4.0 WORK EXPERIENCE
4.1 Buze Investments PTY Ltd
From May 2014 to date, I have been the managing director of Buze Investments PTY ltd. The
company deals in Supplies and Distribution as well as occasionally providing business advisory
services to SMMEs in various sectors such as construction, manufacturing, tourism and services.
4.1.1 Main duties and responsibilities:
 Overseeing the general management of the company.
 Overseeing the preparation of business plans
 Providing business management consultancy and training
 Overseeing the preparation of tenders, compliance to supply contracts with customers as
well as ensuring compliance to government procurement procedures.
 Human resource and financial management
4.2 Local Enterprise Authority (LEA)
From March 2007 to February 2013 I worked for the Local Enterprise Agency as a Branch
Manager, in Masunga and Serowe. LEA is a parastatal organisation whose mandate is to develop
Small Medium and Micro Enterprises (SMMEs) in Botswana through implementation of the
SMME Policy and the Entrepreneurship Policy. The organisation operates a network of 13
branches across the country. The branches are under the National Branch Network Division.
The job entailed Planning, organising and directing the services provided to enterprises and
entrepreneurs in the sectors of tourism, manufacturing, and agriculture as well as services.
4.2.1 Key Responsibilities and Main Tasks:
As a Branch Manager, my main responsibilities were as follows:
 Managing the Branch and ensuring that services and programmes that are
developed are customised to meet the requirements of the entrepreneurs and
enterprises in the region in order to strengthen their competitiveness.
 Conducting studies and assessments to establish a good understanding of the
business environment of the region serviced by the Branch.

 Facilitating and directing the identification of needs of the entrepreneurs and
enterprises as well as developing growth plans (strategy or business plans) for all
the enterprises assisted by the branch.
 Facilitating access to credit by SMMEs, through business plan development as
well as lobbying for relaxed funding requirements by financial institutions.
 Facilitating the provision of mentoring and advisory services
 Facilitating training of clients in order to improve their business management
skills.
 Overseeing the performance of consultants engaged to provide business advisory
services such as training and mentoring.
 Monitoring, studying and analysing the results of interventions or services
provided to clients.
 Monitoring the growth and development of enterprises under the branch.
 Undertaking field visits to all clients under the branch
 Managing a clientele of more than 120 SMMEs. This included client recruitment
as well as maintaining a good relationship with the clients through regular contact
and attending to client needs promptly.
 Administering and analysing the customer feedback questionnaire as well as
attending to customer complaints.
 Managing the image of the organization at a regional level through the provision
of publicity activities as well as standardized professional services.
 Managing the financial resource of the branch, this included budget preparation,
management accounts as well as cash management and reconciliation reports.
 Managing the procurement of all resources required for branch operation.
 Cascading the corporate strategy to the branch staff as well as providing training
on the branch balanced scorecard.
 Performance management at the branch through development of performance
targets for the branch staff in line with the corporate balanced scorecard.
Managing the scorecard risk for the branch.

 Providing feedback and reports to the National Branch Network (NBN) Director
4.2.2 Main Achievements:
 Assisted a local business (Miraculous Investment) to enter the 2012 Africa
SMMEs Awards. The client got position 3 from the whole of Africa
 25 business plans approved for funding by various financial institutions while at
Masunga branch.
 30 approved business plans at Serowe branch, the business plans ranged between
P100 000 to P2,300 000 worth of investment.
 Coordinated the development of the client management database
 A member of the taskforce that developed the monitoring and evaluation program
for the organization
 Member of benchmarking teams on SMME development programmes to
countries such as South Africa, Malaysia and Israel.
 Chaired the District Administration Tender Committee for 2years at the North
East District Council.
 I was a key member of the strategy formulation and review, which was done on
an annual basis. Therefore, I am well acquainted with strategy formulation as well
as implementation of strategy through the balanced scorecard approach.
 A member of the Enterprise Development Information System (client database)
Implementation Committee, representing the National Branch Network Division.
Trained the division staff on the use of the system.
 Coordinated activities of the National Branch Network from March 2007 to
December 2007 when there was no position for Senior Manager. This entailed
compiling information from all the thirteen branches as well as preparing reports
for the National Branch Network Director.
 Acted for the Senior Manager North position for a period of five months where I
was in charge of six branches consisting of seventy employees (70) and five
hundred (500) clients (SMMEs).

4.3 Ministry of Trade and Industry
From June 1992 to February 2007 I was working in the Project Research Unit of the Department
of Industrial Affairs in the Ministry of Trade and Industry (MTI). When I left the Department in
2007, I was the head of the Unit. The main objective of my job was facilitating the development
of the manufacturing sector.
4.3.1 Key Responsibilities and Main Tasks:
The specific duties that I was carrying out are as follows:
 Undertaking research on raw materials with the view to identifying new areas where
investment opportunities may be investigated;
 Carrying out surveys of industrial opportunities by areas and sector and preparing project
profiles and conducting pre-feasibility studies as and when necessary;
 Maintaining a library of investment studies/books and making them available to potential
investors;
 Maintaining a database of the manufacturing sector. The database contained profiles of
all manufacturing businesses in the country.
 Acting as a counterpart of external consultants commissioned to undertake industrial
projects by the Department;
 Evaluating industrial investment proposals or feasibility studies submitted to the
department by third parties and preparing appraisal reports. Additionally, I evaluate all
policy and programme development proposals;
 Analysing import statistics in order to provide guidance in the development of policies
geared towards assisting the industrial sector;
 Administering the Motor Industry Development Programme (A Southern Africa Customs
Union (SACU) programme designed to develop the motor vehicle industry in the SACU
region) and other SACU programmes. I have also been a desk officer for SACU Tariff
investigations – this entailed receiving proposals for tariff changes from other SACU
member countries and then conducting consultations with the local industry as well as
other stakeholders to determine the effect of the proposed changes on the domestic
industry and the Botswana economy at large. This also entailed receiving and addressing

notifications on investigations for uncompetitive practices such as dumping as well as
attending to infant industry protection from the various SACU members;
 Supervising staff under the Project Research Unit as well as budgeting and planning for
the activities of the unit and;
 I was a key member of the strategy formulation and review committee of the Department
and also occasionally monitored and evaluated the balanced scorecard performance of the
department.
4.3.2 Main Achievements:
 Conducted the following studies: Feasibility of establishing a Bakery in Ghanzi; Viability
of small scale textile businesses in Serowe and; Market study on Brickmoulding projects
in the Kweneng District.
 A member and Secretary of the Industrial Development Policy Implementation
Committee – the committee came up with action plans for the implementation of the
Industrial Development Policy and also monitored the implementation of the action
items.
 Coordinator of African Growth Opportunity Act (AGOA) Task Force – this was a
taskforce comprising of representatives from Botswana Export Development and
Investment Agency (BEDIA), now Botswana Investment and Trade Centre (BITC),
Department of Industrial Affairs, Department of Customs and Department of
International Trade. The taskforce investigated the allegations by the USA that some of
the local companies benefiting under AGOA were violating the regulations.
 A member of the Working group on the review of Industrial Development Policy – the
working group worked with Botswana Institute of Development and Policy Analysis
(BIDPA) on the development of the Industrial Policy.

 Reference Committee member for the Export Strategy Development of Botswana
 Coordinator of the local team that worked with Foreign Investment Advisory Services
(FIAS) consultants on the Study on Administrative Barriers to Investment in Botswana

  • 7. 7 notifications on investigations for uncompetitive practices such as dumping as well as attending to infant industry protection from the various SACU members;  Supervising staff under the Project Research Unit as well as budgeting and planning for the activities of the unit and;  I was a key member of the strategy formulation and review committee of the Department and also occasionally monitored and evaluated the balanced scorecard performance of the department. 4.3.2 Main Achievements:  Conducted the following studies: Feasibility of establishing a Bakery in Ghanzi; Viability of small scale textile businesses in Serowe and; Market study on Brickmoulding projects in the Kweneng District.  A member and Secretary of the Industrial Development Policy Implementation Committee – the committee came up with action plans for the implementation of the Industrial Development Policy and also monitored the implementation of the action items.  Coordinator of African Growth Opportunity Act (AGOA) Task Force – this was a taskforce comprising of representatives from Botswana Export Development and Investment Agency (BEDIA), now Botswana Investment and Trade Centre (BITC), Department of Industrial Affairs, Department of Customs and Department of International Trade. The taskforce investigated the allegations by the USA that some of the local companies benefiting under AGOA were violating the regulations.  A member of the Working group on the review of Industrial Development Policy – the working group worked with Botswana Institute of Development and Policy Analysis (BIDPA) on the development of the Industrial Policy.  A member of the Investment Committee  Reference Committee member for the Export Strategy Development of Botswana  Coordinator of the local team that worked with Foreign Investment Advisory Services (FIAS) consultants on the Study on Administrative Barriers to Investment in Botswana  Developed a database of Manufacturing companies in Botswana  Chairperson of the Ministerial Information Technology Committee
