Herts Fest will be a magazine based in the local Hertfordshire area. It will be to inform locals about upcoming events and festivals in the next month, or ones a few months in advance for events where that is needed. There is a wide range of events that take place in Hertfordshire, such as The Slam Duck Festival, Battle proms, Folk by the oak and Classic Ibiza. As well as a wide amount of venues located in the area. So it is safe to say that there is wide amount of music fans and events for them to go to in Hertfordshire. There is no magazine that informs locals on the music events taking place, but Herts fest can be a convenient way for the locals to receive their information.
There isn’t a magazine that informs Hertfordshire locals on upcoming music events. However, there are magazines that could be competition for Herts fests. Hertfordshire life informs locals about areas in Hertfordshire worth visiting, this means the magazines would have a similar target audience. However, it has nothing to do with music events, therefore shouldn’t affect Herts Fests. One magazine is also based in Hertfordshire in Welwyn Hatfield, the purpose is to inform families on local events taking place. This is much more similar to Herts Fests, however, the magazine isn’t for music events, only family events in Hertfordshire. In addition the target audiences for the magazines differ, so it also shouldn’t be too much of competition for Herts Fests. Clash magazine is a music magazine, however it doesn’t focus of music events, its purpose is to entertain and isn’t Hertfordshire based, so it wouldn’t effect Herts Fests. Fest World is focused on music events, like Herts Fests, however, Fest world informs its audience on the biggest festivals all over the world, it’s for a more mainstream audience, while Herts Fests aims for a more niche audience of people in Hertfordshire.
The theme of the magazine will be local music festivals in the Hertfordshire area. It will be published every month to achieve its goal be to inform the audience of upcoming festivals and events in the local area and give information about each, including ratings, lineups, times etc. Everything someone would need to know before going to an event. It would be no more than 20 pages long, each page covering different festivals and events. A standard magazine has a around 32 to 40 pages, due to my target audience being young and in a generations who tend not to read magazines, having this magazine be short and not take up too much of their time to read would be ideal for this audience. As well as this, due to a magazine not being typically consumed by a younger audience anymore they are likely not willing to pay much for it, less pages mean that the company can lower the price which would encourage more people to buy it. The price will be around £1.50.
The target audience for this magazine is 18-26 year old's, mainly people in universities. I plan to sell the magazines on university campuses or around universities to ensure it reaches the audience. People who are too young likely won't have a job, rely on their parents or wouldn't be allowed in to a lot of events due to their age. This means the magazine wouldn't be suitable for them. People older than 26 would likely have lost interest in their party faze they had when they were younger and are now focused on working or starting a family etc. Uni students, on the other hand, will be old enough, have part time jobs (giving them time and money) and will want to go out with friends, festivals are the most popular among young people, and therefore they are the biggest potential audience. Also it will be for those students who actual like festivals and are interested in music.
