SPONSORS PERFORMANCE LOCATIONS
We are pleased to offer a stellar line-up of performances from around the world to mark our ninth season of bringing the best in music,
theater and dance to Kent.
Of the 14 performances that will grace our stages in 2006–2007, half are making their Kent debuts. The other half are some of the most
popular performances in Spotlight Series history, back by overwhelming demand. For this season, we chose artists that are familiar and
artists that are new, artists that are local and artists that are from around the globe. We have endeavored to pick the best of the best, to
both reflect and enrich our community.
Performing arts are a window into various cultures. In addition to entertaining us—making us gasp, laugh, smile, cry and clap—the colorful
costume of a dancer, the bold movement of an acrobat or the sweet lyrics of a song can help us better understand ourselves and others. The
2006–2007 Spotlight Series celebrates diverse artistic traditions from far away places and pays homage to distinctly American art forms.
So, whether you prefer the nostalgic tunes of the 1940’s-style Big Band Broadcast or the South African harmonies of Ladysmith Black
Mambazo, Spotlight Series has something for you. Perhaps you will marvel at the stunning ancient Chinese skills of The Peking Acrobats
or soak up Charlie Musselwhite’s all-American blues. You can tap your toes to Wylie and the Wild West, as they bring the rich tradition of
Western music to life, or get a glimpse of Christmas in paradise from Keola Beamer’s Hawaiian holiday concert.
On behalf of the Kent Arts Commission, I invite you to join us for the 2006–2007 Spotlight Series. Subscribe to one of our prepackaged
series, such as the World Traditions Series or the Spirit of America Series, or create your own unique schedule. No matter what you choose,
I hope you will see some long-time favorites, discover something completely new and be thoroughly entertained by it all.
