2. The majority of my potential
audience is male, meaning
my content would be
adapted to suit this. This
would include female artists
and men to aspire to.
3. 90% of my potential audience are aged
between 16 and 24. This young
demographic means that the magazine
will feature festivals and music
venues/gigs to appeal to them.
4. All of the respondents answered
that they live in a Yorkshire
town/city. For this reason, the
magazine would mainly advertise
gigs and events that are in and
around this county. It may also
impact the style of writing in terms
of dialect.
5. 50% of the demographic put Indie music at
the top of their preferred genres, while 23%
chose Rock and 13% chose Pop. This will
mean that the magazine will focus on artists
from these genres, in terms of interviews,
recommendations and photo shoots.
Despite this, 35% placed Electronic/Dance
music in their top three, while 32% placed
Hip Hop/Rap in the top three. This means
that these genres will still feature, albeit
minimally.
6. 62% of the responses
placed Interviews as the
most important feature,
with 37% placing music
recommendations as the
second most important
feature. The magazine will
therefore focus on these
two features, however, the
other features will still be
included to keep a broader
appeal.
7. 70% of the respondents said they
would be willing to pay between £3
and £4 for each issue; because 25%
said they would only pay between £1
and £2, the cover price would be set
at £2.60 to make the price seem fairer
on both sides.
8. 81% said they were not currently
subscribed to a music magazine,
however, out of those who are, 50%
were subscribed to Kerrang! Meaning
that I will apply similar techniques to
draw readers in.
9. 71% of the demographic said they
would prefer a monthly magazine.
For this reason, my magazine will be
monthly, however, for the 29% that
said weekly, there will be an extra
issue at the end of each season,
making 16 issues a year.
10. 47% of the respondents said that
they would be attracted to the
magazine by freebies, so this will be
a unique selling point of my
magazine. For the 33% that
responded with competitions, there
will be small scale competitions every
month for things including tickets and
t-shirts, larger competitions will be in
the seasonal issues.
11. 65% said that they preferred to
listen to music rather than playing,
this means that the magazine will
strongly focus on appealing to the
average listener. This includes
things like music
recommendations instead of
music products (e.g.
microphones, guitars).
