, she had a great opportunity to study abroad, something not everyone has, and many more that would
take me a whole day to mention. However, I only needed one reason why to cry: I would no longer have her by my side. As a tremendous storm, an
urge of crying overwhelmed me, and all I could do was to sit down, hide my face in my hands and let my emotions overpower me. She looked at me
and frowned. I knew it hurt her to see me that way, but I couldn't stop. She came near me and hugged me, without saying a word. What

What Makes A Good Person? Essay
If you asked a random person on the street "what is a good person?" or "what is the good life?" you would likely receive a different answer from
everyone. These answers would be different because everyone has their own ideas and opinions of what the answers should be. For many, a good
person is someone who lives a good life, is a Christian, or someone who helps other individuals. For some, a good person might be someone who
puts others first and someone who is reliable. The same applies to the answers you would receive from "what is the good life?" Just like everyone
had different opinions on what a good person is, they will also have different opinions on what the good life is. You might get answers ranging
from spending time with one's family to having a lot of money. These answers vary depending on the individuals values and world view. For some
individuals this desire for money can cause them to act on it, driving them to steal in order to gain happiness. Bronk supports this idea by stating,
"Our answers guide our actions, influence our decisions, and inspire our dreams" (2008, p.713). This paper will discuss how philosophers believe
everyone should live and what kind of people we should be, what a good person is, what the good life is, and what the relationship between
goodness and human reality is. How Ought We to Live and What Kind of People Should We Be? Individuals have different opinions on how people

To Be A Good Writer
Abagail DiFeo
What does it mean to be a good writer? Is being a good writer something that just comes naturally to certain people? Or is being a good writer
something that must be taught or learned? Personally, I feel that to be a good writer you have to really be able to think and understand what you are
writing about and who you are writing for. There are many different styles of writing. Some authors write very literal and do not try to relate to their
audience. Other authors write to relate and try to get their audiences to understand what it is that they are writing about.
Writers while writing may form some type of process to gather ideas or organize their thoughts into cohesive text. Once given either an idea or a
prompt one must think about how they will go about writing. To develop strong writing time must be taken to outline ideas, write drafts, submit
revisions, and be happy with the finished product. Every writer will have their own ways of handling their...show more content...
It is very important for the writer to outline their ideas and to have very specific outcomes. When writing to inform a good writer must be well
educated in their topics and can not afford to not do their research.
Imagination is something good writers have when writing creative fiction or descriptive text. Writers who are able to take their audience on a journey
by only using their words are some of the best writers, in my opinion. The ability to have the audience see clearly what the author wants them to see is
a talent that not many have.
When writing a persuasive piece good writers are able to invoke strong feelings through their text. Trying to convince someone of something is hard
enough to do in person, but to be able to persuade someone through words alone is a strong writers talent. Good writers are able to capture your
attention and keep it throughout the entire

Qualities of a good essay
Given below is the process that should be followed for essay writing. 1Select the topic of your essay, be careful about its wording. 1. Choose the
central idea, or thesis, of your essay. For example: Information technology has revolutionized the way we work. 2. Outline your essay into introductory,
body and summary paragraphs. 3. The introductory paragraph begins with an interesting sentence. For example: Home workers have grown from
150,000 to over 12 million in the past 5 years thanks to the wonders of the computer. 4. After this first sentence, add your thesis statement from above.

Argument Essay Outline:
Paragraph 1: State Your Proposition– Requires a general introduction of the problem plus your opinion about said problem.
Paragraph 2–3: Anticipate Opposition – State history of the problem including failed attempts at resolution of the problem (include sources)
Paragraph 4–6: Expand Your Argument– Extent of the problem i.e., who is affected, how bad is it, etc (include sources)
Paragraphs 7–8: Anticipate Consequences – Repercussions of the problem not being solved. (include sources)
Paragraphs 9–10: Connect with the Facts – Anticipate objections and make concessions while connecting your arguments with the facts.
Paragraph 11: Conclude – Restatement of thesis and summary of main ideas.
Something found in all good argument essays are appeals to the following three areas. People are more likely to be persuaded when you touch upon
all three of the following areas as opposed to just one or two of them. 1. Reason 2. Ethics 3. Emotion
Not all people are persuaded by logic. (My wife, for example ;–) Likewise, some require an appeal to the ethic to

How To Write A Year Round School Essay
Balanced Calendar Many Schools around the world follow this schooling schedule it makes you wonder why shouldn't we be apart of it too. The
people who play their role in being apart of this schooling schedule both love and hate it at the same time. At the end of the day, year round–schools
change people for better or worse the ones who hate it at first eventually change their perspective of it at the end when they notice the results in their
test, and it will change how students will have to adjust their years and vacations due to smaller breaks. Year round–schooling was a schedule used
around the world but throughout the years it has been making its way to the U.S. probably even to a city near you. Throughout the Harrison School
District 2, many of their students were getting ready to start school again for their second school year as part of a year round school district. Many
teachers announced that at first they weren't so grateful about it but as the time went by they started changing their thoughts about it. ( "It's back to

fact about year–round school is that if you were to go to a year round school since elementary school by the time you enter high school you would have

Becoming A Good Writer

  • 1. Becoming A Good Writer To me, the best writing is when you can't put the book down and want to keep reading more and more. It is when you can make a personal connection to whatever the characters are going through in their life. To make a good piece of writing you have to have many things, but most importantly you should have good vocabulary, punctuation, and sentence fluency so that it is easy to follow. I know that writing will always be an important thing in my life. I'm taking Foundations of Writing to prepare myself for college and to learn how to become a better writer. I will use what I learned in this class while I am writing college papers or even for a future job. When I am given an assignment, the first thing I do is think about how I am going to write it. Then I begin writing down my thoughts until I can't think of anything else to add. When I have no new ideas I start to get bored and then I begin to procrastinate. Procrastinating is one of my biggest weaknesses. I always wait until just a few days before the paper is due to really start working on it hard. Another weakness of mine is that it's hard for me to put my thoughts into words and sentences that make sense. Something I have never understood are semicolons. I don't know when I should use them and when I should not. I would say that my biggest strengths are that I always write in complete sentences and use good vocabulary....show more content... After I complete this class I hope that I will know how to correctly use semicolons and that I won't have to question when to use them. In this class I want to push myself and become a better writer. I want to ask lots of questions and understand what I am learning so I'll remember it for years to come. I expect the teacher to help me whenever I have a question or don't understand Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. This book showed the struggle between rich and poor. The two main groups of the story were the Socs and the greasers. The Socs are in the upper class while the greasers are the poor ones that dislike the Socs because they have more money, better cars, and act like they are better than the greasers. The Outsiders is a good story by S.E. Hinton that shows the struggles of growing up Hinton did a fine job with the character development, the plot, and the theme with a few flaws. The Outsiders is a book that changed the style of young adult writers because it went off from the genre that young adult writer were using during that time period. The reader sees the everyday problems that teenagers were going through, "I can't take much more...show more content... The fact that all three boys were still moving on without their parents showed that they had a lot of heart. The two main divisions were between the Greasers and the Socs, and this rivalry led to many conflicts in the book. Hinton illustrates the divisions and fighting in this quote, "They caught him and one of them had a lot of rings on his hand that's what had cut Johnny up so badly" (Hinton 33). Johnny was attacked by four Socs when he was playing with a football at the park. There are many times in the book where Socs attacked Greasers that were walking alone. Howard explains the divisions and violence of the gangs in this quote, "Tulsa was one of many American cities that had seen an increasing division between social classes since World War II, and the animosity between Greasers and Socs gangs illustrated the extent to which this division between social classes had permeated society" (Howard 28). The Greasers were seen as the poor outcast while the Socs were the popular one with all the money. The Socs provoke the Greasers by saying hurtful things and attacking them so both gangs feel the need to fight to prove that they are better. Hinton did a good job of portraying the violence and building up to these points and this keeps the reader interested in the book. There are many critics and parents who were outraged about the violence that takes place in the book. This quote by Hinton demonstrates the harsh violence, "I ducked and Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. The Importance of Clarity in Writing Essay The Importance of Clarity in Writing To write a good paper is there a magical recipe to follow? If there is you will not find it in these two books; Williams' Style: Toward Clarity and Grace and Strunk and White's The Elements of Style. What you will find is the elements that should be present to have a successful paper. Of all the styles mention though, one seems to stick out more then the others. This is the element of Clarity. What is clarity, you may be asking? It is simply the process of making your paper clear to the intended audience of your text. This may sound too easy and most of us probably think our papers are always clear, after all we know what we are saying in them. The question is, does everyone else? Both Williams...show more content... It will also shorten our sentences, just by leaving out the words that were unnecessary in the first place. It also ensures that there are characters listed for the reader to understand. A lot of sentences seem to forget the characters, which makes the reader search to see who thesentence is even about. By using Williams' requirements though, you are not changing the way you write to your audience. This will shorten your sentences, but not as Williams said, "into Dick–and–Jane sentences. (25) This only allows the writer to be more to the point which will eliminate most of the fancy words and will automatically shorten the sentences. If you like the longer sentences though, Williams does not say you have to follow this rule exactly as it is written. As long as from the beginning to the end of your sentence there is a whole understanding of everything in between. This I believe is important, because many writers feel that if you are going to be clear then you must be short and to the point, but Williams allows you the flexibility to write as you find comfortable, as long as the reader finds it comfortable as well. Another point on clarity that all the authors bring up is the importance of the flow of your sentences. Your sentences may be clear, but if they do not flow into the next one then there is no point in being clear. You need to make sure that each sentence is treated individually and then put together Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. I Am A Great Writer I'm a great writer. Writing is something that comes naturally to me. I don't even have to think about it most of the time. Being able to communicate through writing is important with any career, especially management. I am very creative as well. Ever since I was a kid, I've always been into drawing, music, and coming up with new ideas. I am very motivated and I know how to lead teams. For example, in my Business Ethics class I took it upon myself led a semi–dysfunctional team and we achieved a good grade in the class. I am also a perfectionist, which is good but can easily backfire on me. Where I See My Management Weaknesses One of my weaknesses might be that I'm an introvert. To address the introvert/extravert issue; I'd say I'm more of an introvert. Some of my favorite authors including Zig Ziglar and Grant Cardone identify themselves as introverts although they come across as strong extraverts. Mr. Ziglar said something that made me want to get into sales. He said that introverts make better salespeople because they can relate to the customer better, research what the customer wants, and adopt characteristics that an extravert has. On my spare time I read books like "Sell or be sold" by Grant Cardone, "See you at the top" by Zig Ziglar, "Live your dreams" by Les Brown, and of course "The War of Art" by Steven Pressfield. All of which motivate me and make me a better person. I view success as my obligation, duty, and responsibility and I believe it is dangerous to be Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 5. What Makes A Good Writer? The most important thing that a piece "good" writing does is make people question where they stand on certain topics. This is the most important thing because when you question things you learn more, and when learn more you will be able to teach more. When you read something you do not want to just read it and not learn anything from it, then there would have been no purpose in reading it. Writers do not just write papers so they can tell the reader what is right or wrong. They write to explain their theory, to make others understand where they are coming from and the logic behind them. A writer can accomplish composing a "good" piece of writing by making sure he has logical reasoning behind their statements, by making it noticeable when they transition into explaining another point, and when by not letting their personal feelings be put ahead of their logical reasons, and by making the reader question them. These are not only important for the author but it is also important for the reader. If a author does not have a logical reasoning behind his statements than the reader can not take it as a credible source and they will most likely not believe it. Transitions are a huge part of good writing also because if a reader can not tell when your last point ends and the next one starts...show more content... Many people read for fun but they are also learning while doing it. They are learning new words and expanding their vocabulary. Learning is a necessity in life and people learn the most by reading. Reading is an everyday activity and if an author writes something people expect to learn from it. It also makes the author learn. While writing the author is putting his skills to use. By doing that they are keeping their brain function high and they are getting relieving themselves from any medical issues that come with age and affect the brain. This being true that is an effect from writing you can learn from reading it and from writing Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 6. I Am A Good Writer I have never been a good writer as far as I can remember. It has always been that way, no matter what strategies I have employed to improve my writing ability be it making an outline or planning out the paper in any way. It didn't matter if I was doing a research paper, a reflective essay or even a personal narrative. The writing that I had done in middle school and high school was by far the worst of it. When I was little, I used to love writing. I would write about anything from dragons to adventures in space, and most of the time it wasn't in any way related to school at all. I used to love writing because I could write about whatever I wanted and had no one to tell me that it was poorly written and no one to give me a bad grade on it. It wasn't until I started to have to write papers for school that I began to dislike writing. I remember when I was ten, I wrote a story about two dragons fighting off hordes of knights attempting to steal the dragons gold for the corrupt king. No one told me that I had to write a story, I wrote it on my own time over the summer and I loved every minute that I was writing. I wrote almost every day, but now that I started to get bad grades on something that I worked so hard on and being told I was an abysmal writer, it began to discourage me and push me away from the enjoyment I used to have when writing. I was a sub–par writer all throughout my time going to school, but it was the worst in my senior year of high school. I went Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 7. Guidelines For A Strong Essay Guidelines to a strong essay You might be wondering why it is important to write a strong essay I can give a few reasons. It is important to write essays because it helps to further develop your writing skills. If you continue to write essays, journals etc. you learn to express yourself, by not physically saying anything which can be hard. Everyone needs to know the process to writing a strong essay, because you never know when you might have to do something for your job. Without utilizing these tools and remembering them could hinder your success. We use writing everyday whether it be texting, emailing or homework official and unofficial. There are six main focal points to the composing of a strong essay. To write a strong essay you need to address these six topics: Brain storming, research, audience, tone, draft and revision. Address those six points and you are on the right track to a great paper. First, step to writing a strong successful paper is to brainstorm ideas. Brainstorming is when you as the writer produce ideas or ways of solving a problem by holding a spontaneous group discussion or by scrabbling ideas. This is where you start to come up with a topic and start developing an outline for your paper. Also this is important because it can help keep your ideas and thoughts in order, when everything seems jumbled up. To effectively brainstorm you should start an outline to follow. Your outline should be spilt up in sections you would like to discuss and then Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 8. What Makes Good Writing? Essay This for me was a very hard question to answer due to the fact that its an opinion, and there are very many types of writing. Different structures, ideas, metaphors, and concepts. You have to remember to ask, whether the writing in itself is good in my point of view or not, has to answer to my specific guidelines which in your case might not be the same. The first and foremost of the many guidelines is how the author set's up the introductory sentence or better yet, the hook. If the author for example, is writing a cook–book, his first sentence should be appealing to the sense of taste. For example, If you are writing on how to bake a chocolate cake, you can sound appealing by saying, it will almost feel like you added a hint of heaven...show more content... Obviously the reader wont stay keyed in if you aren't, but I'm talking about making sense in a way where the reader can relate to you. Give an example of a situation that most people go through in everyday life. The main idea that authors need to keep with them is the power of the authors words relays only upon the reader. Another huge element in good writing is production. You can be interesting, you can sound great, but if your story is just not headed anywhere the reader will eventually lose focus and move on. Even if you have many details surrounding your story, try to focus in on the ones that play key roles. A lot of readers talk about how something happened more then why. I like to hear the reasons for why rather then for how because if you already know the climax of the story you really wouldn't wanna track your steps back, though informing the reader why can actually spice things up. The biggest factor that plays in good writing in my opinion is how much emotion the writer puts into his or her work. Honestly, a good reader will be able to tell how much effort was put into a writing from the first couple of sentences. If the reader gets a sense of the writing trying to force words into a sentence or trying to stretch out a page you will lose your reader right then and there. If you honestly believe in what you are writing and have interest in the subject matter the reader will be able to read between the lines and actually have a feeling of being there, Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 9. My Best Day Essay : My Perfect Day Have you ever wondered what a perfect day would be like? An everyday routine starts to get annoying and boring, especially if you don't get a day off. At the moment, my routine is to wake up early, get ready for school, go to school, and after a long day come back home. From the time I get home which is around two in the afternoon and by the time I go to sleep, it all consists of doing homework. Sometimes I wish I can at least take a day off and relax, with having no worries. The idea of a perfect day for me should be a day to get rid of stress, and should be an unforgettable day. As the sun started to come out, I knew it was time to start my day. The perfect day that I've always dreamed of was going to be today. I looked at my ...show more content... In the meantime, while I was waiting for my food to get here I went to the kitchen to wash the dishes that I left in the morning. After my food got delivered I went back into my bed and started eating my orange chicken with rice. By that time, I was already in the fourth movie, all of a sudden it was really dark outside, but I was not scared at all, even though I was home alone. Now it was around ten at night and I had finished watching the Halloween series. I turned my tv off and started playing really loud music on my speaker. I knew it was nighttime and the neighbors might complain, but at the moment I didn't care about anything. I enjoy listening to depressing songs specially from Coldplay which gets me in the mood to cry. My eyes began to close so I turned my speaker off as well as the light and I went to sleep. At last, a perfect day for me should be different from any ordinary day, and should enjoy it like as if it was my last. I see a perfect day as not something outstanding, but more of like a lazy day. This day was one of the best days I've ever had because it's been forever since I've taken a break. Many people might do something like this on a regular day, but for me it was one of the days where I got to stay in bed, relax, and let all of the stress out. Days like this doesn't hurt and everyone has their own ideal day, but for me is all about being comfortable. As long as, I have a day off Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 12. Essay about How To Be A Good Employee Being a good employee is essential in today's world, especially in these tough economic times when there are many seeking work. Consequently, it is important to keep in mind that no employee is irreplaceable. While hearing many complain these days about his or her job, one just needs to look around and be thankful that they have the means in which to survive and are able to work. There are many who are not only unemployed, but also unable to perform due to illness or a disability. Sometimes when a person is feeling in a mood to complain, they may need to sit back, relax and take a look around in order to appreciate what they have, and learn how to be a good employee. Being a good employee means caring about your job and your company. In...show more content... Staying to finish the job or at least reach a stopping point will not be that much of a delay. If it is impossible to stay later, then you should plan your day more effectively Do not call in sick unless you are, or take for granted that you can call in a vacation day spontaneously. Vacations and personal time should be scheduled. When you are out, your job is delegated to others, and having to take on unexpected responsibilities without being prepared can affect production or productivity, as well cause stress and conflict among others. Be that employee who, when someone asks you to do something, will feel confident that the job will be done, and done right, without a doubt. Dependability goes a long way in the workforce, and having the reputation of being the employee that everyone can count on is a compliment. *Be respectful This means to respect others as you would want them to respect you. If you ask someone for help and they concur, do not steal the credit for their work. On the other hand, if what they helped you with is unintentionally wrong, do not blame them or yell at them, as they were only trying to help you out. Never cut someone else down in front of others, yell at them or point out their bad qualities. Do not gossip, or fall in to the trap of one who does. Gossip can destroy a person and ruin their career, and is something that is easy to fall in to. *Use time wisely Plan your day, have an agenda of things to

  • 14. What is Good? Essay What is Good? Good, a word used by all, but most not truly knowing what the true concept of good actually is. What is good? Good, in my own understanding, entails an act or statement that is, not only morally and perceptively correct in the eyes of others, but also in one's own eyes. There is a sense of accomplishment; a sense of achievement felt when something good has been done. This feeling usually does not only pertain to the individual, but also to those around him who might have benefited in one way or another from his/her good deed or statement. It is important to note that morals only apply to individual action and consequence. Ethics, however, apply to the actions of two or more people. Ethics are meaningless unless...show more content... Good can be thought of as situations in which one is found to have more pleasure in his/her life due to the occurrence of that specific event. One can receive more pleasure in life by getting a new job. A new job would give someone money and the opportunity to do more things that would add pleasure to their life. An example of this in my life would be a job I just recently got in which I am now making more money than I was at my old job. With this job, I now have more money to do more things that will help to bring more pleasure in my life. I will never be able to do all things that I would like to do and this is where Plato's idea of good being unattainable is demonstrated. Something that is unachievable would seem to have different opinions based on different personal beliefs. There are the ethical and moral stands on each issue and oneself and the people around them determine this sense of good by acknowledging the ethical and moral standpoints and determining what is more important to them regarding their decision. If something makes you and the people around you happy, then what happened to cause this occurrence was good. For instance, scoring the game–winning touchdown in a football game is good because your whole team will be happy about that touchdown and about winning the game. Another instance of this would be talking to your best friend after he/she just heard some bad news and cheering them up is good. Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 15. Saying Goodbye Essay I never thought this day would come. I mean, I did know it was coming, but I just never thought it would be this soon. Since birth, Lina has been my older sister, my companion, my confidant, and moreover, my best friend. As years passed, I acknowledged that we were getting older, and that the date of her departure was getting closer, yet, I did not want to believe it. Since last year, she had been in the exhausting process of applying to universities, and by the end of May, the University of New Orleans (UNO) granted her with a generous scholarship. With a smile full of pride and amazement, she accepted the scholarship and reserved her space in the Psychology field in the UNO. Overshadowed by the great news of her scholarship, we failed to...show more content... Suddenly, she stood up and a warm smile lightened her face. Her eyes shone with excitement as her three best friends approached her. They talked and laughed zealously; they joked as if they had forgotten what was about to happen in less than an hour. I could not help myself from watching her. Her smile was genuine and her sight deep. Her voice was melodic while she recounted all the anecdotes the four girls had shared for six long years. She moved her hands while she talked and showed her perfectly white teeth while she laughed. There was no fear in her face, just a spark of adventure glistened at the corner of her eyes. She was about to undertake a journey to the small state of Louisiana, to the beautiful jazz city of New Orleans, and even at the verge of starting a new life on her own, she showed no signs of anxiety or uneasiness. There were so many reasons why not to cry: she was happy, she was young, she had a great opportunity to study abroad, something not everyone has, and many more that would take me a whole day to mention. However, I only needed one reason why to cry: I would no longer have her by my side. As a tremendous storm, an urge of crying overwhelmed me, and all I could do was to sit down, hide my face in my hands and let my emotions overpower me. She looked at me and frowned. I knew it hurt her to see me that way, but I couldn't stop. She came near me and hugged me, without saying a word. What Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 16. What Makes A Good Person? Essay If you asked a random person on the street "what is a good person?" or "what is the good life?" you would likely receive a different answer from everyone. These answers would be different because everyone has their own ideas and opinions of what the answers should be. For many, a good person is someone who lives a good life, is a Christian, or someone who helps other individuals. For some, a good person might be someone who puts others first and someone who is reliable. The same applies to the answers you would receive from "what is the good life?" Just like everyone had different opinions on what a good person is, they will also have different opinions on what the good life is. You might get answers ranging from spending time with one's family to having a lot of money. These answers vary depending on the individuals values and world view. For some individuals this desire for money can cause them to act on it, driving them to steal in order to gain happiness. Bronk supports this idea by stating, "Our answers guide our actions, influence our decisions, and inspire our dreams" (2008, p.713). This paper will discuss how philosophers believe everyone should live and what kind of people we should be, what a good person is, what the good life is, and what the relationship between goodness and human reality is. How Ought We to Live and What Kind of People Should We Be? Individuals have different opinions on how people should live and what kind of person they should be. • 17. To Be A Good Writer Abagail DiFeo What does it mean to be a good writer? Is being a good writer something that just comes naturally to certain people? Or is being a good writer something that must be taught or learned? Personally, I feel that to be a good writer you have to really be able to think and understand what you are writing about and who you are writing for. There are many different styles of writing. Some authors write very literal and do not try to relate to their audience. Other authors write to relate and try to get their audiences to understand what it is that they are writing about. Writers while writing may form some type of process to gather ideas or organize their thoughts into cohesive text. Once given either an idea or a prompt one must think about how they will go about writing. To develop strong writing time must be taken to outline ideas, write drafts, submit revisions, and be happy with the finished product. Imagination is something good writers have when writing creative fiction or descriptive text. Writers who are able to take their audience on a journey by only using their words are some of the best writers, in my opinion. The ability to have the audience see clearly what the author wants them to see is a talent that not many have. When writing a persuasive piece good writers are able to invoke strong feelings through their text. Trying to convince someone of something is hard enough to do in person, but to be able to persuade someone through words alone is a strong writers talent. • 19. How To Write A Year Round School Essay Balanced Calendar Many Schools around the world follow this schooling schedule it makes you wonder why shouldn't we be apart of it too. The people who play their role in being apart of this schooling schedule both love and hate it at the same time. At the end of the day, year round–schools change people for better or worse the ones who hate it at first eventually change their perspective of it at the end when they notice the results in their test, and it will change how students will have to adjust their years and vacations due to smaller breaks. Year round–schooling was a schedule used around the world but throughout the years it has been making its way to the U.S. probably even to a city near you. Throughout the Harrison School District 2, many of their students were getting ready to start school again for their second school year as part of a year round school district.
