In 2014, Ridgeview Medical Center—already a NetDimensions
client—assumed the operation of Sibley Medical Center and
its four primary care clinics. Sibley Medical Center had its own
Learning Management System (LMS) in place. Its training
programs and LMS needed to merge with Ridgeview’s learning
operations for a consistent staff development experience.
As a result of the affiliation, Ridgeview conducted a thorough
review of both legacy LMSs. It wanted to provide increased
functionality and flexible reporting to meet the requirements
for DNV (Det Norske Veritas Healthcare) Accreditation as well
as various specialty-specific accreditations.
Refining the Selection Process
Ridgeview conducted a comprehensive assessment by comparing
the legacy LMSs against its current vendors’ latest product
offerings as well as other leading solutions. The organization
wanted to partner with a vendor that could provide the unique
content needed to meet DNV requirements and deliver flexible
reporting options.
During the review process, Ridgeview separated mission-critical
functionality from minor features. This step helped to ensure
that it would choose a vendor that could meet the needs of all
employees, help the organization provide a modern learning
experience and position it for successful accreditation.
Key Considerations
Ridgeview identified key evaluation criteria. including:
„„ Decentralized Tracking and Reporting to give
managers at remote facilities the ability to monitor
and track training and learning
„„ Customized Content Control to provide not only
standardized content but Ridgeview- and
DNV-specific content
„„ Quality User Experience to drive user engagement
and active participation in the training offered
„„ Unique User Roles for system access to specific
courses and functionality as well as system monitoring
„„ Flexible Reporting to leverage standardized reports
and create customized reports to meet the varying
needs of all accreditation and compliance partners
„„ Exceptional Customer Support to provide swift
assistance and issue resolution
„„ Data Security to ensure that proprietary resources
and user information is safeguarded
Lastly, Ridgeview considered the impact that switching learning
management system vendors would have and included the role
of change management in the selection process.
The Results
Ridgeview chose to implement NetDimensions Learning across
all of its facilities based on the powerful features available in
the latest version, ability to deliver on key criteria and positive
experience with the NetDimensions team.
After a smooth upgrade, Ridgeview rolled out NetDimensions
Learning to nearly 2,000 users across its organization.
NetDimensions Learning was initially introduced to the staff via
email. The launch was then supported by a series of additional
communications including newsletter articles and department
manager meetings. Since going live, Ridgeview’s IT and Staff
Development teams report a significant reduction in the
number of support calls they receive on how to use the system,
compared to the legacy tools.
However, two of the biggest improvements have been the
flexibility for reporting and email communication to learners
and managers.
Ridgeview Medical Center is an independent, nonprofit,
regional health care system located near Minneapolis,
Minnesota. Ridgeview’s network includes two hospitals,
a free-standing 24/7 emergency and urgent care
facility, plus regional clinics, hospice care, and a
multitude of primary and specialty care programs.

While NetDimensions Learning features dozens of standardized
reports that meet most requirements, Ridgeview Medical
Center’s accreditation and certification process necessitates a
number of custom reports. Managers can quickly and
independently create exactly what is needed with
NetDimensions’ report wizard. In addition to these custom
reports, they can also combine all users into a master report for
a complete view of training and development across the entire
organization.
NetDimensions Learning also features auto-generated
notifications as reports are generated and sent on a
predetermined schedule. This custom configuration and
automated reporting enables better management of staff with
less effort, saving managers a considerable amount of time.
Ridgeview has also reduced “email fatigue” with NetDimensions’
flexible email engine that provides custom communications and
notifications to generate just the right amount of touchpoints
for users on-the-go with limited time to check email.
NetDimensions Learning notifies staff when certifications are
about to expire, if a course needs to be taken and when an
applicable course is available. Customized reminders also alert
users to participate in registered courses. These features are
driven by user preferences rather than a one-size-fits-all email
blast approach.
The end result is a personalized experience that keeps staff
engaged in the learning process and using all the features of
the system.

  • 1. In 2014, Ridgeview Medical Center—already a NetDimensions client—assumed the operation of Sibley Medical Center and its four primary care clinics. Sibley Medical Center had its own Learning Management System (LMS) in place. Its training programs and LMS needed to merge with Ridgeview’s learning operations for a consistent staff development experience. As a result of the affiliation, Ridgeview conducted a thorough review of both legacy LMSs. It wanted to provide increased functionality and flexible reporting to meet the requirements for DNV (Det Norske Veritas Healthcare) Accreditation as well as various specialty-specific accreditations. Refining the Selection Process Ridgeview conducted a comprehensive assessment by comparing the legacy LMSs against its current vendors’ latest product offerings as well as other leading solutions. The organization wanted to partner with a vendor that could provide the unique content needed to meet DNV requirements and deliver flexible reporting options. During the review process, Ridgeview separated mission-critical functionality from minor features. The Results Ridgeview chose to implement NetDimensions Learning across all of its facilities based on the powerful features available in the latest version, ability to deliver on key criteria and positive experience with the NetDimensions team. After a smooth upgrade, Ridgeview rolled out NetDimensions Learning to nearly 2,000 users across its organization. NetDimensions Learning was initially introduced to the staff via email. The launch was then supported by a series of additional communications including newsletter articles and department manager meetings. Since going live, Ridgeview’s IT and Staff Development teams report a significant reduction in the number of support calls they receive on how to use the system, compared to the legacy tools.
