3. Masthead
My masthead follows conventions in that it is large and eye
catching, it also features at the top of the top page where
master heads usually are.
The design of the masthead is unique which is another feature
because it is important that it is recognizable to people
looking at the magazine.
The name of the master head fits with the style and content
of the front cover.
4. Masthead
I developed my original masthead idea from NME
magazine because I liked he style they use. I kept to
using a bold font with contrasting colours which is similar
to the NME style but I added graphics to E as I wanted
the masthead to be more recognizable.
With my masthead I don’t think that I have challenged
conventions as I have based my idea on other
magazines and tried to follow the forms.
5. My cover image takes
up the most of the
screen and is the focus
point of the cover.
My cover image is also
related to the content
which is typical of a
cover image.
Cover image
6. Cover image
I developed my idea for my cover
image from an NME issue that
featured Jay z, I used the size and
edits on that was used on Jay z on
mine.
With my cover image I haven’t
followed conventions necessarily as
my photo does not have eye contact
with the reader. Also on my cover the
image isn’t central to the magazine
page.
7. My cover lines follow
conventions in that I
have used larger bold
fonts to highlight
names.
The positioning is a
form of the magazine,
they usually feature on
the side of the
magazine.
Cover line
8. Cover lines
I have developed the style
of my cover lines from the
2014 NME as I like the
graphics used to make the
writing stand out more.
With my cover I haven’t
really challenged the
conventions.
9. My headline follows the conventions and forms,
the headline is a main feature on the magazine
cover.
The headline is in a large bold font which makes it
eye catching and attractive. The headline is the
artist that is the cover image which is form.
Headline
10. Headline
With my headline I didn't’ develop my idea from any
magazine although it is similar to other magazine styles.
I believe I have challenged conventions with the
graphics of the headline, I have not seen many any
magazines that had the headline around the shape of
the image.
11. The selling line is a convention of a magazine and I think I
have followed the forms in the positioning of the selling
line, they often feature at the bottom of the magazine.
Making the selling line bold and outstanding is also a
norm within a magazine as they are suppose to attract
the reading sell the magazine.
Selling line
12. Selling line
I haven’t developed my selling line from any magazine
specifically but I looked at a verity and decided on tis
sort of style that is from Q magazine.
I don’t believe I have challenged conventions with my
selling line.
14. My graphics for the features are
conventional in that I have made
the contents number bold and have
highlighted them.
My font sizes that I chose to use are
conventional, which makes it more
appealing to the eye.
The contents of all the features are
conventional, giving order of news,
latest, reviews.
Features
15. features
I developed my features ideas from
NME contents page the idea of
highlighting using graphics was
something I got from NME.
I don’t believe I have challenged the
conventions with my features.
16. I’ve only used one image on my
contents because of the style I
was trying to create.
One form is to have the image
large and have the writing
around the image which I did.
Image
17. Image
My ideas for the image were not developed from any
magazine in particular but is similar to a lot of images
from various magazines.
I believe I have challenged conventions in only using one
large image, most contents that I looked at used a few
images.
18. My page is bold and highlighted which is a normal
feature with a contents title also fits with my front cover
style and colour scheme.
Having the masthead is also a convention on the
contents page as it makes it recognizable and familiar.
Page title
19. Page title
I’ve developed my title from the NME title as I thought it
was graphically very good and also fits with the rest of
the theme of my magazine.
I don’t think I have challenged any conventions.
21. Main image
I only used one image which only
covered a part of the article as I
was going for a minimalist style.
The size of the image was
conventional.
22. I developed my ideas for the image of my article from Q
magazines style where they often have single image
articles that take up majority of the page space.
I have possibly been unconventional with the simplicity
of my article as they often have more stuff.
Main image
23. The Article title is ‘The come back of Harry Evans’ I kept
with a very minimalist style, doing this by keeping the font
simple and bold and only using black and white.
I kept to conventions with the content of the title, often
have a bit of information that will attract you to read the
article, in this case ‘The come back’ makes people want
to read more.
Article title
24. I didn’t develop my title from any magazine in particular
but I had looked at various minimalist articles and had
decided that I wanted to have a simple tidy title.
I think that with my article title I haven’t challenged
conventions.
Article Title
25. Pull quote
My pull quote ‘I will be better than ever’ is typical as it
relates to the article and is designed to attract you to the
article, as it gives a little bit of information away which
attracts the reader.
The positioning of the quote is different as it features at
the top of the article rather than in it, its also shorter than
a lot of magazines would use.
26. Conclusion
For the most of my magazine work I think that I have
followed the forms and conventions for a magazine.
In some parts I have challenged conventions when I have
wanted to show a certain style in the magazine.
