2. This teaser trailer includes 8 titles in total which are revealed at different times for different purposes.
Firstly eight titles to be used are quite a lot for a teaser trailer, so this signifies a lone a lot of it must be
due to advertising and promoting. For instance the 3 selected screengrabs above of the titles ‘Based on
the best-selling novel’ and ‘from the director of seven and the social network’ are used to help promote
the film even further due to it’s success. The first screen-grab is demonstrating to the audience that this
film is bound to be good due to it’s previous success as a novel. This also can be used to draw any of
novel-readers/ fans of the book, in to watch the film’s version and in-take of it, which can widen a
potential audience.
In the second and third screengrabs which are separated for empathises on how successful the director
previously was on not only one but two movies; it acts as a advertising platform too. By stating the
director’s previous/famous work in the trailer, is clever for boosting the film’s publicity and helps create
the idiom that this film will be just as successful too. Also this acts as a way of widening the potential
audience by reaching out to gain attention of fans of these films and fans of the director, to urge them
to see this film also.
Also another thing to point out in these titles is that in the bottom left hand and right hand corners,
throughout the whole trailer, is written the title of the film and how it is ‘Only in cinemas’. This again is a
good way of marketing the film so the film’s title is stuck in the viewers mind throughout the trailer and
acts as a way of helping them remember it. The bottom right hand corner is used to convince audience’s
to go see this film in the cinema as it is not available anywhere else, this of course will help boost the
film’s success through the more people that go to the cinema to see it.
3. The title above is simple and short, but yet gives the audience a rough idea of
when the film is coming out. The idea of using two words to hint to the
audience when the film will be revealed is good for trailer conventions of
making sure it has a fast-paced flow to it still. Noticeably all the trailer’s texts
keep there amount to a minimum to avoid boring an audience and to make
sure the audience have enough time to read what’s on display. Also by stating
the film is out ‘this year’, which can be at anytime can build a audience’s
excitement once more as they don’t know exactly when that will be, so it
makes them look forward to being told further information.
4. The three screengrabs above in a way act as one of the film’s unique selling
points, due to the rave and good reviews by critics and the media. Firstly by
using two lots of quotes and a 4 star rating from different media, is a great
way of impressing audience members and make them gain an even further
interest as if the reviews are good, then it must be a good film to watch,
urging them to see it even more. Secondly these reviews act as a way of
gaining the film publicity due to it’s amount of positive responses from critics,
this can perhaps wind up in the press and interviewers wanting to gain a look
into what the rave is about, which helps in terms of selling the film also.
These act as trailer conventions to sell the film, by exaggerating it’s bound-to
success and how links to famous directors/reviews act as proof it’s a good film
for audiences to watch.
5. At the end of all the drama and action displayed on screen, the title is finally
revealed and fades into black to create suspense upon audience members, as
that is all we are getting shown about the film for now. By revealing the title
at the end of the film is a great way of building up excitement to the ending of
where we will get to see what the film is called, but because it is revealed in
the left hand corner from the beginning, this doesn’t have as such the same
effect.
