1) The document outlines the agenda and format for academic interactions between IECP students and Penn State students over 8 weeks.
2) The interactions will take place every other week, with weeks 1,3,5,7 focusing on conversation using discussion prompts, and weeks 2,4,6,8 focusing on language tutoring brought by the students.
3) Details are provided on assignment expectations, including submitting a video summary after each meeting and reflection assignments. Conversation prompts, readings, and exercises are included to guide the interactions.
4. Conversation and Tutoring Partnerships
Goal
• The purpose of the Conversation and Tutoring
Partnerships (CTPs) are to provide IECP students with a
chance to regularly engage in academic communications
with Penn State students. Additionally, the partnerships
provide APLNG 484 students with opportunities to interact
with second language learners and reflect upon concepts
related to language learning, culture, and identity.
5. Format
• Weeks 1,3,5, and 7:
• Format: Conversation (see below topics) for approximately 55
minutes + audio/video recording of group summary for
approximately 3-5 minutes.
• Video recording = IECP and 484 students take turns
summarizing what they learned from the other person and
from the overall experience.
• Weeks 2,4,6 and 8
• Format: APLNG 484 students and IECP students bring
materials for focused practice/tutoring. IECP students should
bring a textbook or activities focused on speaking, listening,
and/or pronunciation.
• Video recording = IECP and 484 students take turns
summarizing what they learned from the other person and
from the overall experience.
