QUESTION 3- WHAT HAVE YOU LEANT FROM
YOUR AUDIENCE FEEDBACK?
Paragraph 1
 Its highly important to collect as much audience feedback as possible
when it comes to pre-production of large projects such as new film
making and release. Examples of films which had huge success from
campaigning and audience research was The Woman in Black. When it
came to movie budget it was estimated at 15 million, but when it came
to the Box office it made a large sum of 128.5 million, over 4 times more
than the original budget. The Woman in Black made as of from June
2012 has made $127,730,736 worldwide. This could be thanked by
several reasons, one is from the favourable main starring actor Daniel
Radcliffe who got involved with many mini projects which were all to do
with the upcoming release of The Woman in Black which was Radcliffe’s
next big thing after the famous film series of Harry Potter. Just by this
evidence you can just see how important audience research and
feedback is to new projects, so people can understand what people
want from new movies to reach its full potential for viewers.
Paragraph 2
 I gathered audience feedback through different methods. The first was at the
beginning for pre-production where we conducted a survey for people to
answer on what type of horror films they watch and what sort of things they
wish to see in the upcoming project. The second was through a class screening
of our rough-cut trailer which was where I could receive both positive and
constructive criticism. In total I got roughly 20 responses from the whole class
which both informed and helped us to go back and improve our trailer in ways
to approve that specific target audience. The third method was through
gathering feedback for my final cuts of my film poster and magazine front
cover. Again, I got both positive and constructive criticism which enabled me
to see through the viewers point of view. This was all gathered from outside of
lesson from my fellow peers who took time to review both of my products and
assess on what they thought was good and what they thought could be
improved.

title="Questionnaire analysis">Questionnaire analysis</a> </strong> from <strong><a

 From this feedback we were able to find what type of horror film to create
and what sort of prices and things to really look into and consider. From
this the group were able to decide on what type of target audience we
were working with.
Written Feedback for Magazine and
horror poster
Here I have my written feedback taken from 6 individuals all
from the same age group assessing my horror poster and
horror magazine. This feedback was very useful as it enabled
me to have an outside opinion from viewers. The most
frequent response from my magazine which they liked was
“The style and colour”. A frequent comment made when it
came to the magazine improvements was to use up more
space, and not having so much blank space for the front cover.
When it came to my horror film poster the most frequent thing
mentioned for something that went well for the it was the
picture, and how the “Silhouette works well”.. This clearly
makes this more effective for my viewers. Something which
could be an improvement which I will take on board is the Tag
Line, it could be more bolder to “grab viewers attention”. All
this feedback has helped me to go back and look at my work
and adjust it to the liking of both me and from the viewers. I
believe that taking answers all from the same age group
helped as this was the type of age group the film would have
been aimed for and to get direct responses from a direct
target audience makes the outcome feedback more useful.

Paragraph 3
 We got a variety of feedback but we noticed that certain aspects came up when it
came to receiving back our feedback for our rough cut trailer. Going through the
written feedback from the class the most frequent improvement was the seagull sound
effects at the beginning of the trailer and the editing could of been a lot smoother. In
addition another one was the jump-scare was timed wrong and did not have the same
effect as a professional horror trailers do. However, from positive feedback we found it
helpful that many could understand the rough idea of the plot and the variety of shot
types worked well with the trailer, and also expressed our knowledge on the camera
skills which the professionals do. I think this was a useful way to gather a response
because there was a larger audience to respond, also they were all of the same age
group which was the direct target audience for our trailer. In addition, because there
was a large number of responses there was more to take on board and reconsider to
improve our work.
Paragraph 4
 The feedback I received for my poster and magazine really helped, and I
took all the responses on board to improve both. I made a few edits on my
poster and added more cover lines on my magazine front cover to remove
some of the blank space which took up the majority of the front cover. For
our trailer we immediately removed the over powering sound effects, as
well as improving the editing to make the piece more smoother. We also
decided to go out a film a bit extra to get more footage to create a more
scarier aspect to it, because the trailer slightly lacks it.

Media studies evaluation question 3

  • 1. Media Studies Evaluation QUESTION 3- WHAT HAVE YOU LEANT FROM YOUR AUDIENCE FEEDBACK?
  • 2. Paragraph 1  Its highly important to collect as much audience feedback as possible when it comes to pre-production of large projects such as new film making and release. Examples of films which had huge success from campaigning and audience research was The Woman in Black. When it came to movie budget it was estimated at 15 million, but when it came to the Box office it made a large sum of 128.5 million, over 4 times more than the original budget. The Woman in Black made as of from June 2012 has made $127,730,736 worldwide. This could be thanked by several reasons, one is from the favourable main starring actor Daniel Radcliffe who got involved with many mini projects which were all to do with the upcoming release of The Woman in Black which was Radcliffe’s next big thing after the famous film series of Harry Potter. Just by this evidence you can just see how important audience research and feedback is to new projects, so people can understand what people want from new movies to reach its full potential for viewers.
  • 3. Paragraph 2  I gathered audience feedback through different methods. The first was at the beginning for pre-production where we conducted a survey for people to answer on what type of horror films they watch and what sort of things they wish to see in the upcoming project. The second was through a class screening of our rough-cut trailer which was where I could receive both positive and constructive criticism. In total I got roughly 20 responses from the whole class which both informed and helped us to go back and improve our trailer in ways to approve that specific target audience. The third method was through gathering feedback for my final cuts of my film poster and magazine front cover. Again, I got both positive and constructive criticism which enabled me to see through the viewers point of view. This was all gathered from outside of lesson from my fellow peers who took time to review both of my products and assess on what they thought was good and what they thought could be improved.
  • 4. Pre-Production Questionnaire and Responses Link  <iframe allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="485" marginheight="0" marginwidth="0" scrolling="no" src="//www.slideshare.net/slideshow/embed_code/key/ECJ53IuASigkuv" style="border-width: 1px; border: 1px solid #ccc; margin-bottom: 5px; max-width: 100%;" width="595"> </iframe> <br />  <div style="margin-bottom: 5px;">  <strong> <a href="https://www.slideshare.net/ellenbrown12/questionnaire-analysis-69874570" target="_blank" title="Questionnaire analysis">Questionnaire analysis</a> </strong> from <strong><a href="https://www.slideshare.net/ellenbrown12" target="_blank">ellen brown</a></strong> </div>  From this feedback we were able to find what type of horror film to create and what sort of prices and things to really look into and consider. From this the group were able to decide on what type of target audience we were working with.
  • 5. Written Feedback for Magazine and horror poster Here I have my written feedback taken from 6 individuals all from the same age group assessing my horror poster and horror magazine. This feedback was very useful as it enabled me to have an outside opinion from viewers. The most frequent response from my magazine which they liked was “The style and colour”. A frequent comment made when it came to the magazine improvements was to use up more space, and not having so much blank space for the front cover. When it came to my horror film poster the most frequent thing mentioned for something that went well for the it was the picture, and how the “Silhouette works well”.. This clearly makes this more effective for my viewers. Something which could be an improvement which I will take on board is the Tag Line, it could be more bolder to “grab viewers attention”. All this feedback has helped me to go back and look at my work and adjust it to the liking of both me and from the viewers. I believe that taking answers all from the same age group helped as this was the type of age group the film would have been aimed for and to get direct responses from a direct target audience makes the outcome feedback more useful.

  • 7. Paragraph 3  We got a variety of feedback but we noticed that certain aspects came up when it came to receiving back our feedback for our rough cut trailer. Going through the written feedback from the class the most frequent improvement was the seagull sound effects at the beginning of the trailer and the editing could of been a lot smoother. In addition another one was the jump-scare was timed wrong and did not have the same effect as a professional horror trailers do. However, from positive feedback we found it helpful that many could understand the rough idea of the plot and the variety of shot types worked well with the trailer, and also expressed our knowledge on the camera skills which the professionals do. I think this was a useful way to gather a response because there was a larger audience to respond, also they were all of the same age group which was the direct target audience for our trailer. In addition, because there was a large number of responses there was more to take on board and reconsider to improve our work.
  • 8. Paragraph 4  The feedback I received for my poster and magazine really helped, and I took all the responses on board to improve both. I made a few edits on my poster and added more cover lines on my magazine front cover to remove some of the blank space which took up the majority of the front cover. For our trailer we immediately removed the over powering sound effects, as well as improving the editing to make the piece more smoother. We also decided to go out a film a bit extra to get more footage to create a more scarier aspect to it, because the trailer slightly lacks it.
