1. MAJOR TYPES OF RESEARCH
WRITTEN BY MUHAMMAD SHARIF MSCS BULC,PAK.
Re-Search somewhat Re-Means or once more or return to previous state for examine and
analysis.
Research is an organized and systematic way of finding solutions to questions. Questions are the
central and main variables of research because the questions tell the researcher what is being
asked from the variable of environments.
There are many types of Research that can be classified as w.r.t methodology, knowledge, and
problem that is investigated ext...
These types are defined step by step as following.
Basic Research:
Basic research is defined as only the knowledge about things. It enhances human knowledge and
provides fundamental knowledge about the things that are being researched so it is also called
fundamental research. The basic research problem is solved by adding them to applied research
discipline. In Basic research several discipline involved to solve it. Basic research tells how to
thing are involving and how them to change. It is also called pure research. Pure research reports
are executed in human common language.
Basic research doesn’t require and demand the practical and value gained by the research.
Major working is done on the basis of ideas and theories.
Applied Research:
Applied research applied to solve practical real time and real world problems. It does not demand
to increase the knowledge but its demand to increase the improvements in immediate results.
Applied research is the application of Pure and basic research.
Applied research conducted the basis of some experience and practical work.
It uses scientific methodology and knowledge to solve the human problem in real work.
To increase the agriculture crop we use applied approach.
Quantitative Research:
This research is conducted on the base of some practical investigation using quantitative
statistics. It gives us the measured value that can be quantified by the using of some measuring
scales. It uses mathematical expressions to verify the results. It uses the economics and
commerce data for investigating research. So it is also called analytical research. Quantitative
2. research uses mathematical conceptual techniques to quantify the results. It is objective research
that can be deal in number and figures
Qualitative Research:
Qualitative Research provides non quantitative results. Qualitative research read the behavior,
characteristics, and attitude of people and gain the result of what people doing and want to say.
It gets information and results from interviews and metaphors of peoples. It also deals with a
case study and historical knowledge, surveys. This research it difficult to quantify such as belief
and symbols.
It defines the decision making behavior that is not in the amount able. It is subjective in nature
that can measure the behavior and attitude of things. Almost a Huge community of things is
being studied and captured their attitudes to find out the qualitative nature of the things.
Empirical Research:
Empirical Research is research of values by using one’s direct and indirect observation and
experience of peoples to solve the people issues. The researchers can easily find out the
empirical answers by using the empirical evidence data.
Exploratory Research:
Exploratory research is defined as the research that can be conducted by explaining the issue that
is not solved before it. It increase the clarity in previous research. Exploratory research uses
secondary research so that it review the literature that is already published. Exploratory research
aims to develop a hypothesis for formulating the research. Clear investigation is done to do this
type of research. Exploratory search is used why all types of questions (what, why, and how)
arrived.
It also explores the previous results. It may be informal and mistily use secondary research to
emphasize the results. It deals and pretend on the specific situation.
Evaluation Research
3. Evaluation Research deals with the New and current Evaluation in the environment that is
dealing and used by the variable of that environment.
Explanatory Research:
Explanatory research is done by cause-and-effect relationships. What some variable causes a
certain behavior it first check that whether there is cause and effect relationship between these
variables.
Descriptive Research:
Descriptive Research deals with the background knowledge of an event that is being happened.
It deal relationship between the variables in the environments. It describes what is now and what
is being dealt with in the environment.
Descriptive Research only describe the behavior and phenomenon of things. It does not relate to
the research question like what why and how. Descriptive Research minor depend on the type of
research question. It does not require the internal situation of things. It deals only with people
descriptions of a certain thing.
Correlation Research:
Correlation Research deals with the systematic relationship between variables even there is no
cause and effect case.
It creates a correlation between variables and then compare the situation between the happenings.
It can study the variable range w.r.t relation. It does not depend on what the Cause and what does
it effects.
Ethnographic Research
Ethnographical Research Provide depth knowledge about the culture situation that is being
studied. That data is collected by the study of people observation and culture movements. Its
purpose is to find the natural happening in the environment.
Experimental Research:
It is systematic and experimental observation and tested hypotheses to gain the results. It is
mathematical proved research that has mathematical expression to, again and again, provide the
4. proof even the hundred and thousand years ago. It describes what will be after Appling the
experimental search.
Grounded theory research:
GTR deal with the problems in depth and discover the more problems that are being involved in
the environment. There are four stages to Conduct GRT
Four stages:
1. Codes
2. Concepts
3. Categories
4. Theory
Comparative Research
Comparative Research describe the similarities between things in all units environment. It aims
to make comparisons across different units of culture and environments. This comparison can be
done with one to one and with one to all things. It uses secondary data to analyze the results. A
common program is used to look for the difference between Social groups. Comparative
Research use two common factors time and space or period,
