3. Our Rules Are:
Respect for God
Respect for ourselves and others
Respect for the world around us
4. Matai students...
Are self-managers - We look after ourselves
and our belongings
Are inquiring learners - We are curious about
the world around us and want to know more
Are confident - We are not afraid to step out
into the world and be a part of it.
These are goals we are aiming for as we go
through our schooling
5. Our teacher is Mrs Cullen-Reid
I am happy to talk to you about how your child is
doing. Please make an appointment with me.
Mrs Engelbrecht is Mrs Cullen-Reid’s Release
Teacher.
6. The start of the day...
We need to be here before the bell so that we
have time to organise ourselves.
When we have class Mass we need to be here
by 8.45!
We have a chart to check to make sure we
are organised
We have to do things for ourselves, but you
can help by reminding us.
7. Reading
We usually have reading groups from Monday to Thursday.
We will usually have something to read to you every night,
including something from our browsing boxes in the weekend.
Sometimes we read the same story over a couple of days to make
sure we really understand it.
It is important that someone listens to me read every night.
They need to ask me questions to see if I understand what I
read.
The person who listens to my reading needs to sign my reading
log.
I must always bring my reading book back to school the next
day.
8. Spelling
This term we are learning and reinforcing the spelling of the
most common words we use.
Later we will be tested and put into spelling groups.
Then we will be given 6 spelling words a fortnight to learn
and be tested on.
You will find our spelling words in our homework books.
Please test us frequently on our spelling words and make
sure we know what they mean and how to use them in a
sentence.
9. Writing...
This term in writing Mrs Cullen-Reid is
teaching us how to set out our work,
including writing the date and using a
ruler.
We are also learning the structures of
writing, including capital letters,
fullstops, how to make a sentence and
express an idea for someone else to read
and understand.
10. Maths...
We will be tested and put into groups for maths
to learn about how to add and subtract numbers.
Ms Engelbrecht will be teaching us about
Geometry this term.
We will have basic facts homework to do from
week four.
Our maths homework is in our homework books.
11. P.E. and Fitness
We have fitness most days. We usually
get to go outside and play organised
games.
On Wednesdays we have P.E. with Ms
Engelbrecht. If we are in Year 3 we should
bring sports shoes. If we are in Year 4 we
need a P.E. uniform which is our school
shirt, blue shorts and sports shoes.
Year 4 students sometimes have sports on
Friday afternoons.
12. Library...
We have library every Wednesday. We
get to take books home.
It’s important that we bring them back
again before they are late otherwise we
could get fined.
