  • 9. Archion  ©  2015   9     Step  2  –  Installing  the  Drives     1. Take  out  the  drives  from  the  box  and  the  antistatic  bags.         2. Push  the  lock  button  on  the  front  of  the  drive  tray  to  open  the  latch.  Repeat  for  all  the   drives  and  leave  latches  in  the  open  position.             Hardware  Setup:   Press  button  to   open  latch   Open  latch  when   inserting  the   drives.

Insert  the  drives  with  the  open  latches  into  the  slots  according  to  the  drive  slot   locations  shown  below.     1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 20 21 22 23 24                   Number  of  Drive   should  match  the   drive  slot  drive.

Once  all  the  drives  are  inserted  with  the  latches  open,  close  the  latches  on  all  of  the   drives,  and  make  sure  the  drives  are  properly  sealed.         6. (Optional)  Repeat  Step  2  for  the  Expansion  chassis.         Step  3  –  Direct  Connection       1. Expansion  chassis     1. Connect  all  2  power  cables.     2. Connect  the  12  gb  SAS  connector  to  the  right  slot  of  the  expansion  chassis.     (Note:  the  top  slot  is  for  the  host,  and  the  bottom  slot  is  for  the  chain.)     Hardware  Setup:     Connect  the  12  gb   SAS  cable  to  the   right  slot  of  the   expansion  chassis.     Note:  Right  slot  is     for  the  host  and  the   left  slot  is  for  the   chain.     Power  Supply

(Optional)  Connect  the  monitor  to  the  VGA  port.  Connect  the  mouse  and  the   keyboard  to  either  the  PS/2  or  USB  ports.     2. Connect  all  2  power  cables.     3. Follow  the  EditStor  Omni  diagram  to  connect  the  fiber.                   3. Switch  (Optional)     1. Connect  fiber  cable  to  the  switch  and  EditStor  Omni.     2. Connect  Ethernet  cable  to  the  switch  and  client.                           Power  Supply   Quad  10GE     Fiber  port   Connect  12  gb   SAS  cable  to   Expansion.   Note:  the  top  slot  is   for  the  host,  and  the   bottom  slot  is  for  the   chain   USB  Mouse  and   Keyboard   VGA  Monitor   The  EditStor  Omni  comes   with  a  Quad  10Gig  Ethernet   NIC,  connect  the  fiber  cable   in  this  SFP+  transceiver   port.     1Gig  Ethernet  ports  for  client  machines.   10GE-­‐1GE    Copper   ports  (192.168.1.220   default)     (Optional)   Dual  40GE   card  
  • 13. Archion  ©  2015   13     Step  4  –  Powering  Up     1. Expansion  chassis     1. If  expansion  is  present,  follow  power  on/off  sequence  below.         Power  ON/OFF  Sequence     Startup:   1.    Turn  on  the  EXPANSION  chassis  first  using  the  power  button  on  the  front  of  the  chassis.   2.    Wait  2  minutes  for  all  drives  to  spin  up  in  the  EXPANSION  chassis.   3.    Push  the  power  button  once  on  the  EditStor  MAIN  engine  in  the  front  panel.       Shutdown:   1.    In  the  EditStor  MAIN  engine  GUI,  go  to  Maintenance  -­‐>  shutdown  and  scroll  down  to  “system   shutdown”  -­‐>  click  on  shutdown  button.   2.    After  the  EditStor  MAIN  engine  is  physically  shutdown,  then  shutdown  the  Expansion   chassis  by  using  the  power  button  on  the  front  of  the  chassis.                           Hardware  Setup:   Switch  On/Off

Press  on  the  power  button  on  the  front  of  the  chassis.         The  EditStor  Omni  will  take  1  –  2.5  minutes  during  the  bootup  stages.    If  a  monitor  is  connected  to   the  EditStor  EO,  you  will  see  the  Bios  bootup  and  then  the  EditStor  Omni  logo.    Once  the  system  is   fully  loaded,  you  will  see  the  main  console  showing  all  of  the  network  ports.           3. Switch   1. Connect  the  power  cable  (1)  to  power  on  the  switch.                                           Press  once  to   power  on;  press   twice  to  shutdown.   Plug  in  power  cable   to  power  the   switch.

Check  network  configuration.   EditStor  Omni  is  pre-­‐configured  with  a  default  IP  address  from  either  the  primary  10Gig   Ethernet  port.           1. Open  browser  to  192.168.1.220  (default  IP)  and  accept  any  certification  or   agreement  to  bypass  the  warnings.  (Note:  Internet  Explorer  users  please  use   compatible  view.)     2. Choose  “Full  Access”  and  type  ‘archion’  as  password  and  click  “LOGIN.”     3. To  see  the  network  configuration,  click  SETUP  -­‐>  network  -­‐>Interfaces  page.     4. Scroll  down  to  “Create  new  bond  interface”  window.   This  window  shows  the  connected  ports.    If  a  port  is  in  use,  the  port  will  read  as   “cable”  under  Cable  column.       Software  Configuration:  
  • 16. Archion  ©  2015   16       (OPTIONAL)  Add  a  New  Connection  in  EditStor  Omni  ports     5. Connect  either  a  10Gig  Ethernet  cable  or  1Gig  Ethernet  cable.     6. Click  reload    button  to  see  the  cable  status  change  to  cable.     7. On  the  left  side  pane,  click  the  new  Ethernet  port  that  is  in  use.     8. Edit  and  input  the  changes.    Note:  Each  port  must  have  different  IP  range.     9. Click  “apply.”       Ethernet  ports  list.   Click  on  an  Ethernet   port  to  configure  the   port’s  IP  address  and   network  properties.   Cable  column  displays  if  a   cable  is  connected  to  the   Network  Interface  Card  ports.   Requirements  for  every   Ethernet  ports  are  unique  IP   range  and  a  subnet  mask.  
  • 17. Archion  ©  2015   17     Step  6  –  Creating  a  Logical  Volume       EditStor  Omni  is  pre-­‐configured  with  one  logical  volume  as  an  example.     1. In  the  Omni  WebGUI,  go  to  CONFIGURATION  -­‐>  volume  manager  -­‐>  Vol.  groups  page.     2. On  the  left  side  pane,  click  on  the  default  volume  group  “vg00.”     3. Scroll  down  to  “Volume  manager“  window;  choose  “new  NAS  volume”  in  the  “Action”   drop  down  menu.     4. Add  the  storage  GB  size  for  the  logical  volume  by  moving  the  scroll  bar  or  typing  in  the   size  value  in  the  “add”  box.       5. Click  apply         Software  Configuration:   Logical  volumes   created.   Tree  list  of  volume   group.    vg00  (default)   Size  of  the  logical   volumes.    Click  on  the  X   icon  to  delete  the   logical  volume.   “Action”  menu  to  add   new  NAS  logical   volume  or  increase  an   existing  logical  volume.   Line  bar  to  set  the   size  of  the  logical   volume.   “Add”  box  to   input  the  value  of   the  size  of  the   logical  volume.

In  the  Omni  WebGUI,  go  to  CONFIGURATION  -­‐>  NAS  resources  -­‐>  Shares  page.   In  “Create  new  share”  window,  type  in  the  share  name  and  choose  the  logical  volume   you  created  in  Step  5  by  clicking  on  that  share  in  the  “Default  path”  drop  down  menu.   Note:  There  should  only  be  one  share  per  logical  volume.           Software  Configuration:   List  of  shares.    Click  a   share  to  edit  the  share  ‘s   configuration.   Drop  down  menu  to  choose   the  logical  volume  path  for   the  share.   List  of  users.    Click  a  user  to   edit  the  user’s  configuration.   List  of  groups.    Click  a  group  to   edit  the  group’s  configuration.

Choose  the  Drive  letter.     4. Type  in  the  IP  address  of  the  EditStor  Omni  in  “Folder”  box.   i.e.  192.168.1.220  (default)     5. Click  “Browse”  and  choose  the  share  name  under  the  IP  address.   A  login  window  will  appear  if  the  share  requires  an  account.     6. Click  “Ok.”     PC  –  Windows  XP     1. Click  “Connect”  and  a  list  of  share  names  will  appear  for  the  login  you  choose  (or  the   account  of  guest).       Best  Practices   Daily                  Check  Event  Viewer                                      for  warnings  and  errors.                  Monthly                Delete  old  logs.    STATUS  >  HARDWARE  >  Logs  Window  and  click  remove.     Quarterly   Check  Statistics  for  system  load,  filesystems,  misc,  network  and  memory.     STATUS  >  Statistics.  By  reading  the  statistics,  you  will  be  aware  of  your   workflow  traffic  and  user  usage.     Check  Logical  volume  size.    STATUS  >  logical  volume.    Logical  volumes  should   be  below  90%.     Settings  and  Configuration  change   Each  time  you  change  the  settings  and  configuration  (add  users,  add  shares,  any   changes  in  the  EditStor  GUI)  backup  locally  and  download  the  file.     For  local  backup:  MAINTENANCE  >  miscellaneous  >  Save  settings  and  check   SETUP  and  CONFIGURATION  box  and  check  Save  locally.    Click  apply  and  it   will  create  a  new  file  under  Restore  settings  window.       For  download:  MAINTENANCE  >  miscellaneous  >  Save  settings  and  check  SETUP  and   CONFIGURATION  box  and  check  Download.  Click  apply  and  it  will  download  one  file  that  will   have  both  setup  and  configuration.
