•Latin word-”persona”__”mask”worn by Greek actors. The effect
and influence left by an individual (with mask) on the audience.
•Personality is a complex blend of a constantly evolving and
changing pattern of one’s unique behaviour, emerged as a
result of one’s interaction with one’s environment and directed
towards some specific ends.
 Type A - people always feel sense of time urgency, are highly
achivement-oriented
exhidit a competitve drive, and are impatient when their work is
floed down for any reason
Type B- people are easy going,do not have urgency for
time, and do not experiance the competetive drive
 Attempt to learn what traits make up personality and how they relate
to actual behavior
 In psychology, trait theory is an approach to the study of human
personality.
 Trait theorists are primarily interested in the measurement of traits,
which can be defined as habitual patterns of behavior, thought, and
emotion.According to this perspective, traits are relatively stable over
time, differ across individuals and influence behavior.
 The Self Theory emphasizes on the set of perceptions an
individual has for himself and the perceptions of the
relationships he has with others and the other aspects of life.
 Self theory As organismic or field theory, empashis the totally
and inter relative of al behaviour

 Self-image means what an individual thinks about himself.
Everybody has certain beliefs about themselves, such as who
or what they are, these beliefs form the self image and
identity of a person
 The ideal-self means, the way an individual would like to be.
It is very much different from the self-image, as it shows the
ideal position perceived by an individual, whereas the self-
image is the reality that an individual perceives. Thus, there
could be a gap between these two.
 The ideal-self-acts as a stimulus to motivate an individual to
undertake those activities that are in compliance with the
characteristics of his ideal self.
 The real-self is what others show you with respect to your
self-image. An individual’s self-image is confirmed when
others responses to him and shares their beliefs or
perception, about what they actually feel about him.
 This is taken as feedback from the environment that helps an
individual to adjusts his self-image accordingly and be in line
with the cues he had received.
 The looking-glass self means, an individual’s perception of
how others are perceiving his qualities or feeling about him.
Simply, it is the perception of other’s perception, i.e.
perceiving what others perceive about yourself and not see
what actually you are.
Brain is one of the most important factors of
personality determinants.
• It is generally believed that the father and the
child adopt almost the same type of brain
stimulation and
the later differences are the result of the
environment in which the child has been grown
up.
Physical features may involve height, color, health
status and beauty.
These factors are involved when interacting with any
other person and thus contribute in the personality
development in many ways.
• A man with a good physical structure and health
generally possess an attractive personality.
A man with poor health, pigmy size and ugly
physical
features develops inferiority complex.
 It plays a very important role as the major determinants and
factors of personality.
• These factors not only affect the physical features of a person,
but the intelligence level, attentiveness, gender, temperament,
various inherited diseases and energy level, all get affected by them
Parents and other family members have strong influence on the
personality
development of child
Parents have more effects on the personality development as
compared
to other member of the family
The Realtionship between the parnets and childrean was higher
then
that between the children and their teacher
 Role of Home: The first and immediate environment.
• Family Morale: Good moral pattern and discord family
pattern.
• Economic Factor
• Role of school
• Role of the teacher
•Internalization of values,ideas,beliefs •Institutionalization:
Religions, faiths and creeds with different religious faiths
,beliefs, prayers and cultural programs.
 The culture in which one lives in, that may involve
traditional practices, norms, customs, procedures, rules
and regulations, precedents and values, all are important
determinants of personality. Moreover, the creed, religion
and believes are also very important factors of personality
determinants.
 Situational Factors Although these factors do not literally
create and shape up an individual’s personality, situational
factors do alter a person’s behavior and response from time
to time.
 The situational factor can be commonly observed when a
person behaves contrastingly and exhibits different traits and
characteristics
FEATURES OF PERSONALITY
1.Personality is something which is unique in each
individual
Personality refers to internal as well as external
qualities, some of which are quite general. But it is
unique to each individual. It is not possible for any
other individual to reproduce or imitate the qualities
of the personality of the individual.
Every individual has certain feeling as well as other permanent
traits and qualities. Personality is mainly composed of the
persistent or permanent qualities that exhibit themselves in
form of social behaviour and attempt to make adjustment
with the environment.
 Personality represents the process of learning. It takes place
in reference to the environment. We do not acquire all the
traits of personality all at once.
 Personality is not an individual quality. It is a result of social-
interaction. In other words, it means that when we come in
contact with other members of the society, we acquire certain
qualities while we exhibit certain others. All these come to
form personality.
 In personality various qualities are not put together. They are,
in fact, integrated into one. This integration is nothing but a
result of organisation which may be different from man to
man. The behaviour of a person directed to one particular
individual may differ from the behaviour of another person.
That is why; we put the condition of suitable environment.
