2. Richard Dawson- Scanography
Richard Dawson is a Scanography photographer from the east end of London. He focuses on scanning
objects on a flat bed scanner. Dawson is popular for using food and plants in his scanography after he
studied fine art at art school in London.
Techniques: To do scanography the first thing you must have is a flat bed scanner. The techniques to this is
placing what you want to scan down on the scanner flat. The scanner will then scan the object and upload it
the computer that you are working on. To create the creative and interetesting images photographers will
move the object as it is being scanner and merge different objects together. This technique creates the low
depth and the high quality of the outcome image.
This type of photography uses non traditional ways because instead of using a camera it uses a scanner
which is an untraditional way of creating photography.
This is contemporary as Dawson is still alive and still making scanography in 2014. He is still studying the art
and he continues to create the images using different objects like food and plants. The technology that is
used is still contemporary as it is still new to our generation and it is only just becoming a popular method.
Where they can be seen: Dawson has displayed work for his Art college in the past which has been
presented in the college at college art shows. They have also been in galleries across London and some of his
flower photography has been used as record covers. These record covers have been sold worldwide.

4. David Hockney- Photomontage
David Hockney is a painter, printer and photographer. He lives in Bridlington Yorkshire and he is most famous
for his photomontage photography.
Techniques: The techniques to this method are taking photos with his camera. He would use a Polaroid or a
standard film camera. He would take close up shots of what he was shooting then after he had take them he
would put them all together to create one large image that had different levels.
This is not a traditional way of producing images as he uses a technique to create an image with lots of small
images.
These techniques are historical as the technique of the collage is an historical technique. However the way it
is made is contemporary as modern technology we can use to create this style of photography. We can do
this work digitally which makes it contemporary to us now.
Hockney has displayed his work in many galleries in the UK and America. He also has art books published
about this work and what he does. He publishes his art work in these books for people to see.

6. Jerry Uelsmann- Multi Exposure
Jerry Uelsmann is an American photographer from Detroit. He experiments with Multi Exposure images.
He has won awards for his work as it is something very unique.
Techniques. For a multi exposure shot you need two images, These two image will combine togther to make
one really interesting image. The two images will be contrasted so it creates a really creative and eye
catching photo.
Traditional because Uelsmann uses a camera to shoot the images he does not use any other devices which
are non traditional.
This type of photography has been used historically to remove people out of photographs. For example it
was used a lot after world war 2 to remove images of Hitler. However it is also used now which can make it
contemporary as we can create multi exposure shots digitally, by layering the images on programmes on
computers such as Photoshop
This work by Uelsmann can be see in Art Galleries across the world. He is very popular for what he does so
many art galleries show his work for people interested to see. He has been included in many shows across
the world. He is also featured in the Chicago institution of Art and the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
