▪ Rural Youth Employment (RYE) is high on the agenda!! SEWOH,
Berlin Charta, G20, new government, EU-AU, AfDB, IFAD, etc. ! topic
is gaining a lot of momentum!!
▪ Portfolio Analysis: Only ~20% of the RD-portfolio have explicit
employment objectives / indicators (~25% have none), RYE has not yet
been on the agenda yet ! still a diverse portfolio with good practices on
approaches and measurement
▪ Hypothesis: We already achieve substantial employment effects in
RD, but often we do not measure them sufficiently! focus so far on
productivity and income
▪ Conclusion: We need to address RYE employment more strategically
in the future portfolio development, we need to know what works

Upcoming Activities
▪ RYE is one of the core topics of the further development of the “SEWOH 2.0”
and shall be integrated more systematically into the RD portfolio (with FMB)
▪ Integration of the rural employment perspective in the current GIZ Results Data
assessment (with FMB) ! see slide from Christoph Langenkamp
▪ Methodology and development of a manual / tool-kit for designing pragmatic
employment related objective and indicator systems in RD programs ! Field-
testing from Sept/Oct in 1-2 countries
▪ SNRD CoP on Rural Employment ! Needs assessment
▪ Stocktaking of current approaches at policy and project level with SNRD
▪ Joint Webinar Series (topics e.g. on decent work, VfM / cost of jobs,
