2. Urban problems of the present
• There are actual urban problems, which can be clearly identified and
„only” the solutions have to be found.
• These problems are the following:
– Local air pollution/smog
– Traffic problems
– Building problems
– Ecological degradation
– Urban heat balance problems (urban climate/urban heat island)
– Energy consumption problems
– Social problems
– Increasing rate of urbanisation
– Increasing difficulties of water supply
– Increasing difficulties of food supply
– Increasing vulnerability
3. • Solution: using CNG cars (existing viable technology)
Local air pollution/smog I.
4. • Solution: separation and isolation of industrial production
Local air pollution/smog II.
12. • Solution can be the usage of natural, or natural-like surfaces.
Urban heat problems II.
13. • Solution can be the usage of natural, or natural-like surfaces.
Energy consumption problems I.
14. • Solution can be building pasive houses.
Energy consumption problems II.
15. • Solution can be building pasive houses.
Social problems I.
16. • Solution can be building pasive houses.
Social problems II.
17. • Solution can be building pasive houses.
Increasing rate of urbanisation I.
18. • Solution can be building pasive houses.
Increasing rate of urbanisation II.
19. • Solution can be building pasive houses.
Increasing difficulties of water supply I.
20. • Solution can be building pasive houses.
Increasing difficulties of water supply II.
21. • Solution can be building pasive houses.
Increasing difficulties of food supply I.
22. • Solution can be building pasive houses.
Increasing difficulties of food supply I.
23. • Solution can be building pasive houses.
Increasing vulnerability I.
24. • Solution can be building pasive houses.
Increasing vulnerability II.
25. Urban problems of the future I.
• There are problems, which currently do not exist. But it can be
prognostized that these problems will appear in a few decades.
• These problems are the following:
– Water supply
– Food supply
– Energy supply
– Appearance of new climate types, related to urban zones.
– Increased social problems, appearance of new social structures
– Appearance of huge urban regions
– Further increasing vulnerability
26. Urban problems of the future II.
• It is important to note, that the food problem is not an existing
phenomenon. Very simply: the urban starvation is not a current
problem excepting war zones.
• Nevertheless it is sure, that energy, water and food shortage will
appear in a few years.
• There are some settlement around the world, which vulnerability is
much greater than the others because of certain reasons.
• Cities of the USA: the mean water, food and energy consumption per
capita is many times greater than in case of any other country. This is
a feature of that society. Thus, the demands of an american city is
many times greater than any other city in an other country with the
similar number of inhabitants.
• Cities of India: Probably the densest cities with the lowest rate of
public utilities. The same problem („favela” problem) appears also on
other continent.
• Singapore: special political construction: urban state, island state.
28. Water supply II.
• The problem is the density of the inhabitants and the height of
buildings. Collecting rainwater on a high level can solve problems.
29. Food supply I.
• The problem is the density of the inhabitants and the height of
buildings. Collecting rainwater on a high level can solve problems.
30. Food supply II.
• The problem is the density of the inhabitants and the height of
buildings. Collecting rainwater on a high level can solve problems.
31. New climate types.
• The problem is the density of the inhabitants and the height of
buildings. Collecting rainwater on a high level can solve problems.
32. Increased social problems
• Problem of homeless people and social inequalities is just one
segment. New environment can create new layers of society.
33. Huge urban regions
• Problem of homeless people and social inequalities is just one
segment. New environment can create new layers of society.
34. Increased vulnerability
• Problem of homeless people and social inequalities is just one
segment. New environment can create new layers of society.
