2. Action films tend to appeal more to a
male audience.This is generally
because stereotypically, men are the
one’s that are drawn to ‘violent’ and
action-packed films. Action films
generally contain some aspects of
blood and death which stereotypically
puts women off those types of films
whereas men are quite into that. Let’s
face it, you wouldn’t take you spouse or
girlfriend to watch ‘Die Hard’ or ‘Bad
Boys’ would you!
Gender: Males
3. Age: 15 – 45 year olds
Most male teenagers and young male
adults love a good adrenalin burst and
excitement. So watching a movie/film
filled with action which is sure to get
you out of your seat and on the edge of
your feet would appeal to those who
have not yet quite reached adulthood.
This interest in the action genre could
continue into adulthood, extending the
age range into the 40+ zone. However,
sometimes adults prefer to ‘slow down’
from then, which means we have lost
those aged 50+. Action films appeal to
the younger generation, making them
the majority and the primary audience.
4. Income Brackets: B – C2, and E
• These income brackets mean that they range from middle class (B),
to skilled working class (C2). I have also included E because
students may enjoy the film and may want to watch action films.
Based on the income brackets that my target audience are in,
possible jobs may include graphic designers, teachers, clerical
workers, plumber, electricians, and those in the income bracket E,
students.
• Usually, an action film targets the middle class at around the C
level. However, due to the injection of aspects of a comedy genre
perhaps, the bracket is expanded to include those who enjoy the
film for it’s more intellectual and challenging material.
5. Example of target audience
This is a stereotypical example
of the target audience that I am
aiming at for my film opening.
This is because he is from the
young generation and is a male
that looks like he from the age
range that I am aiming to.
They stereotypically wear quite
nice clothes for their age, and
are perhaps in their late teens,
and they probably have a part-
time job which gives them
disposable income.
