In 2025, we expanded our reach in education, civic engagement, and media
literacy, training 287 teachers, reaching over 10,600 learners, and engaging
10+ volunteers and fellows through school competitions, youth fellowships,
female-only internships, and community outreach.
Flagship initiatives in Juba and Yei reached over 14,000 pupils and
students, while The ClarityDesk platform produced 40+ fact-checks and data
stories and trained nearly 100 journalists and CSO actors, strengthening
access to credible information and civic awareness
Key lessons from the year underscored the need for stronger partnerships,
improved programme design, diversified funding, and enhanced
organisational systems.
Building on these insights, EFSS plans to scale its programmes to new
locations in 2026, strengthen youth and teacher networks, grow digital civic
education initiatives, and mobilise additional resources to sustain and
deepen its impact among young people and communities it serves.

organisation championing education support initiatives,
peacebuilding, well-being and socio-economic development.
EFSS provides education, leadership development, and
community-building initiatives to support individuals and
marginalised communities through grassroots activities
encouraging literacy, community peace, tolerance, and
development.

Dear Team, Partners, and Friends,
As 2025 ends, I extend my sincere appreciation to you for
your commitment and contribution throughout the year.
Despite the challenges faced, we have made progress
strengthening our projects, expanding operations, and
deepening our impact. Your dedication and teamwork
have been the driving force behind every milestone we
achieved. I am truly grateful for the resilience and unity
shown by our staff, partners, and supporters.
As we prepare to enter 2026, let us maintain the same
spirit of hard work, innovation, and collaboration. I believe
we are well-positioned to grow further and create lasting
value in the lives we touch.

The ClarityDesk is our media information
literacy project launched in June 2025, working
at the intersection of media integrity (fact-
checking), solutions and data journalism.
We participated in the third annual Africa Facts
Summit in Dakar, Senegal, where our Project
Manager, Jibi Moses, featured in a panel
discussion.
We have since published over 40 reports (fact-
checks, explainers and data stories) on our
Medium.com publication and conducted three
capacity building workshops for about 100 journalists
and members of the civil society.

The Yei Schools Mini Competition for
both secondary and primary schools is a
Spelling Bee, Speed Challenge Quiz,
Prepped Speech and Academic Debate
contest that ran from the 29th of
September to the 17th of October 2025.
St. Joseph Secondary School – Lutaya
and Royal School International – Spirit
Campus emerged as champions in their
respective categories.
This was conducted in partnership with Kikiji
National Orphanage Centre, the payam and
county education offices.

The school-based health awareness was piloted
in a secondary school, and three primary
schools focused on sharing best practices with
teachers, students, and pupils on the dangers of
using plastics for hot food packaging, stomach
ulcer prevention, and the value of nutritious,
healthy eating.
Under the theme: “Smart Eating, Safe Packaging – A
Healthier Future for Learners,” the project was a
targeted response to growing concerns raised by
students regarding the rising incidence of ulcers, poor
dietary habits, and the unsafe use of plastic materials
in food packaging

Talk Time with Little Scholars is a
weekly podcast designed
specifically for children to offer a
safe and engaging space for kids
to brainstorm, debate, and
discuss current affairs, education,
peacebuilding, technology, and
social life.
The podcast enables young scholars
to express their ideas, learn about
critical issues from peers, and
become active participants in their
communities.

20+ episodes have been published on both Afripods and YouTube, featuring
more than forty (40) pupils from primary and secondary schools in Juba
145 downloads on Afripods and 100+ views on YouTube

Despite a promising start and
enthusiastic engagement from students
and educators,
the competition was cut short due to an
unresolved dispute during the semifinal
stage leading to cancellation of the
remainder of the competition by the
organisation’s board.
While the outcome was disappointing, the
experience provided valuable lessons that
will inform the redesign of future
competitions, including the strengthening of
judging protocols, conflict resolution
mechanisms, and participant conduct
guidelines.

The project is organised in close
partnership with the Central Equatoria
State Ministry of General Education
and Instruction, the Directorate of
Education, Juba City Council and
participating schools, designed to
inspire and challenge primary school
pupils with an enriching experience
that shall be a unique opportunity for
them to push themselves further and
excel as South Sudanese leaders of
tomorrow.
It was partly sponsored by The
Concerned Podcast and City Brands
Company Limited.

We conducted in-house expert-led
teachers’ skills boost workshops
employing a mix of instructional
methods such as storytelling,
participant-led discussions, group
and individual exercises,
illustrations, and brain teasers to
ensure that every teacher gained
maximum knowledge and skills.
The participants were given chances
to ask questions for clarity, share
their experiences and give feedback
to the facilitators at the end of each
session.

We had the fourth, fifth and sixth
cohorts of this female-only internship
program this year.
While the fourth and sixth cohorts
worked well, the fifth cohort saw all
but one of the selected interns drop
unexpectedly.
Only 12 out of the 19 selected interns
have met all internship completion
requirements, representing a 63%
completion rate and 37% dropout rate.
We also partnered with Good Shepherd
Educational Foundation (GSEF) to
place some interns at the organisation.

To the schools we have worked with throughout the year, we are forever grateful to you:

Limited financial resources affected the scale of the community outreach
campaigns, making it difficult to reach the targeted 100 beneficiaries.
Unexpected withdrawal of six participating schools during the mini competitions in
both Yei and Juba disrupted planned schedules.
Inconsistent judging affected the fairness and credibility of some competition
rounds, especially in Juba.
Communication gaps in local partnerships that affected agreed goals and timelines
even though most deliverables were achieved.
Challenges
Challenges and Lessons Learnt

The need for continuous investment in our fundraising efforts to secure adequate
resources for projects activities implementation support.
Much as partnerships are very important, we have learnt to strengthen our
modalities for engagement with organisations that want to work with us.
It is important to invest in comprehensive training and standardized evaluation
criteria for all volunteer judges.
We have learnt to establish clearer dispute resolution mechanisms and enforce a
strict code of conduct early in our mini schools’ competitions.
