Mr. Khan has over 30 years of comprehensive experience in design and handling of
furnace/fired heaters, industrial fired boilers and related equipment. His experience
ranges from conceptual studies to full detailed design and construction. Mr. Khan has
provided and participated in all types of fired boilers, furnace and fired heaters during
start-up and commissioning process. Mr. Khan has prepared specifications for non-
proprietary heaters, steam utility, CO and Waste Heat Recovery Boilers (WHRB). In
addition, Mr. Khan is familiar with all furnace accessories and its application on various
types of heaters, boilers designs. He participates as working members and chairs
various API sub committees including API STD 560 for General refinery fired heaters,
API STD 535 for burners, API STD 537 for flares system and API RP 537 for utility
industrial fire tube boilers. He has participates HAZOP reviews for heater, fire boilers
and flare systems. He has worked with different burner management supplier for fired
heaters and boilers BMS system for heaters and boilers controls. He has worked with
and on various NOx and CO reduction systems, FD and ID fans, Air preheaters for both
fired heaters and utility fired boilers. Mr. Khan’s experience includes:

Mr. Khan served as the fired equipment specialist where he was responsible for
overseeing fired equipment in the field. He covered the Steam Methane Reformer,
medium and high pressure front fired boilers, HRSG, all general refinery fired heaters
and flares system used in the both plant locations.

Baytown, Texas 2006-2010
As the Fired Equipment Specialist, Mr. Khan was responsible to study and produce
design basis for all types of fired equipment (fired boilers, fired heaters, flares and
HRSG’s) by bringing them in line with the current industry and ExxonMobil’s Best
Practice Standards. His duties included assisting the manufacturing units during their
start-up and commissioning process of all types of Fired Equipment’s at Singapore,
Thailand, and Australian XOM manufacturing complexes. Mr. Khan covered both the
front fired and T-fired 1500 psig fired boilers and CO boilers back end of the FFCU
boilers for Torrance, Beaumont refinery complexes, HRSG, all types of fired heaters
and flare systems used in the manufacturing facility.

As the Lead Fired Heater Engineer, Mr. Khan led the technical design evaluation of a
re-tubing for a 122 MM Btu vacuum, vertical cylindrical feed heaters. All radiant and
convection section A106 GR. B tubes were replaced with A335 P9 tubes. The existing
heater burners were replaced with Ultra Low-NOx burners to meet emission
requirements.

Various Projects, for Total Energy Corporation
Calgary, Canada 2000 - 2003
Mr. Khan served as the lead fired heater engineer on several projects in the Edmonton
Refinery expansion. He prepared and reviewed all requisition packages. Mr. Khan was
also responsible for the technical evaluation of eight heater designs, reviewing of
vendor drawings and coordinated with other disciplines to ensure project needs were
met during various phases of the project, including construction.

Mr. Khan served as the lead fired heater engineer at the Wood River refinery for the
Clean Fuels Project. He worked with the client to increase present heater capacity by
using other heating fluid on the existing 50 MM Btu/hr hydrotreater furnace.

As the Lead Fired Heater Engineer, Mr. Khan was responsible for the design and
preparation of contract packages for six furnaces for the Baytown and Baton Rouge
refineries.
Geismer Olefins Aromatic project, Shell Oil Company
Geismar, Louisiana, 1999 -2000
As the Senior Fired Heater Engineer, Mr. Khan was responsible for the technical
evaluation of three vertical cylindrical fired heaters. He also coordinated technical needs
with other disciplines and assisted construction during the installation of the heater.
Petrozuata Syncrude Project, ConocoPhillips
Lake Charles, Louisiana, 1998-1999
Mr. Khan served as Senior Fired Heater Engineer on the Petrozuata Syncrude Project in
Lake Charles, LA. He was responsible for the design evaluation of a new 157.8 MM
Btu/hr fuel crude heater. Mr. Khan was also responsible for replacing five existing
heater burners with Ultra Low-NOx burners to meet emission requirements.
Phenol 3 Production Project, Shell Oil Company
Deer Park, Texas, 1997-1998
Mr. Khan served as the senior fired heater engineer for the Phenol 3 Project which
included a 475 MM lb. /hr phenol production Phenol 3 project, Deer Park, Texas for
Shell Oil Company included a boiler with a capability to fire hazardous waste liquids.
The boiler was classified as Boiler Incineration Furnace (BIF). This furnace has
destruction and removal efficiency (DRE) of 99.99% for all hazardous waste fuels. In
addition to BIF aspect the boiler, also make a 275,000lb/hr of steam for Phenol 3
project. The BIF boiler for Phenol 3 is a semi field installed boiler. The second piece of
equipment that was part of my Phenol 3 assignment includes a 22,000 SCFM Spin Air
Incinerator (Regenerative Thermal Oxidizer type). He was more involved in the design
aspects and related issues for these two pieces of equipment. This assignment also
included preparing of requisition, vendor-drawing reviews and co-coordinating with
other disciplines and assisting construction

As the Furnace Engineer, Mr. Khan worked on various grass root ammonia steam
reformer projects. Mr. Khan was responsible for design including revamping of steam
reformers and energy balance studies for several ammonia producers. He was also
responsible for critical servicing of refinery heaters, including atmospheric, vacuum and
crude heaters. Mr. Khan supported projects during design and construction phases.

• My assignment on SONARCO (Joint Venture of ARCO and SONERTEC)
Algeria includes requisitioning and purchasing of five 110 feet tall self-
supported elevated flares and one 200 feet tall derrick supported elevated
flare, Algeria LNG gas complex.
• Technical evaluation and requisitioned seven Ethylene Steam Cracker
furnaces and a 400 feet guy; supported elevated flare for Exxon BPOX
700,000 tons per day of ethylene production Project - Houston, Texas.
• CF Industries - Geismar, LA This Field Assignment included re-
calibrating the spring to balance the actual harp combine with full catalyst
load. During this turnaround, hot-steam superheat coil, transition arch
between radiant box and hot leg of the convection section was also
replaced. Final phase of this turnaround included replacing a new radiant
tunnel for proper distribution of flue gas through the radiant box to
convection section.
• Nitrogenmuvek Petfurdo Revamp Project – Hungary This project
consisted of a revamp of an existing 1000 MTPD ammonia plant. I was
also responsible for the reduction of fuel consumption and met summer
and winter steam demand. A saturator coil was added to (101-B) primary
steam reformer. The new saturator coil was located just upstream of the ID
fan to utilize the low-grade steam into primary reformer and thus made it
more viable environmentally.
• Analytical studies with complete heat and material balance of field
conditions for future increase in capacity for Sheritt Gordon United at Fort
Saskatchewan - Alberta, Canada.
• Kirshak Bharati Co-op Limited, Gujarat, India feasibility studies to
increase plant capacity from 1350 MTPD to 1800 MTPD.
• Start-up of 1500 MTPD to 1800 MTPD M.W.kellogg reformer design for
P.T. Pupuk Kujang, Cikampeck, W. Java - M.W. Kellogg – Indonesia.
• Completed front-end engineering design phase for three Liquefied Natural
Gas (LNG) trains for Qatar Liquefied Gas Company Ltd. - State of Qatar.
