1. Evaluation – Target Audience
WHO WOULD BE THE AUDIENCE FOR YOUR MEDIA PRODUCT?
2.
3. Demographic
Demographically my target audience ranges from round early years to the elderly. This is because
the musical theatre has a wide range of shows and genres of music (jazz, pop, hip-hop, indie, rock,
R n B, motown) which relates to many groups of people and also enfuses many different
components together of dance (contempory, jazz, hip-hop, Bollywood, ballroom, Latin, ballet,
modern, line, swing). Singing and acting (miming, comedy) which appeal to many different people
no matter how old they are and what social class they are from.
In addition to the type of music and components that attract this range of audience there are a
variety of shows that suit the different groups, ages and social classes who go to the theatre, for
example early years and families would go to shows like pantomimes, musicals aimed at their age
group, shows based on children TV and Films (Lion King, Aladdin, The Snowman). Other shows like
Les Miserable, Wicked, Mamma Mia, Footloose, Hairspray, Fame, suit the rest of the intended
target audience such as the elderly, working class, couples, teenagers because these shows
combine subject like history, song, dance, even fashion.
4. Psychographics
In regards to psychographics my target audience that cant be classed as one individual
group since as previously stated in demographics, this means in the terms of
psychographics you cant specify my intended target audience to one specific group
(aspirers, succeeders, resigned, explorers, strugglers, reformers) as with the diverse and
wider spectrum that is my target audience they would fall into all different groups.
However their interests would all be musical theatre which would further include an
interest of singing, dancing, acting and sometimes even history, films, books as these
are what most musicals are based on.
Some of the audience may also have an interest in fashion and costumes from musical
theatre and how a show is put together which would mainly interest teenagers, and
anyone that possibly has a career or wanting a career in this sector.
5. Lifestyle Choices
As I have previously stated that target audience ranges from a very young age to the elderly meaning
that they would all have different lifestyle choices.
Early Years (under 6) – Interests would include exploring finding out new things for themselves, playing,
watching films, also interacting with people and also shows that would class as musical theatre
Children (aged 6-12)- Interests would include watching tv, films, playing video games, or handhold
consoles, socialising with friends (nearer the 12 years) and playing, sports
Teenagers (13-17) – Interests would include socialising, attending concerts, festivals, watching tv, films,
listening to music, shopping, video games, sports, smoking
Young Adults (18-25) Interests would include socialising, drinking, attending concerts, festivals, shopping,
music, films, tv, video games, sports, tattoos, smoking, having a job
Adults (26-64) – Interests include socialising, drinking, smoking, shopping, tattoos, video games, music,
family, having a job
Older Generation(65+), interests, socialising, attending bingo, gardening, family, walking, attending
theatre and clubs aimed at their age, possibly having a job
6. Music and film Tastes
My target audience will most likely like films in which the musical theatre shows
are adapted to or from, e.g. Fame, Footloose, Hairspray, Mamma Mia, Dirty
Dancing, Lion King, Rock of Ages as well as having other genres that they may like.
The music that they would most likely have taste in is pop, pop rock, depending
on what musical shows they are interested in however most of soundtrack are of
these genres so this would most likely be their music taste.
7. Shopping Habits
The females of my target shopping habits will be different to the males, they are
more likely to go shopping for a longer amount of time for clothes, make-up,
accessories and also they could possibly buy more, depending on what class they
come from. Their style is dependent on what shops they buy from.
Lower Class – Poundland, Charity Shops, Yours
Middle Class (Working class) – Every Day High Street Shops (M&S, New Look,
Topshop (Topman), Debenhams, etc.
Upper Class (posh people) – Designer Shops (Ralph Lauren, Zara, etc.
The males of the target audience would most likely shop for video games, food,
with clothes the hierarchy would still be the same.
