 Best practice is a method or technique that
has consistently shown results superior to
those achieved with other means, and that is
used as a benchmark.
 Benchmarking is the process of comparing
one's business processes and performance
metrics to the best practices and results of
top companies.
 Innovation and Creativity
 Teamwork
 Fair Recruitment
 User feedback
 Google has focused on encouraging
creativity and innovation.
 Google engineers can spend up to 20 percent of
their time on a project of their choice. They
basically want to allow creative people to
be creative.
 Their creativity is seen through GOOGLE DOODLES.
 The Google Doodle is an artistic version of
the Google logo. Google Doodles represent events
like holidays, anniversaries, or current events.
Various innovations of Google are:-
 Google acquired Android Inc. to develop its own operating system.
Android has helped create more choice and innovation on mobile than
ever before.
 It collaborated with YouTube for making search results more efficient.
 It also innovates on Smartphone under the Google nexus series.
 Self driving car has also been developed by Google which is being tested
at Googolplex.
 On April Fools' Day in 2004, Google launched Gmail. Their approach to
email included features like speedy search, huge amounts of storage and
threaded messages.
 They launched Google Maps and Google Earth in 2005. Today Maps also
features live traffic, transit directions and street-level imagery, and
Earth lets you explore the ocean and the moon.
 In June 2011, they introduced the Google+ project, aimed at bringing the
nuance and richness of real-life sharing to the web, and making all of
Google better by including people, their relationships and their interests.
 Almost every project: at Google is a team project,
and teams have to communicate.
 The best way to make communication easy is to put
team members within a few feet of each other. The
result is that virtually everyone at Google shares an
office.
 This way, when a programmer needs to confer with a
colleague, there is immediate access: no telephone
tag, no e-mail delay, no waiting for a reply.
 Of course, there are many conference rooms that
people can use for detailed discussion so that they
don't disturb their office mates.
 Sitting next to a knowledgeable employee was an
incredibly effective educational experience.
 Virtually every person who interviews at
Google talks to at least half-a-dozen
interviewers, drawn from both management
and potential colleagues.
 Everyone's opinion counts, making the hiring
process more fair and pushing standards
higher.
 Yes, it takes longer, but it's worth it.
 If you hire great people and involve them
intensively in the hiring process, you'll get
more great people.
 Feedback is the key to dominate the market.
 One of their not-so-secret weapons is their ideas
mailing list: a companywide suggestion box
where people can post ideas ranging from
parking procedures to the next killer app. The
software allows for everyone to comment on and
rate ideas, permitting the best ideas to
percolate to the top.
 Google continuously and rapidly upgrades their
original project by listening to the customer.
 they strive to achieve harmony with the reality
and thus make improvements in their project.
The best practices that can be adopted in our
engineering college to solve problems are:-
 Innovation and Creativity
 Teamwork
 Fair Admission
 Student Feedback
 Just like Google our college should also encourage innovation
and creativity.
 Instead of providing bookish knowledge, practical knowledge
should be provided. An engineer is not judged by the grades on
his grade sheet, instead by the experience gained by him
during practical work.
 Group projects should be included in the curriculum so that
students learn to apply the knowledge they have gained in the
lectures.
 Just like Google gives their employs the freedom to choose
their projects, our college should give the students freedom to
choose projects their interested to work on.
 Through these projects the students should be encouraged to
think out of the box.
 All technical help should be provided to the students so that
the bright minds are a given a platform to showcase their
talents.
 Just like all the projects of Google are a team
effort, projects in our college should also be a
team project.
 People working on different projects should
interact with each other to gain more
knowledge.
 College should organise debates, speeches ,
group discussions etc. So that student
interact with each other and also improve
their speaking skills.
 An environment of healthy competition should
be built. Students should help each other even if
they are participating in the same competition
and thus competing against each other.
 A person getting into Google has to go through a
number of interviews.
 Similarly the students should be given admission
in our college after taking their interview. The
students should not be judged alone on their
marks. Their knowledge should also be
considered.
 For admission, seats are reserved for sc, st, obc
categories.
 Instead of keeping seats reserved for backward
classes, seats should be reserved for children for
poor families.
 Deserving students should be given admission.
 Feedback of students should be taken in order to find
out that whether there is any problem or no.
 Many students are not comfortable in college hostel
as there is no proper ventilation in the rooms, mess is
unhygienic, no proper security etc.
 At times the students are not comfortable with their
teachers.
 Thus feedback of students should be taken and
proper action should be taken to make the students
comfortable.
 But the feedback should be scrutinized properly by
the college as many times students give wrong
feedback about their teachers due to personal
grudges.
 We learnt about the concepts of best
practices and benchmarking .
 These concepts are essential for a company
to flourish.
 We got to know about the various best
practices adopted by GOOGLE.
 We implemented the best practices of
Google in our college that could improve our
college performance.

  • 2.  Best practice is a method or technique that has consistently shown results superior to those achieved with other means, and that is used as a benchmark.  Benchmarking is the process of comparing one's business processes and performance metrics to the best practices and results of top companies.
  • 3.  Innovation and Creativity  Teamwork  Fair Recruitment  User feedback
  • 4.  Google has focused on encouraging creativity and innovation.  Google engineers can spend up to 20 percent of their time on a project of their choice. They basically want to allow creative people to be creative.  Their creativity is seen through GOOGLE DOODLES.  The Google Doodle is an artistic version of the Google logo. Google Doodles represent events like holidays, anniversaries, or current events.
  • 5. Various innovations of Google are:-  Google acquired Android Inc. to develop its own operating system. Android has helped create more choice and innovation on mobile than ever before.  It collaborated with YouTube for making search results more efficient.  It also innovates on Smartphone under the Google nexus series.  Self driving car has also been developed by Google which is being tested at Googolplex.  On April Fools' Day in 2004, Google launched Gmail. Their approach to email included features like speedy search, huge amounts of storage and threaded messages.  They launched Google Maps and Google Earth in 2005. Today Maps also features live traffic, transit directions and street-level imagery, and Earth lets you explore the ocean and the moon.  In June 2011, they introduced the Google+ project, aimed at bringing the nuance and richness of real-life sharing to the web, and making all of Google better by including people, their relationships and their interests.
  • 6.  Almost every project: at Google is a team project, and teams have to communicate.  The best way to make communication easy is to put team members within a few feet of each other. The result is that virtually everyone at Google shares an office.  This way, when a programmer needs to confer with a colleague, there is immediate access: no telephone tag, no e-mail delay, no waiting for a reply.  Of course, there are many conference rooms that people can use for detailed discussion so that they don't disturb their office mates.  Sitting next to a knowledgeable employee was an incredibly effective educational experience.
  • 7.  Virtually every person who interviews at Google talks to at least half-a-dozen interviewers, drawn from both management and potential colleagues.  Everyone's opinion counts, making the hiring process more fair and pushing standards higher.  Yes, it takes longer, but it's worth it.  If you hire great people and involve them intensively in the hiring process, you'll get more great people.
  • 8.  Feedback is the key to dominate the market.  One of their not-so-secret weapons is their ideas mailing list: a companywide suggestion box where people can post ideas ranging from parking procedures to the next killer app. The software allows for everyone to comment on and rate ideas, permitting the best ideas to percolate to the top.  Google continuously and rapidly upgrades their original project by listening to the customer.  they strive to achieve harmony with the reality and thus make improvements in their project.
  • 9. The best practices that can be adopted in our engineering college to solve problems are:-  Innovation and Creativity  Teamwork  Fair Admission  Student Feedback
  • 10.  Just like Google our college should also encourage innovation and creativity.  Instead of providing bookish knowledge, practical knowledge should be provided. An engineer is not judged by the grades on his grade sheet, instead by the experience gained by him during practical work.  Group projects should be included in the curriculum so that students learn to apply the knowledge they have gained in the lectures.  Just like Google gives their employs the freedom to choose their projects, our college should give the students freedom to choose projects their interested to work on.  Through these projects the students should be encouraged to think out of the box.  All technical help should be provided to the students so that the bright minds are a given a platform to showcase their talents.
  • 11.  Just like all the projects of Google are a team effort, projects in our college should also be a team project.  People working on different projects should interact with each other to gain more knowledge.  College should organise debates, speeches , group discussions etc. So that student interact with each other and also improve their speaking skills.  An environment of healthy competition should be built. Students should help each other even if they are participating in the same competition and thus competing against each other.
  • 12.  A person getting into Google has to go through a number of interviews.  Similarly the students should be given admission in our college after taking their interview. The students should not be judged alone on their marks. Their knowledge should also be considered.  For admission, seats are reserved for sc, st, obc categories.  Instead of keeping seats reserved for backward classes, seats should be reserved for children for poor families.  Deserving students should be given admission.
  • 13.  Feedback of students should be taken in order to find out that whether there is any problem or no.  Many students are not comfortable in college hostel as there is no proper ventilation in the rooms, mess is unhygienic, no proper security etc.  At times the students are not comfortable with their teachers.  Thus feedback of students should be taken and proper action should be taken to make the students comfortable.  But the feedback should be scrutinized properly by the college as many times students give wrong feedback about their teachers due to personal grudges.
  • 14.  We learnt about the concepts of best practices and benchmarking .  These concepts are essential for a company to flourish.  We got to know about the various best practices adopted by GOOGLE.  We implemented the best practices of Google in our college that could improve our college performance.
